    Chips and pico

We had dinner here on a Friday night. The restaurant is located outdoors which was perfect on a nice February evening. My wife ordered a glass of wine that was filled to the top of the glass. They brought chips and pico as we waited. I ordered the shrimp with tequila sauce and my wife the mushroom cream shrimp. Both plates came relatively quickly. My shrimp was delicious. The dish came with rice and vegetables. The sauce with the rice was good. My wife enjoyed her dish also. Her sauce had a nice wine taste. Our service was top notch and we enjoyed our dining experience.

Soooo maybe you don't want to eat here. This is the quintessential tourist trap. We came here because it was highly rated, looked pretty cool, and was right across from the beach we were at. We were very disappointed. I ordered a Pina colada, shrimp cocktail and fish tacos. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were not deveined. The fish in the tacos were just cut up fish sticks, and the drink was tiny! And all of this was very overpriced. Was paid around $40USD. If you're looking for the most convenient location, this is it. But if you actually want decent food, walk a little further out.

A great spot in the tiny town of Akumal. Great fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Servers are really helpful with ordering. I recommend getting the sauces on the side. The best sauce is ajillo (fried chopped garlic). The garlic butter was strangely sweet, like bubble gum. Best recommendation is to get the seafood platter for one or two!!!

Great place that we'll probably make a point to stop by several times during our time in Akumal this year. Hadn't come here before as the name "the Fisherman's Cave" sounded a bit cheesy but we have it a shot fortunately. Everyone in the party was quite happy with their meal including my 11 year old son. Seafood is quite fresh and the service was VERY attentive.

Do not believe the false reviews, the food here was outstanding! We have traveled the world and seen many tropical places. The food here is not the most amazing, but for the cost, you get good quality 7/10. We paid for fresh fish caught that day and fresh mini lobsters, It was fire! Go here if you don't want to over pay for fresh seafood

We enjoyed the fish filet on butter, the ceviche and shrimp cocktail. Atmosphere is good and the server was quick and focused. I recommend

Where do I start with my beloved La Cueva del Pescador?! One of my favorite restaurants of all time. Since I was 9 years old I have been coming here to Akumal for family vacation. La Cueva del Pescador was the spot for mixed ceviche & bloody marys for a mid day snack & fresh seafood dinner! I remember when they had sand for floors and a jukebox inside in the corner. The freshest seafood in Akumal hands down. Say HI to Carlos, Pedro, Gordo, Ali, & the LCDP family, they are the BEST! I have been fishing with them over the years and caught many of my own fish; they cook it up however you like, for free! I remember being 13 years old and catching my first barracuda and bringing it into the restaurant by the fish's eyeballs, this barracuda was almost as tall as I was. They cooked it up three ways for us. There are pictures all over the walls inside of fishing trips right here in Akumal bay from many years ago. So many memories, I cannot name them all BUT some of the best times & dinners I have ever had in my life. Its the best place to get stuck in a rainstorm under the palapa with lush greenery everywhere. The BEST MARGARITAS, CEVICHE, LOBSTERS, FISH (anyway you like it) and oh my goodness the fresh KING CRAB I had was just caught, it was one of the best boiled whole crab I have ever had, no joke! La Cueva del Pescador is a must visit, you will not be disappointed.

    Starting off lunch....

The best food I've had in Tulum two years in a row! Simply amazing!…read more Wow - I thought maybe I just remembered last year through rose-colored glasses - no, this place is magnificent. First, the vibe is basically perfect. Feels exotic, is clean, the staff is fun, and the live music is the finishing touch. Second, without a doubt the best food we had in Tulum during our week there this year, and my week there last year. House Salad - I never knew I needed goat cheese ice cream on a salad but I'm telling you it was AMAZING! My girlfriend had the Octopus in marinade. She gets the Octopus everywhere we go. It was very tasty and not overcooked like is often the case. I had the Catch of the Day, Sea Bass. I have the fish of the day everywhere I go (live in St Petersburg, Florida, so I'm a seafood junky). It was, again, like last year the best fish dinner entree I had in Tulum. That's between about 12 different places I've eaten at in Tulum spanning the poshest hotel zone restaurants to the most reviewed and highly rated places in Centro in town. It was mouth-wateringly good and flawlessly prepared. I highly suggest trying the Mexican Tea cocktail - a refreshing, but not overly sweet, well-balanced drink that I loved and my girlfriend switched to despite it not being anything like what she would normally order. Last - I worked in restaurants starting at 15 through my late 20's including the most upscale place in the entire city. I got good enough to find gigs helping train staff during new openings. The service we received was remarkable, yet causal and fun. Commendable and appreciated.

They now have a beautiful space on the west side of the the highway about half way from Akumal to Tulum. The restaurant is clean and open. They a a nice garden area courtyard as well. The staff is attentive and efficient. Virginia the hostess was absolutely amazing and friendly. Her family has owned the business for decades. Our waiter was Alfredo who was excellent. All the food was well prepared and presented nicely. Everything we had was delicious. It's definitely aimed a bit more for the North American palette but this does not mean it wasn't really good because it was. Cocktails were made with fresh fruit juices and were top notch. I highly recommend Oscar & Lalo to anyone who is staying in the area or passing by to or from Tulum.
