This bakery along Metropolitan Avenue has been serving the neighborhood for a long time, therefore I don't want to criticize too much. With that said, I have had their baked goods several times over the years and I am not a fan. My friend brought some over to my house the other day and it confirmed my opinion. Nothing special, especially the Pignoli, which tastes artificial in flavor. That was actually bad. If you compare it to a good one like from Lety's of Jackson Heights, you'll know what I mean. On the other hand, the Pecan Pie and Apple Pie were not too sweet and both decent. I will say that service is quite friendly when I have been to the store. read more

Buy pastries at your own risk! I decided to treat myself to some bakery goodies the other day so I went into La Dolce to buy a large eclair and a brownie. At home, I saw that some of the chocolate icing had fallen off of the eclair so I decided to start there. I popped some chocolate shavings into my mouth and.... yuck! No creamy sweet chocolate taste. A taste that I'd never tasted in my life before and have a hard time describing. Chemical? Refrigerator? I don't know but definitely inedible. The brownie, encrusted with chocolate chips, beckoned me. It had been stored in another tray, at the other end of the refrigerated case, so surely this one would be fresher. Better. But no! The chips had the same horrible non-food, non-chocolate taste. $12 of goodies tossed into the garbage. I did not go back to complain because I rarely buy pastries. However, it's sad that the owner doesn't have a way to mark the pastries with a "sell by" date. My guess is that the items that I had bought were sitting in the case for weeks, waiting for some unlucky person to choose them. Yuck. read more

I would give them no stars if I could! I went there July 3th to buy a dozen pastries. I noticed that the store was warm, the temperature was in the eighties outside. There wasn't any air conditioning or it was on very low. I think the pastries went bad from the heat in the store. When we started eating the cake and we noticed that the pastries had a real funky flavor. We threw them away. I paid over seventy dollars on these items. What a shame, we were really looking forward to eat these cakes. Very disappointed. Next time I'm going to another place. read more

I come here all the time today was an extreme disappointment! The cookies were stale, the rum Baba was dry and hard . I don't know what happened to this place but it's not what it used to be I guess I'll continue to bake my own cookies read more

I needed something sweet to take back to my parents as a thank you for babysitting. And just as this idea popped into my head was when I walked past La Dolce Italia. It was fate! A very old school Italian bakery, I felt like this bakery and I went way back. The problem I always have when going into a bakery is: Everything looks so good, I just want to buy it all. The person behind the counter was super patient while I faced the internal conflict of what to get. After careful consideration, I decided on getting two lobster tails, an apple turnover and a piece of crumb cake. She packaged everything up and I went on my merry way. Before moving on to those sweet treats, I would like to comment on the place itself. I couldn't get over how clean it was. There wasn't even a finger print on the glass looking in on the cakes and cookies. The cappuccino maker looked almost brand new. I was super impressed. Back to delicious desserts! Honestly, I can only speak for the lobster tails which tasted super fresh. The pastry was fluffy yet had a nice crunch when biting into it. The whipped cream inside was airy and not too sweet. I will definitely grab another one from here next time I pass. As for the other items I bought, my family devoured them before I could try. Their thoughts: yummy and delicious. They don't make bakeries like this anymore. The simplicity of this place is what makes it special! I am so happy I found this spot! read more

My husband always picks up desserts from here and he has never once encountered an issue. Kind and friendly service. Recently we got the chocolate mousse cake for our anniversary. It was THE best chocolate mousse I've ever had. Fresh layer of chocolate (that was still soft days later) and semi sweet cake. It wasn't overpowering which some mousse's can be. It was also a shorter cake which made it more tolerable to eat. Perfect size, height, and just the right amount of sweetness for a chocolate mousse cake. Will definitely get it again in the future. Also tried some other slices in the past including: red velvet (good but a bit too sweet for me), tiramisu (good) and some different cookies. The fruit tart wasn't bad. Overall, they have a variety of baked goods to select from so I'm happy to have these choices! read more

Great neighborhood bakery. Walking in just wafts of fresh baked goods. Their go to for me are the cakes. Love the strawberry shortcake full of strawberries and cream and not overly sweet. Their holiday baked goods are great as well especially during Thanksgiving and Xmas. Yule log cakes are chocolatey and great cake. Love their holiday pies. Can't go wrong with their pecan or apple pies. Delicious. Wonderful service and very friendly. I'll be back. read more

I dont know how this place stays open gave them 3 tries and everything is overpriced, not fresh and taste like crap.Worst gelato in the world, 6 dollar lousy dry p brownie that taste like freezer burn and a marble loaf cake that taste like nothing at all. Yesterday I went for Irish soda bread and the Saint Joseph's day cakes ! Very pleased with my purchase ! Soda bread light and airy ! Mold in cake! I bought a birthday cake for my son and when we cut it we found that the cake had a surprise growing in it - mold! It's horrible to think that I could have given my son and his friends molded cake. They have lost me as a customer and would prefer to get a cake from Trader Joe's than this place. Very disappointing experience for me and my family. I wonder if all of their cakes have mold growing in them??? Please see pics for proof of my experience. Good news, returned the molded cake the next day for FULL refund and the lady apologized for the experience. read more

Ordered a birthday cake and it was good. It looked beautiful but as it was chocolate butter cream , I thought it could be a bit more chocolate. You can see in phot that it's a light chocolate. If you are looking for a light fluffy yellow cake texture, this one is a bit more dense. Still the flavor was nice and you will not disappoint your guests. read more

