Stopped by La Dilla Mexican Grill recently and was pleasantly surprised. The portions are generous and everything tasted fresh. I ordered a burrito plate with rice and beans, and it was easily enough for two meals. The meat was well-seasoned and tender, the rice had good flavor (not bland like a lot of places), and the beans tasted homemade. The chips and salsa were solid, and the salsa had a nice kick without being overpowering. Service was friendly and quick, and the staff made sure everything came out right. The place itself is casual and clean, nothing fancy but comfortable. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the wait was a little longer than expected during a busy time, but the food made up for it. As soon as we walked in the door we were seated. Chips and salsa were brought out right away. We were also offered guacamole, so of course we said yes. The food was delicious and with very generous portions. (Couldn't finish and needed take home containers). Dessert was awesome too! Our server Maria was so very nice and attentive. Look, I love Mexican food. It's got the key food groups of meat, cheese, and tortilla chips. What more could anyone actually ask for? La Dilla does a fantastic job of providing all of these things. The food is great, the service was great, and it has a spacious decorated interior as well as outdoor seating. They also offer some really unique meals, such as the pineapple fajitas that are served in a pineapple. I don't even like pineapple but I have to admit that it's a cool dish. Don't listen to all the negative reviews. I notice most people who review are posting their negative experiences. Today - I got the steak burrito dinner. It was delicious! It had a lot of delicious steak and the flavor was perfection. I couldn't eat the whole thing it was THAT filling. Their chips? Excellent! This place gives you the best bang for your buck and it taste sooooo gooooodddd! I got the big boy burrito w steak and they load it with everything even avocado slices and w the suizo cheese style on top omg so delish and soooo big and filling and not to mention the blessing sized beans and rice w it in the meal and the chips and salsa were complimentary and amazing fresh and big portioned and delicious and the guac i got was a small and delicious and fresh and it literally was so much of it not the taste test size and now i can enjoy it for 2 more days! I ordered Al Pastor tacos, which is an upgrade, I have never had tacos that bad and they were NOT Pastor. I would rate it zero if I could. I ordered a chimichanga and a quesadilla. Salsa and chips were not included, plus there was no sour cream, Pico de galore, or anything else with it. They charged me $31 for a cheese wrap and a mini chimichanga, chips and salsa was another $8 nothing included in the 'meals'. I tried this place before and thought it might have gotten better. I have no idea why there are high reviews; it is terrible and overpriced. Save your wallet and go to El Salto or something. Terrible and overpriced mush with a capital T. read more

The food was delicious- we met at 2:00. A slower time for the restaurant. After we were finished eating they didn't remove out dirty plates from the table. Saw at least 3 employees not doing much of anything. Would have been more enjoyable with a cleaner table. read more

We had a catering order for a birthday party. When we picked up the food, the staff was helpful in putting the trays in our car. The amount of food we got seemed to be way more than the serving size description (not a bad thing)!! The food was excellent; our guests raved about it and didn't leave hungry. I'm from Chicago and I moved to Cedar Lake around six years ago. I had a problem finding good Mexican food until I walked into La Dilla a month ago. I've often been wary of most mexican joints around here but I'm very happy with this business. There portions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable. The beans are creamy and actually have flavor. The salsa and sauces are flavorful and are ever so slightly spicy. The bottomless basket of chips are large and homemade from what I can tell. I was chatting with the waitress today asking a couple of questions and I found out that the cook at this particular restaurant has been with the owner for 14 years. This says it all. Do not pass this restaurant up. Go in and show some love and drop some coin. You won't be disappointed. I'm a regular now especially for there lunch specials. read more

Fajitas were bland.. the pineapple ones had more flavor.. one of the waiters that works there ( looks like he has a hair helmet) parked front parking spot playing super loud music. First, the good. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant is new, so it's nice and clean, but it doesn't have the atmosphere of a Mexican restaurant. The wait staff were very pleasant and attentive and checked on our table regularly. The menu is extensive, with a smattering of beers, wine, and drinks. Portions were good sized. Prices are good. Second, the not so good. The rice and beans were barely lukewarm. I should have sent the plate back just for heating. The beef cuts they use in their dishes are not shredded, but ground, and not the texture I have ever encountered before. And none of the food was spiced as I expected. Salsa was bland, meat was bland, and beans were bland. The guacamole was good, though. If they could add some flavor to the dishes, it would be a good local spot. read more

Went to the one in Cedar Lake, Indiana. Food was good but you can smell raw sewage when you walk in the restaurant. I ask the waitress and was told it was because of the vacant business next door hadn't flush their pipes. The owner of La Dilla should call the city water/sewage department. I have heard this compliant from other customers as well. I love the food but probably will not go back there again for a while. Hope La Dilla can fix the sewage air. read more
