Nice place for dinner in Syosset. Been here a few times mostly for birthday dinner celebrations with friends... always nice to come with a group. There is street parking in front or the behind the restaurant. It's right next to the Syosset LIRR train station too for anyone taking the train in. Best to make reservations especially for groups. Overall service and food are good. Menu options - plenty to choose from and along with a full bar. They have both family style and single portions. Been seated twice at the round table and once at a long table in the inside room, which can be used as party room. Wine and cocktails are good. Complimentary freshly baked bread to start off with while waiting for appetizers and entrees. Bread is really good but don't fill yourself up on bread! Appetizers: Can't go wrong with any you choose.. 3 staples for me: caesar salad, grilled octopus and fried calamari (all family style to share). Entrees: We had mostly family style every time... penne ala vodka - yum! delicious and one of the 1st to always be finished salmon - delicious! everyone loved it! chicken parm - a staple sauteed spinach - yum, get your veggies in chicken cacciatore - ok linguine with clams - good, a bit too much sand seafood marinara - good Have to try other entrees next time and always seem to be too full for dessert! I always wanted to try this old school Italian establishment by the Syosset train station. At first the service was a bit slow considering the restaurant was not overly crowded. However once we settled in the service was very good. My party and I ordered drinks and appetizer of fried calamari. The drinks were good , but the calamari was ok. The dinner we decided to order penne allá vodka which was very good but prepared a little different and the chicken sorrentino which was very tasty. For dessert we had an expresso with sambuca and Italian cheesecake. All and all the food and service was very good. I recommend if you are in downtown Syosset and want Italian. read more

The food was delicious but the service was extremely slow. Maybe they were short staffed. In addition, we had a bottle of Josh's Cab, two white wines, 2 large apps for 4 and 4 individual entrees and 2 deserts with coffee. The bill was $320 before tip. read more

17 years later and still a classic. The menu offers a balance of vintage dishes ensuring something for everyone. I rarely get past their baked clams and veal chop; my wife never passes on their grilled calamari. Tonight, my first taste of their chicken scarp complimented by (a modestly priced) 2016 Barbaresco, absolutely incredible! Coupled with a warm friendly team taking care of you it makes dinner out comfortable as home. read more

Went recently for a family dinner. We were seated promptly but waited about 10 minutes to be greated by a waiter and receive a menu. when our drink orders were taken, they were only taken for two of the five members of our table so they had to be taken again when the drinks were delivered. Appetizers were not brought out at the same time. The waiter didn't seem to be able to serve us all family style, which is kind of normally the case at a family style restaurant. Two of the three entrées were not good and three of five of our party felt sick afterwards, including one of us who had to call out sick from work two days later. It is also very noisy. We had difficulty having conversations at the table. We won't be returning. read more

Best octopus on the island. The wait staff are incredibly attentive, accommodating and just flat out wonderful. Large portions make for a tasty next day lunch. Kids loved the chicken parm and my wife and I had the red snapper w cherry peppers. Perfection!!! You won't be disappointed. read more

Finally had the time to rate Steve's. We order delivery through DoorDash nearly 2-3X a month from Steve's. Excellent!! Linguine w white clam sauce, is my favorite along w the salmon w mustard sauce and capers. The salmon was juicy, not dry. The chicken cacciatore was delicious and the meat falls off the bone. We had the broccoli rabe and rigatoni w bolognese as well. Other times we've had the chicken francese and chicken masala, both favorites for the family. Definitely a must try. Enjoy! read more

This is a favorite place for my wife's cousins but it's ok for my taste. We always end up ordering more food than we can eat and spending a lot of money but we do take home leftovers for next day lunch. I agree with some of the other reviews that the servings used to be larger. Most of the food was very good but the shrimp was terrible. It had some kind of chemical after taste. Unfortunately it was in 2 of the dishes we ordered. Other than that everything else was fine. For apps we had stuffed artichokes, stuffed clams and the shrimp. Clams could be made whole or chopped, we had chopped. Stuffing for the apps were generous and the same for each dish. A little too much for me.The pomodoro entree was my favorite. Excellent sauce with bits of pancetta? We also had the chicken scarpariello. They make a very good version of this dish but the white meat was a bit dry. Dark meat was perfect. We also had another chicken and shrimp dish but the shrimp tasted just as bad as the app. We noticed another table had a pretty cool dessert tower so we ended up getting it. It was a cannoli base with tartufo ice cream and fruit on top. Definitely worth getting if you still have an appetite. Service was excellent, I would give them 5 stars. Overall I would rate them 4 stars but the shrimp really bothered me. Definitely worth going but avoid the shrimp. read more

