We love La Costa! The food is terrific-fajitas are hot and the molcajete is the best around!

I had a Costa Margarita and really enjoyed it. It tasted like traditional margaritas back home. Not sure if non-Mexican natives would like it because is pretty stiff, with big ice cubes and light in the triple sec and sugar. Almost like a limeade with tequila. Yeah, that might not sound good to you. The refried beans and chips are still delicious and free. The porky-tasting beans are great, and the salsa is better than I remember. They now have Victoria beer for $4.50. They had a live half-Mariachi band for Mexican Independence Day. The bar ambiance was enjoyable. I had two ceviche tostadas and they were OK. They lacked flavor and enough lime. They had a lot of food on them, I almost couldn't finish it. My friend had a veggie wet burrito. The waitress was nice to offer tomatillo sauce on her burrito so that it'd be vegan, otherwise everything else has dairy. She really liked the burrito. read more

I go here all the time especially since it's close. My family and friends come here. It's a great place. They give you beans and salsa to dip your chips in before your food comes, can I just tell you not all Mexican restaurants do that? And if they do, they're not all as great as la costas? La costas also gives out coupons in valpak mail, I use it sometimes. But I come here, dine in and I even order to go. I love love love it here and I love their margaritas. My loved ones eat other things, but I always order the same thing. Chimichanga meal hahaha with beans, rice and sour cream, no garnishes hehe... I'm kind of baffled why this place has such a high rating, especially in Burien where we have SO MUCH BETTER Mexican food. The quality of the food is very low, the service is slow, it tastes like Azteca or worse, and there are hardly any low carb options. I asked what was on their taco salad, the other day, which is $10-$12 (I would tell you but they only put one page of each of their menus on their web site) and they said meat and cheese. No pico de gallo, no guac, no sour cream, no olives, nothing extra. So it's $12 for lettuce meat and cheese. It's like they're not even trying. I feel like this restaurant lost its passion for its own cuisine. Mexican food is some of my favorite food in the known universe, and every dish here feels like they're phoning it in. The only time I end up here is when I'm going with a large group that wants margaritas and Mexican in the same place, which limits our options in Burien. My son loves looking at all the Mexican artwork in this place like the paper mache parrots, etc. I hope they can reinvent their menu and increase the quality of their food because I would love to go to this place more but I'm tired of always being disappointed by everything I order: the mole, the lamb, the veggie burrito, they're all mediocre at best. I've been up and down the west coast, from Mazatlan ro Cabo San Lucas through Cali and Oregon...eaten at all kinds of good mexican places from the cool corner taco stands to fancy restaurants. La Costa is the best, hands down. Never had a bad experience here or a bad dish. FOOD IS AMAZING, PORTIONS ARE HUGE, SERVICE IS BEST IN THE INDUSTRY, SUPER FRIENDLY AND FAST!!! I have to admit, I'm surprised how good the reviews are for this place. I've heard about it for awhile, but could never seem to find it while in Burien. Finally found it tucked back in a strip mall and was excited for something new. When entering, the place was busy (a good sign) and it looked like all other cute Mexican restaurants - murals, the outdoors inside decor, etc. The staff was nice and sat us right away, but honestly; that was the best part of the evening. We were not given a menu or even acknowledged even though there were staff members all over (including a few sitting around, talking). We finally get menus and eventually order. My margarita was a great price for the size (I LOVE margaritas!) but the flavor was "meh" (I didn't get the least expensive one, either). My food was swimming in a nasty cream sauce, but I quickly realized that my spinach tamale needed it, as it was dry as could be. No ones food was very good and I'm all for down-and-dirty Mexican food - but this was just not good. Basically, I say "don't waste your time" going to La Costa. I'm sorry La Costa. I used to be taken in by your free beans with the salsa but the shine is off the rose for me. For about ten years I have been flying up to Seattle and taking my bro out for dinner the first day I arrived but either my taste buds have grown or I can no longer be taken in by the glitz of free refried beans with my chips and salsa. It worked for a long time but when I asked about their tacos and the crispy shells I had to rethink my years of La Costa fandom. The tacos came in what I could only describe as the 59 cents Taco Bell taco shell. Plus our food showed up within 200 seconds of our order. How much love can you get into the food in 3 minutes? My response is not enough. Next visit up here I will need to check out a place with a traditional Mexican name like "Archie's Mexican food" in Normandy Park. It's more "Americanized" Mexican food (read: Azteca), but I don't have a problem with this as much as others do (after all we are in America). Burien has lots of great Mexican food, but I think La Costa fills an important niche. Many of our Mexican joints are taquerias which can be off-putting or intimidating to some, unfortunately (all Mexican food in Burien is worth trying). La Costa is the Goldilocks of Burien Mexican food - not too ethnic, not too Americanized... for many, La Costa is just right. Besides, Hispanic people eat there. And, how do we know whether ethnic fare is legit? Let's say it together, now: Ethnic people eat there. It's not Chipotle (nothing against Chipotle). You will not receive service from a blonde high school student. No, these servers are friendly, warm, English-speaking Hispanics (although they'll speak as much Spanish as they can get away with if you encourage them) with a sense of humor. My husband and I went there for the first time since having our first-born and, when Hilda came by to greet the baby and the baby cried, Hilda turned to me and said very matter-of-factly (but with a smile), "You need to get out more". Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. These people are REAL. A restaurant is about more than food, and La Costa's got it. For those who want something more traditional but aren't quite yet comfortable with a taqueria, La Costa's the restaurant for you. It's like the shallow end of traditional Mexican food. Plus, I've never been to a taqueria that boasts a mariachi band. Oh, and I highly recommend their Pollo Fundido. It's a delicious exercise in hedonism. read more

