This place has lots of good things going for it. The owner of Leo's Lattincini told me the baker is now the owner. Walking about two shops away, I went over and discovered a feast for the eyes! The place is spacious, clean and bright. Workers are extremely friendly and nice. I met the baker Leo and he was excited to take the helm and told me they want to do more things. I didn't find anything small with the amount of pastries and cookies they had. So I wonder what expansion he had in mind. It's a matter of fact, my eyes were having trouble soaking it all in. I bought a chocolate eclair mini and Leo gave me a complimentary mini cannoli for free! Wow!!! Such great customer service. Leo tells me the special is the Napoleon and the Tiramisu. I spied a section in the back with tables. I bet if they made gelato in the spring and summer it would be a hit. The cannoli was crisp and the cannoli cream is the real deal. I will be coming back for some more goodies and you should too! This is a place that likes and talks to their regulars and their soon to be regulars too! Oh! Best Italian bakery not only in Queens but let's say in the five boroughs and Long Island. The best cakes I have had because they are so light and fresh. Every pastry, cookie , chocolate dipped biscotti are incredible , and just savored an Italian Riccotta cheesecake for Easter that was better than my grandma's. Had a chance to stop by this longtime Corona establishment before work and bought a couple of sweets to satisfy my cravings. They were a Carrot Cake, Blueberry Muffin, and Lobster Tail. I really enjoyed the Carrot Cake appreciating the higher than normal level of spice. The carrot flavor was very pronounced too. My sister however thought it was a solid and rather pedestrian take on this classic. I was sold on the Blueberry Muffin as while scanning the display cases on what to buy, one of the bakers brought out a fresh tray of these muffins. It was an excellent muffin; soft buttery texture inside, nice fresh blueberries, and not too sweet. Muffins are quite large so be warned if you're watching your weight LOL. I wound up portioning the muffin into two separate breakfast sittings. The Lobster Tail was hit and miss. The pastry dough portion was not that crisp/flaky. However the cream filling was deliciously semi-sweet, rich and smooth. Pretty good but I expected a bit better. read more

I walked in and I was greeted by a massive case filled with so many fresh pastries. I ordered a cannoli, some bow ties, two almond paste cookies, and a kiwi custard tart, coffee, and tea. Everything was so fresh and so delicious. Oh, and the almond paste cookie. Definitely the best one almond come I've ever had, and I've had a lot if I do say so myself.. So fluffy, so moist, and it just melts in your mouth. I should've bought every single one in the pastry case. Coffee was so fresh and good. You have to come here and try it. Great prices, too. For bakery products, I will give 3.5-4 stars, but I'm giving 5 starts because they were SO cheap. It was only $14 for a napoleon, a lobster tail, and an eclair. Napoleon was pretty good - the top and the bottom layer was very crispy but the middle layers were soft because of the cream. I think they used same creme for napoleon and lobster tail. Lobster tail was little disappointing because it was kinda soggy. I also got rainbow cookies and they were so cute and tasty! Also very cheap. I would totally get rainbow cookies again and I would love to try more products from here. read more

I found myself in Corona and, after visiting the Lemon Ice King, realized my time was running short and rainbow cookies were still to be procured. Imagine my delight when I logged into Yelp and saw Mamas just 0.4 miles away with stellar reviews. I bought a pound of rainbow cookies. I brought them back to Seattle to share with my brother. I invited a friend to join our rainbow cookie feast. The cookies were terrible. TERRIBLE. Dry, thin, lacking raspberry OR amaretto flavor. They were edible only upon dipping in Buffalo Trace bourbon, a surprising twist. TERRIBLE rainbow cookies. Sorry, Mamas... Eh. I'm disappointed. Was in the area and dropped in. The service sucked (not very friendly and the girl didn't know any of the Italian pastries by name). Got some stuff for family - the cookies were nothing to rave about and the raspberry filled sprinkled ones tasted a little stale and burnt. Their pinnole cookies were "ok" but a little too sticky. The rainbow cookies were decent but I wouldn't rave about them. Prices were reasonable. However, Sapienza in Elmont/Franklin Square and Delillo's on Arthur Ave. (BX) hands down much better much better service and yes, I'm comparing Backyard to them! lol read more

The front of the store is well kept and beautiful. With tables inside to sit down and a long table that would be ideal for families. The backyard of the cafe is beautiful. I have sat here during the warm weather and a little bird is kept outside, there is a fountain, and an Italy mural. It is well kept with beautiful flowers. The staff of the store is very nice and helpful. They are connected with Leo's Latticini and sometimes you see the girls working the counter running back and forth. The pastries are always fresh, and the store is closed on sundays and mondays which operates in traditional Italian style. My mom is Italian American and loves the Napoleon Pastries because of the fresh whipped cream and crispy layers...we live in Astoria with many Italian American bakeries and the quality cannot compare to Mamas who does a great job. The Sprinkle Cookies and Italian Biscuits are very good too and similar to what is found in my grandfathers region of Bari in Italy. The coffee is very good and strong. The prices are reasonable as Italian bakeries in Queens can be expensive. Hope this store stays around for future generations as the neighborhood has changed in terms of businesses available. read more

This place actually rivals the Italian bakeries in the Lower East Side. I've yet to find a red velvet like theirs, and the rainbow and pignoli cookies are hard to find other places unless you're in little Italy. But for the location in Queens, far and away from the city, its like a little piece of little Italy for those in Queens who don't wanna go too far for traditional Italian desserts. But the girls don't really make the best cappuccinos here, but the deserts are definitely worth it lol read more

With its fresh cakes, pastries, cookies, ice cream, and other Italian goodies on display you can definitely put on the calories here. Everything looks good for the taking and that's why I keep coming back and trying something new each time. They decorate for whatever holiday is the closest and the place always looks so friendly and inviting. There was a man there who seems to clean the place. He was soooooo rude and wouldn't let me use the bathroom. He blocked the area even tho I had asked if I could use the bathroom. He then purposely took his time and kept on mopping. After 15 or 20 minutes, it looked like he was finished. I went in to the bathroom area since the floors was mostly dry. He started talking under his breath and saying that the bathroom was busy. There was another door, I asked if I could go in that one, he yelled at me and said there was only one bathroom and it was busy. I told him there was no need for him to be so rude. I went in the bathroom, when I came out the manager or owner was waiting for me to basically reprehend me for going into the bathroom. I told her I had been waiting for a long time and I went in once the floor was dry. She kept making excuses for his behavior. Io told her she should not let any of her employees treat her customers in that manner. She said he has been represented before and he is a hard worker. I told her, maybe he shouldn't work there since she's had these problems before. I was there with my boyfriend and we both purchased some deserts and sat down to enjoy. While we were sitting I heard that same man yelling at someone but I ignored it, I figured he was talking to one of his co-workers ( which there is no need for either). What a bad experience!!!!!!!
