This place really has gone down hill. First saw the beef in long tubes from the store sitting in a 5 gal bucket in the open air. Prices are high for the quality. They also charge more tax if you use a credit card, which is actually illegal. Would not visit again and used to go to this place a lot. read more

Must be too busy to take to-go orders. I just called in to order some tacos and the lady on phone said give me a second. After waiting 6 minutes on hold I hung up and called back and she said the same thing. I asked well how long and she cut me off and put me on hold. So l went to Culver's instead. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, queso dip, dean dip, Chilaquiles and the quesadilla. We ordered a quesadilla expecting it to be one of their best dishes, given the name of the restaurant. Not only was it average, they got the order wrong. Me or my friends have been getting a large queso to go from here almost every single week(for survivor nights) for at least a year and it usually comes with two small cups of salsa. Upon request this week, the owner gaslit me and told me they never have and that I was lying to her. My weekly business will go elsewhere. She was very rude and talked down to me. A shame because it is my favorite queso in NWI, hence why it received 3 stars instead of 1. Maybe the CP location will be different because I've gotten it from both. She asked who gave it to me and I said someone younger, she pointed at a man that did not give it to me previously and when I said it was the man with tattoos she said impossible because that is her son. So maybe I've just been a regular and he was being nice, but don't appreciate her attitude. Really solid Mexican food. They have a really good "combo" menu so you can pick two or three items. Two is plenty for me! Comes with rice and beans too. I've had the sope, chimichanga, tamale, and enchilada from here and it's all been great. Fast service and the food comes quickly! Great chips and salsa too. read more

I can't think of anything I tried that I liked except maybe the chips. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes. The cheese in the enchiladas and quesadillas was very unpleasant, almost the taste and texture of a thick Alfredo sauce. The enchilada sauce had no flavor. The beans and rice were very bland and the guacamole had a weird bitterness that I couldn't place. The service was only ok. The waiter was attentive enough but when there were options (margarita on the rocks or frozen, red or green enchilada sauce), the server never asked and we got whatever he chose for us, only realizing afterward looking more closely at the menu that we would have had a choice. read more

I want to say I cannot believe there are such good reviews but it's Saint John and I guess the expectation for Mexican food is low (VERY Americanized "Mexican" restaurant). It looks like any typical Mexican restaurant. The food was bad even for an Americanized Mexican restaurant. The Al pastor was VERY dry and both that and the beef were flavorless. The beans were semi ok and the rice dry and flavorless as well. I'll definitely be sticking to Flakos Tacos with REAL good REAL Mexican food. read more

1st time here. Visiting from out of town but my sister from Lowell really likes this place. Fajita Quesadillas. Wow! Got the steak. So good! Don't waste stomach space on the rice and beans. They are probably good also but that quesadilla topped with guacamole, lettuce, tomato, and salsa - dynamite. Really solid Mexican food! Went here for the first time in quite a few years and I will say the food stays consistent! It's delicious, filling, and comes out quite fast. On taco Tuesday they have 2 dollar tacos and half price sangria and margaritas. We stuck to the tacos and two of them were more than enough for us each. Mine was packed full of shredded chicken and just the right amount of lettuce and melted cheese. The steak tacos were cooked nicely and they weren't greasy or fatty. The guacamole was okay but definitely not as fresh as it could be. Their chips are also really great and not too salty! Staff is friendly and quick and like I said go for Taco Tuesday! A great Mexican restaurant, if you're not Mexican. I've been here a couple times now and each time I've had an underwhelming experience. The service is okay. The layout of the restaurant is "made" to look Mexican, though it doesn't look traditional. The food is okay, not great. They do offer vegetarian and vegan cheeses. I honestly think they are overpriced for what they serve. I've basically gone here mostly because other people have wanted to, but not because it's a personal favorite. Horrible. HORRIBLE. I ordered take out. This is the most Americanized Mexican food on the planet. I asked for queso fundido to be made with chorizo and only chihuahua cheese (not the "creamy" cheese). They refused because they "...don't make it that way." That should've been my tip to not order from this place. I ordered two entrees and they were barely edible. I also ordered the flan. It was tasteless and bland. Not even the sugar caramel was edible. I threw most of the food away. Everything I ordered was so Americanized that I regret ordering from here. Go to El Amigo instead. Much better than this dump. You've been warned. read more

So happy to have found this place! La quesadilla offers Vegans a large variety of food to enjoy... Their beans, rice and chips are all vegan and NOT made with lard. They also offer vegan sour cream and cheese for an additional fee. It's a nice clean establishment and the servers are friendly. Definitely nice addition to Northwest Indiana! read more

It was date night and we were looking for a Mexican restaurant to have dinner. We were told by a dear friend about this place. Plenty of parking in front. I ordered the steak fajitas. They were good but they weren't sizzling when they got to my table. The sides were plentiful. As it had, pico de gallo, lettuce, cream, guacamole, beans, rice and tortillas. My wife had the enchiladas verdes. They were very tasty. They were smothered with carnitas with its green chili sauce. The food was good the hospitality wasn't that good. The owner was catering to other patrons but not once stopped at our table to see how we were doing or how was our food...etc.. Disappointed. By the way, we tried their cheese dip. Dinner with my natives. It wasn't busy when we walked in, but based on the service, you'd think they were. Not sure if our waitress was having a bad day or not, but ‍. I ordered a sangria, my daughter got a daiquiri and I ordered waters for four. My sons didn't get a chance to state what beverage they wanted because the waitress walked away, perturbed and quickly. Upon her return, she then was asked for drinks from my sons. And again, she quickly left our table. finally, we got to order. The food arrived and we ate. The chips and salsa are on point, and if you like Pico de Gallo, this will be your jam! Did I mention the Queso? It should be illegal. Everyone I know calls it liquid crack because it's so addictive. One of my favorites is the Steak Chili Verde. Tender sirloin simmered in a just spicy enough salsa verde. You also won't find tacos filled with as much meat anywhere else. Period. Speaking of Tacos. I'm updating my review. The food is still good, service is still good but they really need to clean up the place better. We sat at a booth today and the blinds and windowsills are filthy. It's hard to enjoy your food when there is a dead fly on the windowsill next to you and old food splashed on the blinds. I want to say the booth seats are newer but I haven't been here in awhile. Please La Quesadilla...you are the only Mexican place close to my house. Clean the place. It really needs to be done. read more

It has been several days since we catered from here. I called every day for a week Asking to have Steve call me back in regards to my catering experience and He has not called back yet. I even sent 2 Fax. Every time I call I get a different story.. He is on vacation... He is opening a New Resturant.... Going out for Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo is crazy but we gave this little store front eatery a try and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was young and energetic. Our margharitas came out immediatley and were excellent. You could actually taste the tequilla unlike some local Mexican joints. Our food took awhie but was worth the wait. It was very, very hot. The beef fajitas were excellent with lots of large pieces of pepper and onion. We had a combo plate with chili rellenos, tostados and chimmichunga. It was all way too much food and we had at least one more meal for two. The tab came to $42 plus tip. Not bad for 4 margharitas and two dinners. And yep, the owner was a really nice guy! read more
