Fast and casual yet still oh so tasty and good! Loved the mustard habanero aguachiles! Opted for a half portion of the fish and it was enough to share to get a taste. The heat is real! Complemented the spice with a seafood soup that hit the spot. Affordable and deliciously fresh seafood right off of 5th!

I wanted to like this place so badly. But holy shit. We waited an hour for 3 tacos. I think if we got the tacos right away of course my experience would've been different and may e I woulda said the tacos were good. But for an hour wait it wasn't worth it at all. What sucked was service was a mixed bag. I recommend going before dinner time to ensure you don't have the same experience as us. It was painful to see people seated after us leaving before us. :,(

The service is great, the food is good, not my favorite place, but they have a lot of locations which is convenient. I don't recommend the mojitos. Shrimp tacos were really good.

Such a delicious restaurant. Fresh seafood and very unique salsas. Everything we ate was amazing . The peanut salsa / chili oil is bomb . Ambient is great and staff is friendly and very nice. Service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Cool little seafood restaurant near 5 ave on your way to the water. Our experience was good here, but not great. Ambiance/Service: The service is very nice and friendly. The place is nice and simple with some tv's that were playing a soccer game, simple tables, and a backyard which overlooks a hotel and pool (which looked a little rundown). Food/Drinks: We just had beer here, so we couldn't really speak to the drinks, but they were nice and cold and exactly what we wanted. As far as the food, it was good, but nothing great. We had the fried fish dish (and decided to order some french fries along with it for a little fish and chips) along with the grilled octopus. Again, both dishes were good, but just nothing special.. The fries were pretty bland with no seasoning at all, the fish was cooked nice and was very juicy, and the octopus was grilled nicely, but the glaze (their special sauce) was a little too much and tasted almost like franks red hot sauce, which was a little bit of a turnoff, and I love octopus. Was really hoping to like this place, but it was only good vs great. It is a nice little bar and would say its ok to go since it is better than other places right around here, but there are better places in Playa that does have better.

Solid all-around seafood spot. Love the array of sauces the tacos come with! Ceviche was also great.

Ordered mix ceviche with green sauce. Spicy and delicious. The waiter was nice to mention that shrimps are raw in this dish. The complementary sauces are bomb, and compliments the dish very well. The other thing I ordered is the battered fish taco, and it was good as well. Prices are not the cheapest but again it's in Playa next to the most touristy street. Disclaimer: If you want something simple and authentic then it's not for you. Said that the food is definitely worth a try.

Pulpo picante (257 pesos) spicy, but overpriced AF

Sea Una Estrella Sábado (OSS) de Playa del Carmen, and the start of my reviews during my trip to Mexico. I saw positive reviews of Aguachiles, but I didn't know the waiters were desperate for tips. I'll stick to what I ordered. The coctel mixto (181 pesos @ 17.75 exch rate) was pretty good. It was packed full of fresh seafood. The only downside was the price. It costs as much as the U.S.: 4 Stars. Secondarily, the octopus (257 pesos) was spicy as advertised. It was also very tender. The only downside was the price: 4 Stars. At first the service was OK. I think our waiter's name was Ilyvius (working Fri, 6/23/17 @ 7:30 in the evening). However, he brought out the octopus first, when I ordered it for my dinner. The coctel came second. The ribeye came third, the rice fourth, and the fish last. Aurite, the spacing of the dishes is forgivable, and is mainly on the kitchen. What is not forgivable is Ilyvius trying to cheat me on the tip. I told him to include the 10% tip in the bill. I was told that tipping is optional in Mexico, and that 10% is OK. However, when the bill came, the tip was 13% or $2 higher vs what I told the waiter. Diez por ciento (10%), sounds nothing like ciento sesenta (160), so it could not have been he didn't understand my Spanish. Then he tried to argue w/ me until I insisted that I told him 10%. He finally agreed to give me the difference in cash. Nonetheless, when he returned, he gave me 6 pesos less vs what he owed me. Now 6 pesos isn't much, nor is $2, but its the principal of the matter. I told him 10%, and he tries to snake 13%. Then he gives me 6 pesos less than he should?!?!?!?!?! Avoid this crooked place like the plague!!!!! The food is overpriced, and they try to cheat you on your bill.