Came here with my family (group of 13) after my college graduation. Every single aspect of this dining experience was fantastic and memorable - it was the cherry on top of a perfect day. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated right away even though the entire group didn't arrive at the same time. We were also in a room somewhat secluded from the rest of the restaurant which was nice. The white wine was immaculate (see photo). Appetizers and entrées are all huge portions and served family style. Everything we tried was 5 star quality: - fried mozzarella - baked clams - stuffed eggplant - fried calamari - chicken cacciatore - shrimp scampi - penne alla vodka - tiramisu - cheesecake - canoli The service was impeccable. Everyone was very friendly and courteous, and not once did we feel rushed. The manager made sure to say hello to my dad and shake his hand. The cheesecake was divine. This is NOT normal, dense cheesecake that you would expect. It's made with ricotta and very light and airy. If you like regular cheesecake then you may be disappointed because this tastes very different but I absolutely loved it. Even the leftovers were delicious. We overestimated the amount of pasta that we'd be able to finish and ended up bringing home an order of penne alla vodka. It was surprisingly VERY good the next day. Generally, pasta is not good when it's reheated but this is a major exception. On our way out, everyone working there said goodbye/congratulations and I felt like I had just been in a family member's house. I hope I find myself here again. read more

Very respectful staff. Clean space. Delicious food. This is my 3rd or 4th time here. I always order something different. Today I started with the Spedino alla Romano appetizer. Very tasty and very filling. If you order this forget dessert let alone finishing your main course. For dinner I ordered Chicken Rollatini with mushrooms. It's delicious but like I said I couldn't finish it. Couldn't do dessert but had to do a double espresso with Frangelico straight up. Always reliable always good. Never disappoint. read more

Made dinner plans for 6pm. at Steve Pissola Buccola Syosset prior to the performance of Something Rotten, at Cultural Arts Playhouse on Saturday, March 16th. When we first arrived, we were told to wait. Even though we had reservations, the maître d' directed us to a table in the overflow room, which was often used for parties but also contained families with children and a TV in spite of the main dining hall's numerous empty tables. As a black woman, I immediately felt discriminated against. The waiter and staff tried to reassure us that everything was under control and that some people preferred to sit in the overflow room. Five minutes or so later, we requested to relocate. We ordered dinner because the show was at 8 p.m. The food was average, and the busboy who packed my leftovers didn't put all my leftovers in the container. From beginning to end, the dining experience was not enjoyable. Received comment from owner below, no acknowledgement, seems my assessment of what I felt was accurate. read more

Was there last night. There was about 16 of us. Food was horrible. The service was even worse. I can't even begin to express how upset I am with the owner. My husband had went and paid the check. When we had gotten to our car. 2 people from the restaurant came over to my car and proceeded to tell us the check was not paid. My husband went back in and at that point they apologized and said they found the receipt. The owner proceeded to say that 20% tip was not enough and said it was typically 22%. My husband gave them the additional money. They deserve absolutely nothing for there terrible and unediable food and service. I will never go back to this disgusting establishment. Unfortunately I have to give them 1 star to actually post this. They should be ashamed of themselves for feeding people crap to say it nicely!! read more

Beside getting hit in the head with a table, we were treated horribly. Pushed and shoved us at the table. They picked up the plates on the table as we were eating. Manger never came over to the table even though we requested one twice. Food was fair Service was a disaster . Never again . I should have known by fact I was able to get a reservation for 6 on a Saturday night in later Friday! Service. Let's start here. There basically was none. We didn't hear from a waiter for over 7 minutes upon being seated. Then we didn't see him again for another 10. This is a family style restaurant. Every other place like this The waiters serve the meals evenly for the table. This wasn't even considered the entire time!!! With exception to the salad. I guess we weren't good enough for service. Food - calamari was over cooked and chewy with way too many "squid" pieces! Meatballs were huge but not very tasty. Pasta was ok but portion wasn't close to serving 4 people much less the 6 we had. Salad has way too much dressing on it. Chicken was good. It took almost an hour after ordering our meals to get main entrées! It was clear from wait staffs facial expressions something was going on. At one point the entire room behind the bar had no food at any table! No one came by to check on us or apologize for massive delays. Not sure what happened to this place but I know I will never be coming back!!! read more

Ordered take out, spent $105 on full trays of chicken parm, penne allá vodka and fried calamari. I would hold the standard of this food similar to Vincent's or other well known Italian restaurant. If that's the type of food you're looking for, do not order from here. The penne allá vodka was severely watered down. Not sure if they have been slow for covid and they are doing this to cut costs but i would definitely never order this again. If you want a rich creamy sauce, this is not the place. The chicken parm was pretty good which is the only reason i gave them two stars instead of one. The tomato sauce again was watered down but the chicken and cheese helped bring the flavor back. The marinara sauce for the calamari surprising was the best of the 3. Plenty of diced tomatoes and garlic. Full of flavor. read more