I used to love this place. Still one of the best mexican places to eat in the burien white center area. But after the way myself and my group were treated tonight I wont be going back. Our waitress was amazing. However, after we had all closed our Bill's some highlighted hispanic woman comes to tell us to keep it down. Understandable. We were in the dining area and we were loud and having adult conversation. We told her that is fine asked if there was seating in the bar. She leaves. Comes back and proceeds to tell us yes there is then once again reprimands us for being too loud and our adult conversation. I told her she did not need to tell us again and we were already going to move to the bar as she had asked. She proceeded to get hostile with me and told me she wouldnt be serving me anymore. I was never rude or disrespectful towards her. I simply told her she did not need to explain why she was asking us to move to the adult area for the third time as if she was our mother. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional on her part. We were very accommodating and willing to move from the dining to the bar since other patrons were feeling uncomfortable. She did not need to be a rude bitch about it and repeat herself after we already agreed to move. read more

I honestly think their food is cool. But I want to talk about a couple recent experiences I had at this restaurant. My friend and I get seated and literally no one comes to check on us or take our order for a WHOLE 30 mins. I understand it can get pretty busy during dinner time, but 30 mins is absurd. I was already in a pretty irritated mood when the waiter came around to the table (to check in, he didn't even take our order wtf) Not to mention as soon as this white couple sat at the table next to us they got their drinks and food order before my friend and I. I was so baffled I literally laughed looking directly at all of them.. I honestly couldn't stay quiet. I felt disrespected. It's sad cause other minority's and really racist to other minority's. I got up and left. I didn't make a scene. I will def tell everyone I know not to come here. I wouldn't want anyone else feeling disrespectful. read more