Viva La Mexican Tacos ! Just how good are tacos from LOS AGUACHILES ? To answer that question in mathematical terms: 4 meals in my less than 5 days visiting Play Del Carmen (and that's not even counting the 1st visit we made to the other location (just north of this location). I first visited the other location which was just within walking distance but far enough from my condo that I hailed a taxi for the ride back. That was my first meal arriving in Playa Del Carmen and it was spectacular; a no-brainer in planning a return visit in the next few days so how rewarding to learn that a 2nd location is 1 block from my place (literally a 5 minute walk). WELCOME: The place is an open-air place with a tiki type of roof, set over brick pavers with a variety of counters/store front cases and refrigerators and colorful signage and knick-knacks hanging here and there.... the tables are solid wood with flimsy, plastic chairs... it may sound overly busy and it is but it's a very comfortable setting and the vibe is exactly what Playa Del Carmen is expected to be (Chilled). On all our visits, the place was busy but they get the food out quick and keep those drinks filled. I wouldn't say any of our servers (4 visits) were all that friendly but none were unfriendly/rude. The manager was always walking around keeping things efficient and he was quite friendly. FIRST VISIT: Our trip was only scheduled for 5 nights so our plan was to be sure to come here at least once more (counting the north location as already knowing we'd like the food), but lunchtime the very next day had us craving for more.... so here we are (1st full day in Playa Del Carmen and already considering ourselves repeat customers). The menu is a bit overwhelming with numerous options for taco choices alone... but they also have tostadas, ceviches and more. Since it was the tacos I craved (a craving that seems to last 365 days per year; maybe more), I figure lets talk about the tacos.... BY FAR, my favorite was the Cilantro Shrimps Taco... shrimp covered with a cilantro sauce, radicchio, pickled red onion and some light greens. I've managed to double order this one; it was just THAT good ! Also managed to try their Breaded Shrimp Taco, Mixed Ceviche Tostada, Scallop Taco and a Popeye Shrimp Taco.... all were very good SECOND VISIT: We woke very early and spent hours in a shuttle van traveling to Coba (Mayan Ruins) and it was hot and we walked/climbed more than expected... on the ride back we were VERY HUNGRY and headed straight to Los Aguachiles upon arrival to Playa Del Carmen desiring ice cold beer and tacos.... We shared a variety of tacos (Steamed Fish, Grilled Shrimp, Smoked Tuna and a Cilantro Shrimps Taco)... and again, all was excellent. We also ordered a couple tostadas (boiled octopus and shrimp ceviche). THIRD VISIT: First time coming for dinner.... in addition to the variety of more tostadas and tacos, we ordered their Suntanned Octopus. A whole octopus marinated in their special sauce and cooked on a grill. The ends of the tentacles were a bit scorched and had a crackling texture (Marisol's favorite parts) and the rest of the tentacles were firm and cooked well... all in all, it was delicious. Also, tried to fulfill that sweet tooth but instead of the Sweet Tooth Brownie, we took our chances on a Corn Cake with vanilla ice cream... I do recommend it ! LAST VISIT: With only 45 minutes to kill before our shuttle van was expected to return us to the airport, we decided to grab one last round of tacos... I said farewell to Playa Del Carmen with a Cilantro Shrimps Taco in my hand !

I guess they weren't prepared for it to be this busy on a Wednesday night. The food was all really good, except for the fish. It was grilled well but tasted a bit dry. Only the top of the fish that was covered in sauce had flavor but it didn't seep through to the bottom of the fish. I recommend getting the Seafood Ceviche because they make it with coconut milk, which was different from all the other ceviches we had on our trip. Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
