I can't believe I'm just visiting this place!! LOVE good Colombian food and this one hits it right…read moreon the nail (is that even a phrase)? Anyway, came here on a weekday afternoon and wasn't busy at all- that's not to say that the food/bakery wasn't good. It was AMAZING. I got the lunch special which was chicken soup with breaded filet, salad and rice for $12.99. WHAT! And that portion was BIG as you can see from the pictures. Our server was attentive and got us whatever we needed almost right away! My breaded filet came out delicious. Perfect amount of crispy where it's not overdone and it wasn't drenched in any sauce that made the filet soggy. The house salad was simple yet flavorful and that chicken noodle soup was SO hearty that I wanted to go in the kitchen and scoop myself more. The place is big and bright and clean. Bakery on one side of the restaurant for quick take out and restaurant to the right. There's street parking but there's also parking in the back where the giant farmer market is, but it can be a busy lot. I came back here again with my husband another day and had another lunch special which was grilled chicken with mushroom sauce and my husband had a 16oz churrasco, all cooked to perfection. We got some bakery goods to go and we can't wait to have them later. Highly recommend this place!!

Be prepared to wait 30 minutes at least before they bring out your food it doesn't matter how empty or how packed the place is. It's gonna take them at least 30 to 45 minutes just to get your food out and then when you do get your food and you had a bite of it, the waiter will come yell at u in Spanish and ask u what you're eating mind you they brought the food out if I could give it zero stars honestly I would. Oh they also count the pink sauce The lady said it's one sauce per empanada pink sauce is literally just ketchup and mayo the only reason why this place is still running is probably because of the school that's around the corner everybody seems to go for just empanadas since everything else takes them forever to bring out

They definitely shine even more with a little hot sauce on the side. Easy 8/10. The highlight of the meal was the steak tostones. The steak was juicy and tender, the guacamole added a fresh touch, and the tostones were perfectly crispy. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more on the plate because they disappeared fast. 8.5/10. For my entrée, I had the grilled chicken topped with mushroom sauce. It was good and cooked well, but I felt it could have used a little more seasoning and heat to really make it pop. 7.5/10. Beyond the food, the ambiance was fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful, comfortable, and has a welcoming vibe that makes you want to sit back and enjoy your meal. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

We ordered the mini tipica (grilled steak, pork rind, rice, beans, fried egg, sweet plantain and avocado, chorizo) and it was fair; the steak was too chewy but everything else was fine. It didn't feel like an $18 meal though and definitely have had better. Seems like a pretty casual atmosphere inside. There's an additional credit card charge so pay cash to save that 3%.

A Concerned Review of Pollos Mario…read more For years, my spouse and I have been loyal customers of Pollos Mario in Hackensack, NJ. We have enjoyed many meals here, from breakfast to lunch and dinner, supporting this establishment through economic ups and downs, a pandemic, and an influx of competition on Main Street. As one of the original Colombian restaurants in Hackensack, we have always hoped for the best for them, but recent experiences have left us concerned. While the food remains fresh and flavorful, Pollos Mario is no longer the only player in the game. With eight Colombian restaurants now within walking distance, the landscape has changed significantly. Recently, we found ourselves paying $32 for breakfast, which feels exorbitant. Reflecting on our past visits, it's evident that the portion sizes have shrunk considerably since pre-pandemic times. The arepa con queso, which used to cover the plate, now barely touches the edges. Both my spouse and I ordered Huevos Revueltos, priced at $13.90 each, which included scrambled eggs, a homemade potato, and corn cake with cheese. My spouse enjoyed a hot chocolate or coffee with their meal, while I was charged separately for my Aguapanela con Limón, a sugarcane lime drink that, upon receiving the bill, we discovered was not included with the breakfast and added an unexpected $5 charge for a tiny glass. This feels disproportionate for what is essentially a simple beverage. I understand that economic uncertainty is impacting many businesses, and restaurants need to find ways to stay afloat. However, the experience cannot come at the cost of customer satisfaction. It's disheartening that we now visit Pollos Mario only once or twice a month, down from two or three times a week. Price increases, smaller portions, and additional charges are not conducive to fostering loyalty among customers. I hope the owners take this feedback into consideration. We all want to see Pollos Mario thrive, but it's important to create an enjoyable experience without pricing customers out. Very pretty restaurant, with lots of colors and decorations inside. I was surprised to see their gigantic menu that has so many different kinds of items including burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, arepas, papas, ensaladas, patacons, antojos, bakery, desserts and juices. I order couple of beef empanadas and flan to go. The lady packed up my items right away, super quick service. Beef empanadas were filled with beef and potatoes, with delicious green and spicy mayo sauce on the side. I was blown away by the flan. Such creamy taste yet it was dense. Like other flans it wasn't over baked, so it still had light yellow color instead of dark brown on top. My first visit was great. I am going to stop by again to try the other items in the menu.
