A really good hole in the wall! Great authentic Mexican food. Many places can't to Chilaquiles right but this place can. Friendly staff and looks like a popular place. There wasn't a menu but they have all the stuff.

As a resident of Boyle Heights, I've been eating here with my dad for over 20 years and it has been the best place to eat for that long. With Manuel's up the street this place is mostly for locals, but I welcome anyone to try the tacos or the Menudo/Posole on Saturday and Sunday. For over 20 years the service has been great and the inside is a classic East LA restaurant.

Used to come here, now the tacos are looking sad and skinny :-( The food is good. Hope it's just a small oversight.

After shopping at Food-4-Less we were very hungry, I decided to check my Yelp app to check out any good restaurants around Boyle Heights. I know my wife and I went Otomisan restaurant on Saturday it's just two blocks away from Food -4-Less that was a great meal. I notice one restaurant on my Yep app that my brother told me to go La Estrella Restaurant also in Boyle Heights. My brother told me they good tacos and burritos and other Mexican dishes. . I told my wife let's go to La Estrella when she say ok. . When we arrive at the restaurant we were looking the menu on the wall and then the waitress told us are going to dine in or take out, we told her dine in she told us seat any where and be there to serve you. We been many restaurants and they hand you a menu on thevspot. Butt this place have their menu on the wall with prices to the item. We decided to get two burritos de carne asada for both of us. The restaurant is nice it feel like, you are in Mexico in a good way. The waitress brought us our burritos and a bowl of slice radish and limes to add to the burrito. The burrito was a good size we took a bite of the carne asada burrito it was really good with a good flavor in the meat. One thing that my wife and I notice in the burrito was the hot sauce wow that sauce have a major kick to out taste buds overall burrito was really good. Find these restaurant in Boyle Heights or E.L.A and surrounding areas the food is inexpensive and really good sometime, you to explore different and try different culinary cuisine.

This place is literally a dive in the hood and with Ranchera music playing it takes you back to Mexico... So many 5 Star reviews leaves me scratching my head, even if I were drunk I wouldn't rate this food that high... must be all the Chicano's that don't know proper Mexican food. Tacos are served plain and wrapped in a paper, onions, cilantro y salsa is served to your table. Was charged $5 for 3 tacos Birria (Chivo) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=U7bytKBBIFT6JCHEfkeYMw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg A lot of fat left on a taco! 2-Stars Carne Asada https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=GbRx54mlQhmzZpH_DIvAGg&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Nicely grilled lean meat good flavor 4-Stars Al Pastor https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=9v8TUVrgmrR1fKoEoes_lA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg NO Trompo here, very greasy and lacking and spices you'd find in pastor. 1-Star Birria - Chivo ($11.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=Tx61MFTVaas_ISd3BHJ3TA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg The consomme was clean and flavor was ok, good amount of meat, fat and bones https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=8XMb030mdI4H3fBSHxZ27w&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg definitely not close to the better Birria's in town but it was ok. 3.5-Stars Tortillas - https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=xbgE4lX9XJAzukaaenjUtw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Made fresh in house was very good. Food was great and tacos were big and full of meat. One taco here is like 2 tacos elsewhere, so remember that when ordering.

The ladies charging become a bit sidetracked with chit-chat and it makes the checking out longer; unnecessary.

Portions were great for sharing, and the sauces really tied everything together. Service was friendly and our server checked in on us throughout the night without making us feel rushed. I've recommended DAMA to so many friends over the years, and it has become a favorite for them as well. It's rare to find a restaurant that maintains such a high standard year after year, but DAMA does exactly that. I truly love this place and can't recommend it enough. Cute building with lovely patio seating: from the trailing hanging pothos plants, Spanish tiles, to relaxing latin-house music the vibes were welcoming. I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. Crispy potato- Phenomenally done fingerling potatoes. Whipped beans- Carnitas on top made this dish. Fried chicken tacos- Found the chicken slightly on the dry side, if there was a creamy/thicker sauce would be even better... nothing wrong with flavor, good mild heat. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. Fine dining, for those special occasions or if you just want to splurge for a morale boost highly recommend this restaurant. Valet parking or park across the street or around the corner in a lot for $5-10.

Located between Koreatown and Pico-Union, this restaurant delivers an outstanding dining experience from the moment you're seated. My wife and I both ordered the Mole Coloradito with chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. One detail we really appreciated was being able to choose between white meat or dark meat--a thoughtful touch that lets you customize your meal to your preference. The mole was rich, complex, and full of flavor, exactly what you would hope for from a restaurant known for its Oaxacan specialties. As a welcome appetizer, they bring fresh chips and salsa to the table, but what really impressed us was when they replaced the salsa with their incredible mole sauce. It was so good we found ourselves dipping everything into it. Both meals were served with rice that was perfectly cooked with a great consistency and flavor. For those feeling adventurous, give the Chapulines (grasshoppers) a try. They may sound intimidating, but they were surprisingly enjoyable and added to the authentic experience. The staff was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and patient with those of us who are not fluent in Spanish. Their hospitality made us feel comfortable and welcomed throughout our visit. Great food, authentic flavors, and wonderful service make Guelaguetza a restaurant we'll definitely be returning to. Highly recommended!
