But like a lot of older cities, it takes on a very parochial feel, and entrenched attitudes and imagination can go hand-in-hand with provincialism. No restauranteur who grew up in Louisville would ever decide to hang their shingle on Preston Street near Jacob in Smoketown, at least not today, but that's exactly what El Fogon de los Parceros has done. And this is why cities like Louisville need outsider eyes and mindsets. El Fogon is not just bringing its Colombian flavors, it's also serving them in a spot that would otherwise be overlooked. And don't be fooled by the fact that the kitchen is the truck. The table seating inside the old brick building is charming and reasonably comfortable, far enough removed from the traffic of Preston to make for an enjoyable setting. But is it good food? So far I've had two really good and affordable meals here. Each time we placed at least one order of the corrientazo, the daily set menu, which comes with a soup and a main plate that includes a meat, plantains, rice, and a chickpea dish. The first time we tried the arepa burger, which was pretty decadent, but I think the best thing we've tried so far was the patacon, which is a lovely dish of crushed plantain, shredded beef and other accoutrements. A friend ordered the Parcera Burguer, which essentially has a plantain bun and comes dressed with carmelized onion, cheese, ham, corn, bacon bits, and fries -- an absurd concoction but as delicious as it sounds.

The workers here are super friendly and work in a orderly and quick fashion. Being a food truck they don't have a huge or diverse menu. Mainly consists of the media can classics burritos, tacos and nachos. They also have some classic apps like Chips and queso and Mexican corn. We started off with a few starters. I got the chips and queso. Pretty unique setup with queso toppings and shredded cheese blended in. Very good flavor and my personal favorite thing I've tried from here. My wife and oldest started with the Mexican corn and they both loved it. Said it was great. While I did not sample it did pass the look test as well. Pricing for the food is a smidge on the higher end for the quantity received. I personally got the chicken burrito and had it smothered in queso. Queso despite being real thin has a unique and good flavor. The chicken was really stringy and tad dry for my liking. My oldest got the same thing wideout full Loaded and agreed it just solid. She mentioned dry tasting chicken as well. My two middle daughters got kid quesadillas and they were super tiny. More like a tacos honestly. They both did seem to really enjoy them though as they devoured them. The kids meals came with a tiny thing of rice and beans as well. My wife got the burrito bowl or basically a naked burrito. She said it was decent. The chicken was once again very dry. Overall a pretty solid food truck. I wish the portion sizes were bigger. The shredded style chicken isn't a personal favorite of mine but they have really good queso and evidently an amazing street corn. Worth checking out if you are attending an event they are setup at or if they come to your neighborhood.

I get my tacos LA style: cilantro, red onions, chimichurri, sour cream and aioli. The best toppings for a taco! I usually get one pork and one chicken taco. If I HAD to choose one over the other, I would lean towards preferring the pork. But they are both great, particularly with those toppings! And these tacos come stuffed to bursting! They are more fork-food than taco ready. But YUM do they taste great! And that is my only complaint: they come so FULL, and only in one shell (many places double up), that they tend to disintegrate after a bite or two. But hey, I can adapt. Gimmie a fork and I am good to go! They are certainly worth a shot, if you like SoCal style tacos/Mexican food.
