While visiting Utah on a trip from Florida we drove through Nevada to get through the Bonneville Salt Flats. Stopped here for Easter lunch and it was the best choice ever made. In Florida, Spanish food and seafood is a common part of our diets and this was probably the best Spanish food I've ever ate in my life. I ordered the combo fajitas and the meat was so good and juicy, you could even taste the distinct seasonings and marinades used for the meat. not sure who the hostess was but this young lady is helping me get my order. prices online differ from in store, i'm not from Ely so I didn't know that. no big deal. they give me my food and say we don't have any cabbage with this do you want some? and i say "like a side of lettuce?" and she said no it's for the chips. so i ask for some and she goes back, and i can hear here speaking poorly about me to the kitchen for not knowing what she was talking about, loud so everyone could hear her talking to the kitchen. again, not from around here and haven't eaten at this place before. very rude, immature, and unprofessional! and on top of it all, the only part of their food with flavor is the salsa. the burritos and rice were so bland and are NOT authentic mexican food! read more

Only been here once, but it exceeded expectations. Lots of patrons on a Monday night, so that's a good sign. The food was very good and authentic. Very large and good Margarita. Stopped by for dinner last night. Walked in just before 5pm on a Tuesday night and was promptly seated. Chips, salsa and a chopped cabbage dish was brought out and placed on our table and drink orders taken. The chips and salsa were so fresh tasting and the chips warm. They were so good, we munched away on two bowls before our food came out. Oops My husband ordered the Carne Asada burrito with beans and rice. It arrived piping hot and covered in melted cheese. He liked it. He said the quality of the meat was good and didnt seem grisly. I ordered the Beef fajitas plate with beans and rice. 3 flour tortillas. It arrived sizzling on a cast iron fajita skillet. I ate it with the flour tortillas and it was ok. I tasted the meat without the tortilla, it tasted overly salty and a bit dry. I probably would not order that particular dish for myself again. Over all the staff seemed friendly and attentive. Business was picking up as we were about to leave. I cant say there was anything extra special about the dining experience, but I can say the food and prices were good enough that we would go back when in Ely. read more

This is perhaps the best Mexican food restaurant my husband and I have ever been. He ordered the Carne Asada and I had a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a tostada. The Carne Asada was flavorful and tender. The enchilada sauce had just the correct amount of spice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in Ely. Stopped here for dinner during a road trip. Judging from the exterior/interior decor and the "Please Wate to eat" sign, I had low expectations for the food in this "Mexican Fine Dining" restauraunt. Regardless, we were famished and craved mexican food. My family ordered carne asada, super burrito and arroz con pollo. All three meals were fresh and delicious. We had absolutely no complaints about these three dishes. Deserves 5 stars for the food & customer service, Minus one star for its cleanliness... Stopped by for dinner while on a road trip. I had the shredded chicken and beef tacos. My wife a combo plate. All the food was excellent, along with the service. They seem to have gotten the word about the cleaning, as the staff was cleaning both the tables and floor as guests would get up to leave. A shredded cabbage dish is served with the chips and salsa. Most reviews include "For Ely, Nevada...", and rightly so, there are not a lot of great options in Ely. We drove by the Fiesta three times before deciding to go on. So, my review is that I am certain that we found the best place to eat in Ely. The food was perfectly edible. I've eaten outstanding Mexican food, being from California and now living in Colorado. And while it's not outstanding, it is good, fresh and flavorful. We enjoyed our meal and have no complaints, not about the food or the service, which was very good. From the outside this place looks alright but entering it's very dismal with poor lighting. There's a lot of seating and it's all very open like a cafeteria. The service is okay, it wasn't busy. I was served some chips and salsa quickly. Along with some Pico de gallo that was mostly cabbage and somewhat yellowed. La Fiesta is a great Mexican Restaurant! I am from the San Diego area where Mexican Restaurants abound and this place rivals any one of them. I had the chile rellano, which is my personal gauge of good Mexican food and it did not disappoint! Also had the "cholesterol free" beans. The name is deceptive. These pinto beans cooked with onions, tomatoes and cilantro are to die for! The name on the menu does not do them justice. Add to that the friendly servers and atmosphere and you can't go wrong. All of these time honored memories come to mind when I ponder the condition of the fine establishment that is La Fiesta. If you didn't already know, la fiesta is a Spanish term, which has no direct translation. In the same sense that no other human being on this Sheryl-less rock will ever be able to replace my dearly departed, no phrase in the English language can replace the beauty of this Spanish colloquialism. Let's talk about the food. Can we talk about the food? To use a quotation from my angel Sheryl ,"It's alright I guess." She always had such a way with words. These dishes are bursting with queso. They are dripping with enchilada sauce and they are foaming at the mouth with authenticity. The fractured skull of my enchilada is spewing thick globs of beef. if I'm honest, the real reason I eat at this fine cantina is because consuming an inordinate amount of beans smothered in a underpaid workers brow sweat is the only way I can fill the void that has been left in my heart. The La Fiesta is better than Taco Bell... but that's not saying much. The food is very gringo-fied - think tons of cheese and no sabor! I had a cheese enchilada and a bean tostada - neither had much in the way of seasoning, nor did the beans or rice that came with it. The husband had a chicken burrito - it had bone fragments in the filling, and also not much flavor. The complimentary shredded cabbage was tasty, but the salsa was a bit watery and, well, didn't have much flavor. We ordered guacamole, and I don't believe much was added to it other than avocado and tomatoes. I have a special comment about the service - our server seemed to have an "I don't care" approach to work... at one point our guacamole was sort of thrown on the table as he walked by it (while he was en route to chat up some girls at another table). My husband and I were a little stunned - that was a first for us! In summary: if you need to eat while driving through Ely, this wouldn't be the worst place to stop. It's rural Nevada "good". But don't expect any culinary wonders - you really would just be fending off starvation here. read more

Our family met here for dinner while we were visiting. They handled our large party well. No draft beer but plenty of varieties in bottles. I was hoping for albondigas soup but they don't have that. Our server suggested Campechana on the menu. It was so impressive. I'm not a fishy soup lover and was worried that since it had shrimp and octopus it would be fishy. Not one bit! It was delicious and I'm hoping to find a recipe to recreate this at home! They also serve the most interesting salsa made with cabbage. Delish! It was my first night in town and I had been driving all day, living on snacks, because I didn't see anyplace that looks like it had lunch food I'd like. All of the parking spaces were full, but I wasn't daunted and parked half-way down the block and walked back. Glad I did! The place was busy but the staff seemed to have everything under control. I ordered a Margarita and it was delicious! The Carne Asada was likewise yummy; the guacamole served with the Carne Asada was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive without being pushy. Several groups waiting to be seated and at least two groups waiting to pickup their orders. Should not have gone back the next night. The place is understaffed. I ordered a chicken dish with a cream sauce with mushrooms, very good choice, the rice and beans were good, the salsa was good, they also had a cabbage salsa that I had never had before that was very good.
