Eat up! We were there again recently and I'm happy to report that the portions are still simply gigantic and enough for 3 normal people. We had a ball there one night and really, the only downside is that the place was sort of loud, and service can be slow at times - it seemed to take a long time to get dishes out to our table, but nonetheless, we enjoyed it thoroughly. We had a wonderful dinner here, it's definitely important to know its family style in order to best understand the menu and prices! We had the chop salad, as well as a burrata, prosciutto, pepper, and tomato plate for appetizers for 4, which were both incredible! We didn't finish all of them between the four of us but the salad dressing was on point! For dinner, we ordered the gnocchi Alla vodka with prosciutto which was chunky and out of this world! The chicken parm was very thinly pounded and crispy...also SO food. Shrimp scampi was a 5/5 according to my father in law! We had a wonderful dinner overall, service was really great despite it being a little slow. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive! We didn't have room for dessert, but keep in mind you can order half orders of the family style entrees so you can save some room! Food is excellent!!!! Our waiter Giuseppe is awesome. We came in with the family. All nine of us and boy oh boy what an amazing treat. From scallops to clams and oysters and shrimp and calamari. Next a platter of the drag eat cold and hot antipasto for appetizers. Our entrees included linguine in white clam sauce. Next a platter of baked seafood surrounding a t-bone steak on a bed of buttery broccoli rabe. We all died and went to heaven. Came for a private event for 55 people in their back room. Service by young Bonnie and Donald was terrific. Guests had a choice of Caesar or House salad and one of 6 entrees. All were delicious. Bruschetta was outstanding. Each table also got a large tray of Desserts including excellent Cannoli, cheesecake, pecan pie, chocolate cake, red velvet cake and more. We enjoyed a lovely evening. We usually love this place and it is our go-to on special occasions... but stay away on major holidays. It was chaos on Christmas Eve. Between the mountain of pick up orders and people waiting to pick up, you couldn't even get their attention to check in for a reservation, like the man was annoyed when I tried give our name and reservation time after we just stood there ignored for a while. Once we finally sat down, it took over an hour to get the salad appetizer on our table, even though the place was only about half full of dine-in guests. People nearby that arrived before us waited even longer to get any of their food. Good thing was our water glasses never emptied! I felt really bad for the waiters because they dealt with the brunt of angry guests when it seemed to be more of a management issue, not being able to handle the amount of cooking and preparing pick up orders as well as table orders. We were a large party last Saturday and I have to say I've been to this restaurant before and have always enjoyed their food. This time I felt the prices were way out of hand. I know everything has gone up but I felt their menu was misleading. We started with a few appetizers for the table (all large size since we were a large party). The fried calamari was tough and chewy. The stuffed mushrooms were basically just stuffed with flavorless bread crumbs. The fried zucchini was very good but cut into skinny shoe strings so there really wasn't much on the "large" plate. The small buratta with beets was a very small buratta ball cut in half. With the dinners you also had a choice of small or large portions. I ordered the special which was a pork chop milanese. It was supposed to be in a brown sauce with mozzarella. The waiter comes to me to let me know the chef made a mistake and made it with a pink sauce with chunks of sausage and cherry peppers. Since I like that I said ok. I just don't understand how a mistake like that can be made with one of their specials. When my dish came out it was gigantic! I said to the waiter "did I order the large?" he said no you ordered the special. It was $58!!!!!! It had one pork chop bone and the rest was pork cutlets but you couldn't see anything because of the pink cream sauce all over it. If I knew it was that huge and that expensive I would have never ordered it. Everyone else order chicken franchese some pasta dishes (which if you wanted a specialty pasta was a $5 upcharge) there were no side dishes with any of their non pasta dishes. My daughter wanted pasta with her chicken franchise and they charged $8 for her non specialty pasta small side dish! Pasta is $1.25 a box! I called during the week asking if we could bring in a specialty cake and the owner (who is very nice by the way) said 'sure bring in anything you would like" what he failed to let me know there is a $20 fee to serve our cake. I left there very annoyed because I just feel we are all struggling in these times right now and I felt what looked like reasonable prices seemed to have an up charge for side dishes and I was not informed that my special was for 2 or more people. It's not a fancy steak house if you're charging $27 for a chicken dish throw some veggies or potatoes on there. Unfortunately we will not be returning. The food was ok but nothing to right home about. Some family members said their chicken dishes really didn't have much flavor. It was disappointing. read more