Bought several cake slices: tiramisu, napoleon, eclair and red velvet on Mother's Day. Not good. They were probably from the day before because it tasted refrigerated. The cream was not a vibrant beige and dense. Very disappointed. Maybe they were hoping everyone bought their cakes and didn't bother preparing fresh single slices. read more

There is no competition like this is the only bakery to go to that has the best tasting cakes, cookies, cupcakes, rugelach, and many more delicious baked items. As usual I got my daughter's birthday cake and they never disappoint as the cake was one of the highlights of the party. I had it delivered which was great as it arrived on time and looked stunning. The theme was rainbow and the cake looked exactly like the pictures I sent like a true work of art. The cake was as delicious as it looked like it was lemon cake with lemon filling. The cake was so moist and fluffy with the perfect balance of cake to filling like everyone loved it. Everyone I've seen since the party is still talking about the cake and of course I gave them all the info to get to this bakery. This is the best and only bakery you should be getting your special occasion cakes or baked goodies from as they have the best bakers, the best and truly amazing presentation of all their goods, and the taste of everything is beyond delicious. We stopped into the bakery today to pick up a cake for my mom's birthday. We also grabbed two cupcakes for the ride home. Both my husband and I immediately spit out the cupcakes. It was absolutely inedible - tasted like cardboard, freezer burn and just this horrible stale taste. We are NOT picky - but this was simply inedible. We scraped the side of the cake when we got home to see if it tasted like the cupcakes, and sure enough, it was even worse. Totally stale and inedible We had to toss both cupcakes and the entire cake in the garbage. So upset, as we spent almost $50 and now have to order a cake from another bakery by tomorrow morning. Such a shame, we were hoping this bakery would be a new favorite. The lady behind the counter was very kind and nice. I don't know if this is usual for the bakery or maybe the items were sitting too long, but either way, now we're out $50 :( read more

The baking begins early within the basement of La Dolce Italia Bakery, as they have another location which is serviced and supplied by the original location. The location I stop in on a semi daily basis to grab a cappuccino and some treats for the house. As with most all Italian bakeries the Italian cookies are always well represented, but really never grasp my interest. I think I broke the Italian tradition of my family for being the first to not purchase them on a weekly basis and give them out, I do it with bread instead. For me, I always buy a cannoli, biscotti or an little tiramisu if I am feeling like a special treat for my breakfast, but when I need some dessert to bring to a dinner, La Dolce always has great choices that will not break the bank. There are some tables inside, so you can take your magazine or newspaper, sit and enjoy your reading over a hot coffee beverage, escaping this brutal winter weather we have been experiencing. Where to start! I celebrated my 33rd bday party on a yacht and was so overwhelmed with planning that I forgot to order a cake so I decided to go on yelp. I found La Dolce Italia and called them up, very pleasant and polite they referred me to Maria and told me to submit ideas and inspo. I wanted the cake to reflect my brand (Miss I Flip Bricks) no, I'm not a drug dealer but I do finance and deal with fix and flip loans plus off market real estate . I texted Maria with items I wanted on my cake and she was able to deliver a MASTERPIECE... everyone was in complete awe. The cake was so delicious and I've had bad experience with fondant in the past but this was done just perfectly! I loved what Maria did for my daughter's birthday (4/22/2022). From the first time I spoke with her, she's made it very easy for me. She gave me everything that I had dreamt of a cake for a girl's debut - soft, fresh, and feminine, very simple yet elegant. This cake has an ombre peach design which is what I asked for, with a few roses and leaves on it. I love how she was able to exactly do it the way I envisioned the cake to be. On top of that, the cake itself was delicious. The filling was cold and fresh when we served it to the guests and the cake was moist, it was so good. I am already craving to have it again as I was writing this review. On the communication side, I had no problem at all. Maria answers me thru text messages or phone calls, so taht was very good too. Thank you so much Maria for making it easy for me and for adding elegance to the event. I am highly recommending this bakery - La Dolce Italia for your cake needs!!! read more

Mini Egg Claire are horrible hard and stale. When I questioned the egg Claire are not fresh I was told it's because they are kept in refrigerator, I bought one to taste because year before I bought a dozen and they were horrible and again now buying one same tasted very old and stale. Will never go there again. read more

The caramel egg tart is filled with custard core and a caramel aroma, the coffee tiramisu tart has a sponge cake soaked in coffee and layered with cream on a crisp and buttery tart, and the matcha tiramisu tart is made with premium Jingshan matcha powder fully infused into the cake base and layered with smooth cream cheese filling. The tarts are golden and have crispy layers. It just melts in your mouth. They are also a good size. The matcha latte boba was also very good. NaiSnow is definitely worth checking out!

I didn't realize I paid $12.52 for a cup that is 3/4 full. This is normally never an issue as they always give a reasonable amount, but I don't know what's wrong with the staff making the drinks today. Personally, I feel like I'm being overcharged at this point.

They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. The staff at La Dolce Italia are warm, friendly, and always make you feel welcome. There's a seating area inside, which is cozy and inviting, perfect if you want to enjoy your dessert on the spot. Though I've never sat there myself, it's clear that a lot of care has been put into creating a pleasant atmosphere for customers. I always opt for takeout, but the experience is worth the trip every single time. Even though I live in Lower Manhattan, I don't mind making the journey to to Forest Hill just to indulge in their incredible cakes. If I ever order lemon meringue pie again, I will ask them to trim the tartness a bit and cut the sugar by half. Other items from the shop that I have tried include a very good rainbow cookies, some decent bread, and their not so great pignoli cookies. Service is always nice and friendly, so I plan to keep coming back to find what they do well.
