I was trying to go to Las Estrellas to get some lunch. I've gone multiple times to the restaurant and I come enough to know what I want. I don't speak Spanish well. The restaurant was loud and they were trying to unload the produce so the counter was full so I stayed away from the counter closer to the door to give them space to unload. The short middle aged brunette server and I made eye contact and she said one moment with her hands. So I said okay. She spoke to me in Spanish while she pushed a couple of bags to me that were not my order I couldn't hear and didn't understand what she was saying. So I said no it's not mine, no I don't speak Spanish. She said something to the chef while pushing the bags to me again so I wait and said it's not mine. She hard rolled her eyes and shook her head to the chef and another customer who were witnessing the situation. So I said no, no thank you nevermind and walked out. I asked people if they'd had the same problem because maybe it was just me. One other person had said they experienced the same thing. This isn't the first time she was rude to me. The last time I experienced her attitude problem, it was two weeks ago when she took my order and did speak to me in English. I had asked if I could have a clipping of the plant vine and she said no, which is fine, I don't need a plant clipping. I know it's random, she gave me a mean smile and she once again rolled her eyes and laughed at me when she was walking away. I work down the street and walk over during lunchtime all the time when I forget to pack my lunch. I'm honestly really sad because I was looking forward to having some taco today. This isn't the first time I've gone to Las Estrellas, I was served by the older lady. We been many restaurants and they hand you a menu on thevspot. Butt this place have their menu on the wall with prices to the item. We decided to get two burritos de carne asada for both of us. The restaurant is nice it feel like, you are in Mexico in a good way. The waitress brought us our burritos and a bowl of slice radish and limes to add to the burrito. The burrito was a good size we took a bite of the carne asada burrito it was really good with a good flavor in the meat. This is my go to place since the late 80's; we visited their lunch truck all the time; only to find out that the actual restaurant was only some feet away from it; if we ever wanted more than just tacos we could order inside the restaurant but if all we wanted was tacos then the truck was the the place; Although they no longer have their truck their tacos are still delicious, if you like simple good tacos then this is the place. That's why when my plate of tacos were ready and I saw the mini-burrito style tacos I realized that this La Estrella may not be part of the La Estrella chain . These tacos are larger , the salsa is a little more subtle(not the shot of spice you'll find at the other La Estrellas) and the price is a wallet pleasing $1.25 per taco. On this day the toasted corn tortillas were not enough to hold all the chunks of tender al pastor and charred bits of carne asada that fell on to my plate but I happily used my fingers to scoop up anything I missed. Tiny, tiny parking lot. I found parking on a residential street around the corner. The menu is on the wall. I ordered 3 tacos: carne asada, al pastor, and chicken--on a plate with beans and rice. Chicken and "combo plates" are not listed on the menu, but I asked the waitress and it all worked out fine. I tried my hand at Spanish, but she read my order back to me in English. Soon, out came a boatload of condiments: oregano, red chili flakes, green salsa, red salsa, cilantro, onion, lemon, radish (uploaded a pic to Yelp of the copious condiments). Then, the food. Some of the best spanish rice I've had. Good, lardy beans with shredded white cheese on top. Chicken was good--tasted boiled. Carne asada was good--reminded me of my teen years eating all night Mexican food in San Diego. Al pastor was amazing. The salsas were good too. The date and I got a 2 taco combo plate and a 3 taco combo plate and just drank water...the grand total: $12.25. I definitely want to come back. I've been eating here since I was in my mama's womb and it is so freaking delicioso! If all you want is tacos, then always order from the truck. Tacos MUST be from the truck! My mother complains about the service and waitresses inside the restaurant so either don't bother with the restaurant or suck it up. WARNING: the tacos are spicy but I can handle it. The asada and pastor tacos are the best. The lengua taco was alright and less spicy. Good thing you can opt out of the chile...but why when it burns sooo sooo soooo good?