My family and I came here for Christmas Eve dinner. We had a 730 reservation. We were seated within 15 minutes of arrival. There was a total of 7 of us. The restaurant is family style which worked out perfect for us. For appetizers we ordered baked clams and the Caesar salad. The baked clams were excellent but the salad was absolutely out of this world. Best Caesar salad I have ever had. For dinner we ordered 3 entrees, chicken parmesan linguini with clam sauce and eggplant Parmesan. The food was delicious and portions were perfect. We even had leftovers. The reason for the four stars was because it was over crowded. It seems they may have added tables for Christmas Eve. When we got to our table we had to try to arrange ourselves a number of times to figure out how we would be able to sit. We were way to close to the other tables. We arrived at 1815 for a 1830 reservation. We were waiting for 2 people to join our party of 8 and they arrived 15 minutes late. As atonement, we were not seated for another 30 minutes. No worries! I bought a round of drinks at the bar and we all good! We were seated at a table against the wall. No, that's not quite right. The two tables we were seated at against the wall were pushed together to create a larger table. These tables were of varying heights and had a lip on the side that could be lifted outwards to expand. But, since my seat was opposite the wall, when it was expanded, I was practically sitting in my neighbors lap! The waiter put the lip down, and now I was holding it against my legs! Pretty uncomfortable. Meanwhile, because the tables were not the same height, 2 folks in our party put their drinks down "wrong" and they spilled them all over the table and floor. Their "atonement" was to wait 30 minutes to have their drinks replaced. Pam grew up in Plainview/Old Bethpage. She has been coming here for years and even had her dad's dinner here after he was buried many years ago. She schlepped all the way from Brooklyn to throw us this party! The waiter who was assigned to our table was awful. For whatever reason, and it's still unclear, he did not care for us and reated us terribly. When Larry asked if they could bring a bread basket to his side of the table, he rudely told him to share the one we had. And that's when it spiraled. Larry was loosing it, so I stepped away from the table to seek help from the manager. Guess what? This guy, our rude waiter, said that he was the manager. Perhaps I can speak to the maitre d? No. Is the owner in the house? No. And, If you don't want me honey, you're going to have to wait until there is another table available in another section and I'll move all of you! Move my 80 year old aunts? You're kidding, right? Can't you just assign a different waiter for the sake of customer service? NO. This man called me "honey" "bella" and "dear" so much that i advised him that i found it offensive and asked him to please stop being so condescending. And his response? "Sure Honey" For atonement, we waited 2 hours for our entree. I can't tell you if the food was good or bad, because we walked out. Thw waiter/manager told us on our way out that he didn't need our business. He has his "loyal locals". I have posted 145 reviews. 120 of those reviews are positive. 24 reviews only received 2 stars and a meer 6 reviews, received just 1 star. So, i think its fair to surmise that my opinion is usually upbeat and I don't throw negative reviews around haphazardly. But this was the worst display of customer service I have ever experienced. And yes, If you sift thru the reviews of La Famiglia, you will find most of the bad reviews in the "filtered" section and they are from out-of-towners. I expect, if an owner actually exists, he will post a response publically in order to debuke and humiiate me further rather than apologize in private. But, I pretty confident that he feels that he has nothing to apologize for because in this restaurant, the customer in never right. read more

Came here for a Christening event. Honestly while I have been here before for dinner, we were very disappointed with our most recent experience. Food took over two hours to come out - they gave us new baskets of bread for two hours before bringing the "appetizers" which was bruschetta. A very basic chopped tomatoes on top of bread - thats it. After this we had a very mediocre brown edged salad. All of this was followed by a "garlic and oil" pasta dish that was a "two bites and I cant go any further" event. And I wasn't full. I tell him my order, "1 chicken parm with rigatoni, 1 cheese ravioli, and 1 chopped salad." I arrive at the place (first time), go to the host and tell him, "I'm here for pick-up" and give him my order number. A girl, after 5 mins brings my order and hands me this huge brown paper bag, like the ones from Bloomingdales that say, "Big Brown Bag". I think it's kind of big for two entrées and a chopped salad, so I look to make sure it's my order. At first, I thought it was the just chopped salad they gave me too much of...but then I realized that there were two other large foil containers under the one, that first caught me eye, labeled "chopped salad". I realized what had happened... instead of 3 individual orders / portions, they made each of the 3 orders enough for four people. So, now it's 10:20pm and instead of 2 entrées and 1 chopped salad, I have: cheese ravioli for four, chicken parm for four, and yes, chopped salad for four people. Who in their right mind takes it upon themselves to order double portions on behalf of the customer? Unless your trying to SCAM YOUR CUSTOMERS BECAUSE YOU HAD A SLOW NIGHT. And when I told the host I didn't ask for double portions, he's said "yah, you gotta be carful, it's dangerous"... as if to say, they have a dim witted staff, that will automatically default your order to double portions unless you make it clear that at 9:45pm, you're ordering individual entrées. Ridiculous! My bill came out to be $67! I was so hungry and craving my chicken parm that, I didn't even want to argue. I let it roll off my back and chalked it up as, "hey, now I have food for the whole weekend." But the problem with that is, I've since tried the food and chicken parm wasn't even that good. The food was fair. It took forever to be served. I have lactose intolerance and asked the waiter if the dish I wanted was dairy free. He said it was perfect for someone with my condition. When the meals finally arrived mine had butter visibly smeared on my veal chop. This caused an additional 20 minute delay to get a dairy free chop. My friends didn't want to eat without me so their meals were cold. The manager did not comp my meal. He took a small amount off for a side of penne. A downside was that our server was not able to answer some questions about the menu. He also didn't tell us their specials for the day even though we heard him telling another table. I've been longing for the best white clam sauce and I found it at La Familia!!! It was loaded with juicy tender clams. The sauce was very clean and light and flavorful. Came back recently for a family dinner of 10 people. The food was excellent again - great burrata special with proscuitto. Everything was fresh and tasty - service was accomodating without being intrusive. The shrimp on the shrimp marinara were probably U-8's - colossal. We had a veal special with prosciuitto and mozzarella in a brown sauce, which was dynamite. The parmagiana and bolognese were also very tasty. I would highly recommend for a large group. read more