This place really deserves hugs and kisses and tons of love. It is my favorite Mexican restaurant and I've officially been south (Texas & Mexico) so I've got some honest to goodness comparisons to put against this place, yet none of them rival my preference for La Costa. I officially live in Steilacoom which is far, far away from my Seattle stomping grounds. It makes me sad to live so far away but La Costa is the kind of place you go out of your way for. A few nights ago, my boyfriend and I came here on a week night at 8p. We had tried to brainstorm some other ideas for dinner but once I mentioned La Costa, we just couldn't get the craving our of our head. I try something new here once in a while because I trust this place and have never had a bad experience. I tried the chimichanga with chicken and one with beef. I preferred the chicken and am getting a hankering for it now that I'm starting to talk about it. It had a white sauce in it that was sweet and the tortilla was the perfect texture between crispy and flaky on the outside and soft within. The rice is always good!! I wish I could make it like this at home. Chips are always fresh and beans served with the chips prior to your meal are always hot. Not to mention, the salsa has the perfect heat for me (who likes, nay LOVES spice) yet tamed enough for the sensitive type. La Costa is pretty good. I have only been here a few times and the food has been pretty decent both times but nothing to rave about. I am hoping I will have an outstanding experience there one day. But the flavor isn't amazing. They are usually very busy and this might be due to the live mariachi band they feature. Its a good place to drink and share something because the portions are huge. Food was good, not great. I ordered shredded beef, got chicken but it was still good so I ate it and didn't complain. It's a Friday night and the place is packed so I figure that's a big factor. This Mexican Restaurant is a Burien gem that never fails to satisfy! We order take out fairly often from this restaurant, and as a result, we are never left hungry afterwards. For 2 adults and one child (we all share with the toddler), we rarely spend more than $30. And the food is always delicious! The children's menu offers a variety of options including, mexican pizza, enchiladas, and burritos - as well as options for those little ones who are timid of trying new things, such as cheeseburgers. All kid's meals come complete with rice and beans, and are largely portioned; my 7yr old with a large appetite rarely is able to finish her meal and - man, that girl can eat!! As for the adult options, my husband is never left unimpressed by his monstrously sized Beef Burrito Costenos, which is filled to the brim with things like beef, peppers, onions, and topped with burrito sauce, deliciously crisp lettuce shreds, tomatoes, crumbled mexican cheese, and a generous side of sour cream. I, myself, tend to gravitate to my own personal favorite - the Burrito Manadero. It is stuffed with mexican rice, beans, and a Chile Rellano; also topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and crumbled cheese. It is absolutely devine, and also quite a large burrito. When it comes to dining in, this place also never misses a beat. The atmosphere is lively, the decor is fun, and there is really nothing better than friendly servers quick to assist you with an endless amount of chips, beans, and salsa - prior to delivering steaming hot plates of deliciousness to your table! Also highly appreciated, is that they ALWAYS make sure to inform you as to whether your plate will be hot--which is a MUST when eating out with small children (the kid's plates are also never as hot as the adult's, which is amazing as well)! In additon to a delicious meal, and great service, is their amazing drinks. A couple favorites are their Margaritas (I find peach the best), the Cadillac, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Daiquiri - all are wonderful, and definitely worth their prices. I think the last time we ate in, with 3 adults and 1 1/2 kids (baby was too little to eat more than an avacado and beans - which the graciously provided @ no cost), the cost for food, 6 alcoholic beverages, and a soda, was still only about $100, which is a deal that can be close to impossible to find at any of the other local dinner establishments. Now, in regards to the one missing star (I really wish I had the option of giving an additional half star)...they only complaints I have are as follows: - The quality of the "To-Go" containers that the burritos come in. They are rather flimsy, and the tops tend to pop off a bit too easily - increasing the possibility of losing food to a spill; a situation of which we came dangerously close to last night, and has happened more than once in the past. - The lack of marking differences in meat when 2 of the same burrito orders are made. A example of this, being last night, when 2 Burritos Costenos were ordered, 1 beef, and 1 chicken. When I inquired as to which burrioto was which, I was told to " just peak inside"...not a huge deal, but when I did, the tops to the containers would not secure properly after, causing me to nearly spill all of my dad's food; a frustration which could easily be avoided by simply marking the lid with a "B" or "C". - Lastly, I would appreciate it if their online menue could be edited to inform customers that all burritos come with rice and beans - EXCEPT the Burrito Manadero. I order this regardless, but do remember being frustrated the first couple of times we ordered take out, and thinking that I was supposed to get something that was not included. Totally understandable that something stuffed with both items would not be included on the side, but it would be nice to have that knowledge prior to ordering, for those who look forward to those sides. Despite those very minor complaints, La Costa is a fantastic eatery for any-and-all diners. Especially, those looking to find somewhere that they can have both mouthwatering food, and great service, for a very humble price! read more

We've had lunch at La Costa twice and both times it was a delight! You have to try the chicken chilaquiles and the tamal espinaca (spinach tamale). We also tried the cheese & onion enchilada. All came with rice and beans (your choice of refried or ranchero). But to begin with, the chips were hot and not greasy or salty, the salsas were bean and red chili, both delicious. The enchiladas are made with thick, homemade fresh corn tortillas and the sauce is wonderful. The spinach tamale is covered in a delicious white sauce that is unbeatable. Lunch for two was under $20! We always take the leftovers home and enjoy the experience again! Highly recommended for some wonderful, almost authentic Mexican food. read more

With a wide selection of mexican food places in Washington you would think it would be easy to find good food....Ummm...wrong! I thought I was doomed to have mediocre as long as I lived here until I tried La Costa! They are easily the best around and my place of choice anytime I'm craving mexican food. They have a great friendly staff, the service is consistent because they have had most of their staff for years. When your seated you receive chips, salsa and bean dip to snack on. I usually start with ordering a margarita, its the size of a fish bowl and they are generous with the liquor! They have a happy hour that's worth looking into. All their food is great but my favorite is the Carne Asada, It comes out on a huge plate and its guarenteed to fill your stomach. I would recommend La Costa to everybody!! read more
