My family stopped by to pick up lunch to go, and it was a confusing and inconsistently delicious experience. We ordered two pork tamales, two chicken tamales, one torta asada, and two horchatas. It took about 20 minutes to get our food. When we finally got home, we found that we had been given tacos instead of tamales. We looked at our receipt to see if maybe we'd ordered tacos by mistake, but it just raised more questions: Our receipt listed four chicken tamales, two horchatas, and one apple salad. So...the ordering experience and the service were disappointing. My wife ended up eating the tacos anyway. The pork tacos were charred and relatively flavorless, but the chicken tacos were some of the best we've ever eaten. My steak torta was good, but needed the condiments to help it out a bit (and their salsa is delicious). Went to eat there with my daughter on a Friday evening recently and asked if we could sit outside. There were only a few customers inside and no one outside. Waited for about 15 minutes and no one came. Contemplated leaving but decided to go inside. The waitress apologized and said she forgot about us. The chips and salsa were delicious but my food was not good at all. Also, said they couldn't or didn't have water to give us but could buy bottled water or other drink. After we received our food, they did not return to check on us and no napkins were provided. When finished,we went inside to pay as no one came out again. We had tried them before and really wanted to make this a positive experience as they are a small business but this is the second time and experience was worse than the first time so I am sad to write this review and hope they improve their service and food. This is supposed to be Mexican food place. No napkins on the table. The waitress put tomato on my tostada when I asked her not too. I asked for Valentina for the tostada and she never brought it out. The pork tacos were atrocious. The steak taco wasn't much better. The meat tasted like it came from a grocery store. No green sauce for the tacos. I don't understand how this place has 4 stars. I've been wanting to come to this place for a little while and finally made it on a rainy day. I was not sure what to expect but when the dishes came out, I WAS IMPRESSED! Good portions, great price, and the taste was fresh. This is a nice quiet option if you are looking for Mexican cuisine. When I first walked in, the waitress spoke no English. Whawhoever could not communicate at all. She had to call a person from outside. Ordered a steak burrito with ONLY beans, cheese and sour cream. I told the nice lady behind the counter twice. After telling her twice, she came back and asked me a third time how I wanted the burrito. I told her and she physically wrote it on the order for the cooks. After driving to my home I opened the burrito and it had everything on it (after discussing the order 3 times). I know everyone makes mistakes, but it was not busy and she was told 3 times. After eating the tacos I was kind of grateful they ruined my burrito. This place won't last. I have never written a restaurant review before but my experience encountered yesterday with this place could fill a bucket! Yesterday my daughter was excited for me to meet up with a very special work colleague of hers, while I was visiting her from out of state. The restaurant was close to a local zoo that I visited, so it seemed like a perfect solution. Two of us from our party of three, asked if the taco bowl shrimp contained onions. Coincidentally, we were both allergic to onions and emphasized quite clearly of our allergic reactions to our server. The server acknowledged our request and made a note of our orders to avoid onions, but when our meals arrived, they had "onions mixed with cilantro" sprinkled on the very top of both shrimp bowls. I asked our server if he would kindly correct their mistake, but when he returned to our table, the manager also accompanied him and promptly returned both our bowls to us, saying that she could not fix this problem as the cilantro was premixed with the onions before they were scattered on the top of our meal! I again explained that neither of us were able to eat these two meals and asked for any alternative replacement dish, so long as it did not contain onions, but she insisted that nothing could be done. We left our two meals uneaten on the table for the duration. My daughter kindly shared a small portion her meal with us both, as we tried to make-light of this entire, embarrassing situation. I asked if a reduction to the check could be made due to their error, but this was declined by the manager, so we just paid the check in full, feeling very awkward and disgruntled. I sympathized with our young server, as I could also sense his embarrassment during the entire interaction and so left him with a tip, as he had no say in the managements bad judgement call. To cap this awful experience, this morning my daughter woke up with bad stomach pains and she believes it to be from her quesadilla chicken dinner that she had eaten at La Estancia. As a visitor to Illinois, this is one restaurant that I will never visit again or recommend to anyone, due to bad management decision-making at every level. read more

I really like the food here. The problem I have here is we are in a pandemic and covid 19 is running rampant. When you are expected a wear a mask to help keep yourself protected and keep you from spreading it to others. Why doesn't the staff at this restaurant wear masks ? Very good, authentic Mexican style food. The chips and salsa are some of the best I've had around (The salsa is on the spicy side FYI, but that's how I like it.) I heard about this restaurant from a local Facebook page and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Pastor (pork) tacos which were absolutely delicious. I do not exaggerate when I say that one bite transported me back to my parents' hometown in Mexico. My husband ordered the Carne Asada (steak) tacos and Pastor gordita and he could not have been more pleased. The music is ambient and the service is friendly. Great place for fresh food after the Zoo. The rice and beans are made fresh. Not high in sodium like some places but still rich in flavor. The use all the traditional spices and cheese. They don't cheap out on quality. We had the Gordita, Gringas, Burrito and Enchiladas. It was all delicious. I have to say my favorite hands down is their salsa. They must be adding caldo from another dish. Perfection! I think their new so they will work out service kinks in time but very hospitable. I love this restaurant! I've been 3 times now, and each time I have not been disappointed. The quality of the food has been consistent and the prices are very reasonable. The service is a little strange because they have a counter where you can order, but sometimes they will also just take your order if you sit at a table. It can take a little while for someone to get to you or take your order, but if you're patient and want to just enjoy a great Mexican meal, this is the place.