La Famiglia is a family style restaurant. Perhaps not as popular as Chao Baby or Matteo's but of the same mold. It's all about big portions for big families. I recently came here with my family to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was nice and clean. The rooms are dimly lit creating a relaxed atmosphere and the service is top notch. The food however, was a little hit and miss. The chicken parm and penne alla vodka were great but the shrimp scampi dish was not. It was all lemon juice. Appetizers were also Ok but I wouldn't rave about any of the dishes. All and all a good meal... but nothing to knock your socks off. read more

We had our engagement party there in March, and everything was great. People are still talking about how good the food and service was. We had 100+, therefore we had the whole restaurant. Sal was a pleasure to work with and was very accommodating. Our family is "old school" Italian and quantity of food along with quality are equally important. Both were spot on the day of the party. The bartender offered to serve us at the bar, and when we said ok, out came the linens, and we were given white tablecloth service at the bar. Went here for dinner with a group of ten to celebrate my son's confirmation. The different selection on the menu is fantastic and the portions are really really big. Ordered a hot antipasto and a cold antipasto , in reality we could have asked for the check right there, LOL, because everyone in our table for full. The hot antipasto had mussels, calamari, stuff mushrooms which were all terrific. The cold antipasto had mozzarella, tomato and salami. Then for dinner we the chicken and eggplant parmigiana. The trays for enough for the whole table which also included some pasta. It was all cooked to perfection. I couldn't believe all the food i had just eaten. Came in for dinner on a Thursday at 7:30pm, the place was pretty empty and we were seated right away. They had a party going on in another room and they seemed to only have one waiter who was spread thin. Although the waiter was very nice when he came over to take our order we only wanted to order the appetizers and then later order the meal. He told us he would prefer to put the entire order in due to the party(which is not true because I was here once before and they forced us to do the same thing). We did not mind doing this but we were not even given a minute to look over the menu and talk about it, the waiter stood there and just kept making suggestions(which is nice) and we had to decide on the spot. To start we order the Italian eggrolls, mozzarella sticks, and fried zucchini. All of these were absolutely delicious and if I had to choose the fried zucchini would definitely be the winner. For dinner we order the large sizes of the penne vodka and the chicken sorretino. The portions were a nice size and fed 4 people, we even had some leftovers. The penne was just ok and I probably would not order it again. The chicken was very delicious and I would definitely recommend it. For dessert we had an Italian cheesecake which I normally do not care for but this one was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. read more

My friends and I had dinner there Saturday night. There were 8 of us. First we went to the bar. I bought a drink paid for it, left behind a generous tip ($4) for one drink. Later someone came to our table saying I needed to pay for my drink. I said I did I paid with a $20 bill and left behind 4 ones as a tip. He said okay. 5 min later TWO people come to the table, including bartender and another guy. Again I had to explain that I paid and the tip I left. The bartender recognized that she had received a tip of 4 ones and yes I must have paid. To have them come debate it at the table in front of all my friends a SECOND time is unforgivable and unprofessional. We all agreed we would probably not return even though we have been there several times and in fact the guy working there recognized us. To be accused TWICE of not paying? I regretted the 40% tip I had left at the bar. In addition there was a huge sweet 16 going on next to us which in turn cause the service to suffer. The shame is that the food was good but it was not worth everything we were put through. We will make another choice the next time. read more