Ordered takeout for a simple family dinner. I got the seafood marinara with linguini family portion and a linguini with clam in white sauce single portion. There was a mess up with the order I placed and the receipt that was on the bag. The person taking down my order had rung up for a half portion of each order instead of the family size and the single portion. The waiter was confused for a bit and talking about how I would have to wait another 15-20 minutes for the full portion and the owner or manager had to come over to fix the situation. Although the situation was sorted out quickly, he made a remark about how "of course you have to pay for the full price of the food," implying that I was trying to not pay for what I ordered. Did not feel the best when that unnecessary comment was made and both seemed annoyed that I was taking up their time with THEIR messup. Also, when asking for utensils and napkins with the take out, they said that they do not do that at their restaurant. I've never been to any restaurant where utensils or even napkins were not provided. The portions were on the bigger side with the family portion being half a tray. For the food itself, it was at best mediocre. The seafood marinara was simple and felt like it was boiled seafood in marinara sauce. The linguini with clams in white sauce had small rocks in it and almost took out a tooth when biting into the clams. Overall was not impressed with the food nor that brief interaction with the staff when picking up food. read more

My tiramisu that I had ordered tasted horrible it was wet mushy and had terrible flavor. I have been to many italian restaurants for example cafe baci and they all have excellent tiramisu if you decide to go to Steves Piccola Bussola *Do Not* get tiramisu. read more

When is three stars a "good" review? I'd say here. We came here for a birthday party recently and the restaurant did a very nice job with the setup. The food came at the appropriate times (and all together) for nearly 30 people, and the staff was prompt and courteous. As for the food? It was just ok. The salad was fine. The pasta with marinara sauce was unoffensive. And the chicken parmesan was, well, ok. Not too chewy and tasty enough. They had some nice kids courses too with pasta and chicken fingers. It satisfied everyone. Yet, I still feel a bit underwhelmed by this place. I suppose it's the perfect place for the 8-80 year old. Decent prices, good service, standard Italian fare food. Would I come back? Probably not. But this would make a perfect place to host a family affair or take those grandparents out to dinner. read more

It took us some time to realize that they were catering to the take out orders as opposed to taking care of those of us who were actually in the dining Room in person. We had reservations at 6:00 p.m. and hadnt gotten our appetizers order taken until almost 7pm when I basically had to tackle a waiter. The food is actually very good but the service this time was awful along with the fact that nobody communicated to us why they were so slow. At first we were understanding that it was a holiday and very crowded, possibly short staffed but then around 7:30 we finally started to realize that they were banging out takeout orders like clockwork while every table inside sat there with nothing. At around 7:30 my dad stopped Rocco the manager and said "C'mon Rocco" and he told my dad to "relax"...I got up to use the ladies room and walked thru the larger of the 2 dining rooms to see that they too didnt seem to get food and as I waited on line for the restroom a woman got up and followed a waiter to the door of the kitchen and begged him to take their orders..."nobody's come to even take our drink order and we've been here for an hour and a half". By 8:15 my boyfriend had it and got up to complain but first addressed the entire dining room to collectively ask if anyone had gotten their meals yet to which they all said no. We all said we should have just ordered take out obviously bc if we saw one more guy practically running to the bar area carrying white bags we were gonna scream. Rocco came up to my boyfriend and I guess apologized and My boyfriend basically said that everybody in the dining Room wouldn't be as upset as they are if they were some sort of communication going back-and-forth with us which they never did. He said " Look we know you guys are busy and it's a holiday and you might even be short staffed but the fact that you were catering to the take out orders and ignoring us is what's bothering us the most nobody has even come up to us to explain the situation or apologize or or for anything to help us a discount a free round of drinks etc it's just poor management". Rocco apologized and then a few minutes later they asked if we wanted anymore drinks, which we declined, and then gave us a bottle of wine followed by our food at nearly 8:30. By the time we were done eating it was 9pm. 3 HOURS! And the best part is that aside from the bottle of wine they gave us he didn't even offer to comp anything or give us any sort of a discount. I know that this restaurant must have been suffering for the past few months but they made a pretty penny last night and could have at least comp'd our drinks or appetizers. I am finishing up my dinner and I am amazed. This place has only a few tables filled which made us nervous but wow. AMAZING! One of the best Caesar salads I have had and beautiful tender baked clams. We got the chicken parmigiana, lobster ravioli, and chicken sorrentino. Big portions, but the quality of the food is what makes this. Calamari so overcooked since it wasn't properly packed for take out that it was also inedible. Pretty much the worst I've ever had. Not to mention, the flavors weren't the best. When we called to voice our concerns, all the guy on the phone did was get defensive about how we should have known fried food doesn't transport well and he has 700 plus orders blah blah blah. It's been a yearly Christmas Eve tradition of ours to order out Italian family style and we haven't been disappointed until we decided to try this place. Also it was a $200 bill and we threw out pretty much everything. Not every restaurant can do good take out and this one is definitely one of them. Total waste of money and food. I've been coming to this place, and there other location in Westbury. The food is great and I really like the family style. They also offer single portions as well. The ambience is very intimate and romantic. They also have a decent bar as well. The prices are good too. You pay for what you get, and you get delicious food. Went yesterday for a business lunch. Grilled octopus was superb with generous portions. Snapper with shrimp and clams was excellent. Great service. Very attentive.
