Unfortunately cannot recommend and am in no hurry to come again. Paid just shy of $50 for 6 tacos and an enchilada meal. The soda fountain was also out of half of the options. Our server was a very kind young man and took good care of us, but with the quality of the food and the price, I really wouldn't suggest trying. The fish tacos are fried (and probably frozen from Sysco), the chorizo tacos I ordered were burnt to the point where it wasn't enjoyable to eat. The pastor was honestly really good though. My wife enjoyed the enchiladas, but again, $15 for the plate we got just seemed agressive and inconsiderate of the customers. The restaurant itself was nice enough, not particularly dirty or clean. Very delicious and authentic Mexican food! The al pastor and the shrimp taco are seriously my favorites. They put a lot of meat in the taco for the al pastor although the shrimp taco only had three pieces of shrimp so I couldn't even finish the full taco because there was not enough shrimp in it. The salsa is very delicious as well. I love that they give you a small bag of chips and salsa with your order. Their beans are very good and I always get a side of them. They are very authentic! It makes me sad to give less than five stars, but I've had a few bad experiences lately and I'm a little frustrated. Today at lunch the salsas were pretty much all gone. They didn't even make the jalapeño salsa today! I asked all of the staff (kids) if they were going to make salsa and they all didn't really have an answer for me. Btw, where is the Al pastor? Great location right off I-15! The food was good, and it came out hot. I would recommend going with someone who has been there before, otherwise you might not know how things work right away. You just go up to the register, order your food, then pick a table yourself. They give you a number to put on the table (and your drink cup if you ordered one) and tortilla chips. With the chips, you get empty sauce cups. To the right of the register, there's a serve-your-own salsa station. We had to wait around 30 minutes to get our food. That's not ridiculously long, since everything seemed freshly made. But be prepared for a bit of a wait. With the food, a server brought it to our table, but we had to grab our own utensils. Napkins and straws are by the drink machine, but forks and knives are closer to the salsa station. When you're done with your meal, you put your dishes on top of the trash cans. Overall, this is a fun place to meet for lunch or dinner with some good food! I give four stars only because of the lack of signage they may confuse newcomers. read more

We ordered the Fajita Mix Plate- beef/chicken /shrimp- with four flour tortillas. The serving was plenty for two of us, plus we needed a to-go box. It was served on a sizzling platter. The beans, rice, lettuce and tomatoes came on a separate plate. The beef and chicken slices were large enough that we had to cut them to fit on the small tortillas. There could have been some more of the vegetables. The flavor was good, with a mild-medium spice level, but the vegetables were way overcooked and were limp and almost unrecognizable. The salsa bar offered enough of a variety in heat that most palates could be satisfied. (My wife thought even the mild was too hot.) The small half bags of chips were adequate to fulfill our needs. The horchata was one of the better tasting versions we've tried. There was an extra charge for refills. We got to the restaurant before the rush so we were able to get our food quickly. We were given foam plates for our dinner and get your own stainless cutlery. We noticed some dinners were served on glass plates while others were on foam plates. There's not anything exciting about the ambiance, since it's primarily an inexpensive, sit down, fast food restaurant. read more

Love this spot! It's rare to find a Mexican spot outside of CA that really does it right but this place nails it. Two of my kids live within 5 minutes of it and they loved it immediately and will likely eat there regularly. This is one of those places I wanted to love in a five star way, but I was a little disappointed. First, their service was great! Their crew was kind and accommodating. They hooked me up with two Horchatas when I paid for one. The Horhata was most definitely home made, and outstanding. The team also got 100 percent of the food right in our very large order. That's no easy feat. Unfortunately the flavors fell a little flat for some of our orders. The Chile Verde is very spicy. I love spicy food, like burn your face off spicy, but heat without flavor isn't my favorite. All I got was heat and not a ton of flavor. If you're cooking from scratch sometimes that happens. Heat in peppers varies by season especially during the switch between Salinas and Yuma suppliers, but I still would have liked more flavor. The pork was also exceedingly fatty. I was picking it out of my meal consistently. The fish taco was solid, mostly because they make their sauce from scratch and it is both spicy and flavorful. We tried a variety of other foods including the torta, which was ok, Carne Asada tacos, which were also fatty, and carnitas tacos, which were ok as well. Overall the food was a very middle of the road experience in terms of the food, but a good service experience. The kids meals were very basic, but I had no complaints. read more

