I'm so used to hearing about people from, Visalia, Reedley, Selma, that go all the way to the tiny town of Cutler/Orosi to eat at this lovely Mexican Restaurant. It is WELL worth the trip. =) Try the bola burrito. JUST like the salsa verde quesadilla. However, that choice can be spicey because of the sauce. I also suggest you try the famous "Espy Chip's" A HUGE plate of tortilla chips with chile verde (pork and the salsa verde), melted cheese. finally, you can NEVER go wrong with the chicken enchiladas. all in all, nice service, amazing meals, and at really good prices. read more

THE best Mexican food I've ever had. The Chilie V erde (CV) is nice and hot and the espy (CV) chips were my favorite. I had a combo plate and the taco was nice and crispy and fresh. The enchilada spice had a nice flavor and the CV burrito was fantastic and included beans. The guys there are the nicest people you would ever want to meet. We got there 15 minutes to closing and they welcomed us in and made us feel like we were REALLY welcome. My wife had the same thing and she absolutely loved it! Stop! If you are fan of chili verde then you need not look any further. This place, hands down, has the BEST chili verde you will ever eat. I promise. To get the full verde experience I suggest the Espy chips. They are always hot, fresh and delicious! That's just to start the meal, for dinner you can't go wrong with tasty enchiladas, rellenos, tacos, beans, rice, etc,.. Little tip: order you rellenos with verde sauce on them. Yeah baby, heaven!!! You name it everything is fresh, authentic and inexpensive. My family only makes it to the valley every few months or so and we always make a point of stopping here and chowing down. My last bit of advice is to wear loose fitting pants or better yet sweat pants, that extra large stretched-out shirt your wife hates and your appetite. You will not be disappointed. read more

I was thinking - what should I review? I have a list, I went over it...yeah...sounds good, sure..ok...WAIT! La Esperanza's. Oh. Yes. Now. Please. Come get me, salsa verde. Yo quiero. Mucho mas. First, I must give "props" when they are deserved. My former DH, a lovely man named M. Burtner, told me of this place and brought me there for the first time. I fell deeply, sickeningly in love with the place and have since introduced my current (and final, I hope!) DH to it. A "real" Mexican is he, and after trying it and getting over the weirdness of how I learned of it - it has become a place that we consider "ours." And he's mentioned it to family members - so yeah! ;) Plus, he loves it and I take his thoughts on Mexican food seriously - with tias that cook even better, why wouldn't I? But on with the show... Get the Chile Verde Quesadillas. At first, I was skeptical - I *thought *that M was right, but quesadillas? At a real Mexican place...um...ok...I'll tryyyyyyyy it. Thank god for M. Thank god and all of the universe for the green sauce. I'm taking deep breaths, panting, nearly hyperventilating with desire, lol, for salsa verde! Oh! Ok...I was gone for a while...I'm back ;) It's small, family run place, with TV's and a super casual atmosphere. As I hinted at above, the chile verde is kick-ass-write-home-curse-in-front-of-your-Grandmother good. When paired with the flour tortilla and some kind of cheese...oh...see, they take a huge homemade tortilla, fill the inside with the chile verde and extra sauce and cheese, fold it, melt it, and then smother THAT with the same chile verde/salsa verde. Oh, and they have beer. :) Any time I head that way, it's a needed thing. An hour outside of the trip? Fine! Worth it. This is definitely the best Mexican food around! They have AMAZING carne asada and their chile verde is nice and spicy! The Espe Chips are to die for!! We get them EVERY SINGLE TIME we go. And this place is 20-25 minutes from our house! Yet we still go about once a week (sometimes more). If you go, you won't regret it. Just make sure to get there early enough. read more

This place has lots of history. I could tell by the way servers talked to local guest. Atmosphere was a bit outdated but with a strong sense of welcoming. Moderate business level for a Sunday morning, all severs wore there football team jerseys which I thought it was pretty cool. Placed my ordered for (Espi Chips) witch are chili verde over corn tortillas chip with cheese. Had to ask server for more coffee. Food came out in a timely manner but i had no silverware. Entree temperature was Luke warm not hot. Taste was considerably average. My observation of preparation of the entree was pork was not cooked in sauce it was added to the sauce. My ticket was never brought to my table. Had to ask some guy up front. Even with my observations and small detailed slips. This place has been open forever! Locals have supported it. Very few restaurants make it this far. So they must be doing something right. read more

I grew up eating at Espe's, and it is a mandatory place to visit anytime I'm home. If you ever find yourself in the Central Valley, this place is the one to visit. The beans, the rice - perfection. The tacos - damn I'm getting hungry. The enchiladas, the chile relleno, and so on and so on...I could keep going. HOWEVER - the real gem: the Chile Verde (on its own) and the Espe's Chips (with more chile verde). Holy crap I could eat those beautiful homemade tortilla chips, topped with chile verde, the smothered in melted cheese on top any damn day of the week. You should too. Eat all the Espe's chips you can. Now I'm sad that I live so far away. read more

I grew up on this Chile verde. This place is more than a restaurant, it's a staple. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu here.

I gre up in Dinuba and moved to L.A. when I was 18. I have yet to find Mexican food that stops my cravings the way Espi's does.... yum. My parents take me here everytime I come visit. As a kid I always got bean and cheese burritos, SO good. I still have them every once in awhile as sort of comfort food. :D Now, though, I LOVE their carne asada tacos. Delicious, perfectly prepared meat... which says a lot because typically I don't eat beef. Yum. Dear god, yum. Mix your rice and beans. Eat a ton of that (fresh) spicy green salsa on your free (fresh, warm) chips. Have a beer or 'rita... why the hell not? Delicious food, quick, super-friendly service (I always make it a point to flirt with the waiters!) and a cool atmosphere... what could be better? read more

This place was awesome and super authentic. We ordered the chilaquiles and they were super delicious. The carne asada in the burrito de carne asada was so well seasoned a combination of lime and adobo. I completely recommend it! We just came back from visiting Hume Lake and were looking to fill our thirst for traditional Mexican food and this place exceeded our expectations. I've known this place just about my whole life, since it was originally in Visalia. Its an important element of many of our family get-togethers. The main attraction here is the Chile Verde. Order it cooked with your chips, and then use the rest of it to pour over your meal. It has a kick to it too, which makes it even better to me. You can't really miss with any of the combos, I usually get the one with the 3 burritos. The beans and rice are great, the portions are very ample. Very tasty. Its not the nicest looking restaurant you've ever seen, the interior isn't all that special or that clean, but make no mistake that this place is surely a treat you don't want to miss. read more

This family owned restaurant is great. They are known for the chili verde, but it is too spicy for me. the cheese and onion enchiladas and ground beef tacos are delicious! The tacos are like what I grew up on, we now call them "Okie tacos" ground beef, onion, lettuce and cheese, yum. The enchilada sauce has a rich, smoky, gravy consistency that I dream about. I highly recommend for the food and the service. The servers seem to be all family and well trained. Only downside is the salsa is too hot for me, but guacamole with Pico de gallo isn't. read more

Talk about some delicious Mexican food. Went last Friday. Had to wait about 10 minutes which wasn't bad at all. I ordered the Espy chips with a side of rice and beans. The meat was so tender it almost melted in your mouth. The sauce was on point as well. I drove about 30 minutes just cause I was told how good it was. Did NOT regret the drive this place is well worth it!! If you want good Mexican food with great size portions you should stop there. read more