I love my dear friends, and the reason I stay friends with many of them is following some simple rules. 1) make friends with people who make you better and occasionally allow you the same privilege. 2) don't let them pick the mexican food restaurant. Well, i broke good ol #2 this week, and went with some AZ friends to a local UTAH mexican food place. I cringed the whole drive over. I voted for another local establishment that is my oasis in the mexican food desert known as Utah , but took one for the team. I figured i could always go home and eat something else. Walking in, you feel like its just another fast casual kind of place. Order at the counter, get your own drinks, they bring you your food on plastic, with plastic utensils, blah blah blah. I would describe the cuisine, as "mexican, general". Meaning, not any particular style or region. They have tacos, chimichangas, quesadillas etc etc. I ordered the Carne Asada plate, since it looked like one of the better options, and my wife went with the old standby shredded beef chimichanga. She did order green and red sauce on the side to try. They give you a small bag of chips when you order, and I must have looked pitiful since he gave me two. The chips were decent. But the Salsas, oh the SALSAS! Really the the first real clue that i was in a decent place to eat was the Salsa Bar. two kinds of "Hot" jalapeno, and a quemado style sauce, a tomatillo green that was medium, and some chunky mild stuff. they also had some lime wedges, and such. The Hot salsas were very tasty. both had a decent flavor profile, not just spicy, and they were pretty warm spice level wise. I would imagine most people who say it was definitely hot. For me, they held my interest, especially the jalapeno, crema style sauce. The tomatillo was also well flavored, if milder. I did not try the mild, but the wife said it was decent. Our dinner arrived, not terribly fast. Place was pretty full, so call it "okay" service level. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the meal for the price. For $11, had a decent piece of charbroiled flank steak (my personal fave for this kind of meal), a good portion of beans and rice, a grilled jalapeno and grilled mexican cebollita-style grilled green onion, and a making me squeal-like-a little-girl-with-a-unicorn surprise: a nice sized piece of grilled Nopales! That's cactus pad for you gringos out there, and yes you eat it and no, it does not have the spines, they are scraped off. They also came with a foil packet with 5, count them, 5 small flour tortillas of good quality. I hate it when a place gives you a plate dinner and shorts you on the tortillas, so it was very appreciated. the steak was chewy and flavorful, like good flank steak should be. tearing a piece off, since there is no way in the world the plastic utensils are handling it, I put it in a tortilla with a piece of jalapeno, onion, and nopales, some squeezed lime juice, and some salsa. HEAVEN! Wife liked her chimi, but it's silly they did not have it come with rice and beans, the couple we were with commented the same. She ate some of mine and liked them. I thought the rice was ok at best, but the beans were good. She and our friend said the green sauce was very spicy, and the red was good. So decent place to eat, but I had to eat mine solely with my fingers the plastic couldn't cut any of it. It's a minor thing, and the food was pretty good. There were four in our party, 3 ordered carne asada burritos and one ordered a chimichanga carne asada burrito and an order of chips and guacamole to share which was good but for nearly $10 it was such small portion a serving for one. The chips were ok just a little stale. Salsa bar had good salsa choices. The portions were let's just my 10 year old was still hungry. Flavor was okay. Too pricey for very small servings. Now housed in a newer location it looks like El Mexiquense has come upon some money. This is not exactly a swanky spot, but compared to their old place, it's much nicer. Gone is the cave of a salsa bar, and instead it's just a normal salsa bar at the end of the building, although they're keeping tight control over the lids. They don't want you walking out of there with any of that stuff, and you have to ask for them. Side note: they have small containers you can ask for and buy containers of their salsa. I've done it. What you lose is a little of the small charm, and it has turned into more of a fast food operation. Their al pastor tacos are still supreme (why does no one else in town serve it with the pineapple??) but it's a hustle operation with a lot of people there all the time. I'm also annoyed by the hours--but that's par for the course in this neck of the woods. Like, an extra half hour would really help out. But I get it, most families around here have eaten and are done by closing time, and I would assume they've run the numbers. Still, each time I've been on a Friday or Saturday it's been right about the time they were closing and it was still packed with people. Tacos al pastor. The carne asada burrito is okay. The salsas are very good, they have a great recipe for almost every one. If you like a salsa with real heat, they can actually provide that and that's become quite uncommon. The food recipes and concepts are not bad at all, I'd day they are above average. Now let's get to the bad. The food consistently is unclean or improperly handled, causing gas diarrhea and other discomfort. This is a symptom of a poorly managed kitchen. It's also a good reason never to come back for fear of something worse happening. It's not surprising when you can see them cooking a huge batch of chicken with only 2-5 guests in the hour we were there. It suggests they are cooking and storing for extended periods which is frankly disgusting. Who knows how long food there is sitting waiting to be reheated. Even worse how long do the ingredients sit in the freezer or fridge?The lack quality of management and care continues into the front of the restaurant. Untrained staff, unprofessional methods, a lack of cleanliness in the dining area. The childrens chairs hidden in a corner near the bathrooms is inconsiderate. I thoroughly enjoy coming here particularly for the tacos. Their lengua tacos are so moist, tender, and full of flavor. My husband loves getting the Alambre plate because it is not only delicious but also Keto if you don't use the tortillas. He feels like he's cheating when he's not at all. The Alambre is made up of meat, green peppers, onions, and covered in cheese. Their salsa station has a bastante of options, but the Mild salsa was more of a medium to me. Perhaps it was just the jalepanos they used that day (that can make a huge difference to the heat level each time they make it). Instead of a healthy serving of beans, they smeared a very small amount of refried beans and the rest was veggies. The veggies were great and nice and hot. My friend's favorite Mexican restaurant so we had to make a stop by. We ordered the al pastor chimichanga and al pastor tacos. The order took about ten to fifteen minutes and had me going back and forth from our table to the salsa bar. Luckily we had chips to munch on while we waited for the order. The meat was flavorful and the salsas from the salsa bar were delicious too. I enjoyed the green jalapeño sauce and the green cucumber salsa the most. The sourness from the limes enhanced the taste of the al pastor. I loved my chimichanga, the sides of guacamole and sour cream on every bite of my chimi tasted superb. Their cane asada is "unique", I'm NOT a fan - it's inedible in my opinion. It has an overwhelming cinnamon flavor that masks whether it's even beef. It looks the exact same as the Al Pastor. The tacos here seemed to be a hit based on previous reviews, so I skipped the pricier options and ordered three tacos - one carnitas, one carne asada, and one fish taco. The tacos didn't blow me away in terms of flavor, but they tasted good and were pretty filling. I think it would have been nice if the fish taco had had smaller pieces of fish rather than just one giant chunk of fish, but overall I was pretty happy with my food. There is a small salsa bar with a couple salsa options that go from mild to medium to hot. The medium salsa was a bit spicier than expected so I stuck with the mild (I know, lame). Overall I think some of the previous reviews hype up the tacos a little more than deserved, but it's a good place to stop if you're in the mood for Mexican food. read more
