Crispy fried pickles with the spicy ranch

Satisfying and generous burgers and amazing fried pickles. We just got back from a long road trip and this definitely hit the spot, now a must stop place when rolling through Ely. Kameron was an awesome server too, especially friendly and knowledgeable, tipped us off to some fun things to do around town during our stay. Looking forward to coming back!

Stopped here for lunch. My biggest complaints are that it is in a casino so people can smoke right outside the restaurant and the sandwiches are SO big and they give you tons a fries. Maybe a good problem to have? None of us even ate half our fries, which I think were homemade and pretty delicious. My chicken Philly seemed really salty but everyone else liked their food. Service was fast and pleasant.

Located inside the Jailhouse Casino this restaurant is innovative and fun! Our waitress was so nice, friendly and fast. My husband got a coffee and myself a tea since we came in for Breakfast. Very well themed to the Jailhouse aesthetic as well! We split their Aptly named Big Breakfast Burrito which was more than enough for two people to eat. This burrito is not your average breakfast. Instead of just a tortilla, it is a full on quesadilla that your sausage, eggs, bacon and cheese is nestled into! Truly a breakfast that can't be beat! They also serve it with a tasty little salsa that added just the perfect little acidic brightness to the burrito. Overall, this was a fantastic place to come for breakfast and we would love to come back to try move of their yummy looking menu!

They moved! To the Jailhouse Casino. Very nice place, still very friendly and great service. Food continues to be superb. Smash burgers are fresh and hot, we had French fries with a generous amount provided. Well appointed, good music playing allowing for conversations without being drowned out. They service breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week (closed Sunday at 3pm).

    Mushroom burger, fantastic!

First off, the service is amazing! I had the best mushroom/Swiss burger that I've ever eaten. The hamburger patty was way bigger than the bun, and so flavorful. The French fries are crunchy and well seasoned. My husband had the gyro and said it was fresh and tasty. Great atmosphere and would definitely come back.

Super good food! The portions were great and the servers were very nice. Clean restaurant and good seating options for all kinds of group sizes. Biggest downside was that it was in the casino so it smelled of smoke. If that's not something you're ok with it may not be a good option for you. Food was great though!

This place is a little hard to find, but totally worth the search! Smash and grab restaurant is located inside the Jailhouse Casino on fifth Street. Kids of all ages allowed! We ordered three breakfast dishes: burger Bennie, country omelet, and breakfast burrito. All were exceptional. Seriously. We didn't expect much from this sleepy town but we're happily surprised by this cuisine. Also check out the Garnet Hill if you like rock hounding. Just a few miles up the road.

    Great Tots!

Great Smashburger! And great tots and plenty of them! The service was great and we got our food very fast

The smash burgers are DELICIOUS! The Mushroom Swiss burger was so cheesy and perfectly smashed and the Spicy Smash had just the right spice. French fries were soft & crispy thin and salted!

Poached eggs and awesome hash browns.

When in Ely make the smart choice, eat at Smash N Grab. Breakfast, lunch or dinner it's the right choice. While we started out with dinner here and had a great burger and cheesesteak sandwich we returned for a pleasant surprise for breakfast. We made the mistake of eating at the chain across the street the day before. Don't make the same mistake we did. Stop in and see Tasha for great service and enjoy the well made fresh food.

Review # 20 for 2025…read more For a cafe in the middle of nowhere at a National Park, this place was great and very reasonably priced!! It was a very pleasant surprise. We got to Great Basin early in the morning to try and get stand by tickets for the observatory tour and so we did not have time to get breakfast in the morning. We also had a cave tour that morning right after signing up for tickets. We did bring some food, but lunch meats type of lunch and I wanted to get some hot food for my baby boy as it was cold and raining on/off that day. They are open from 8am-5pm everyday. There was a good variety of food. I ended up getting the loaded breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were a bit overcooked but overall it tasted good. My baby sure loved it! It was topped with cheese and bacon and costs around $10. I also got an iced mocha and cold brew for the hubby. My husband liked his cold brew, I like my mocha a bit less sweet but it did the job for me. It does get really busy so expect a wait if it's busy as there is one person in the front and one in the back making the food. The lady taking my order was very nice and helpful. There are a handful of tables inside, as well as a handful of tables outside. There are also some park picnic tables if you walk around behind the building a bit. Would I come back here? If I was at Great Basin again I totally would! Other items I saw people ordered looked really good too!! The prices are very fair and I would definitely get some hot food here and not pack so much food next time around. I really wanted to try the chili!

Five stars for just existing in such a remote location. My server suggested that they had a prime rib dinner special that evening and I couldn't resist trying it. The food wasn't over the top in flavor and quality but was solid, flavorful and an unexpected treat. The prickly pear margarita wasn't my favorite but was certainly refreshing. I just like a little more tart taste in my cup o' tequila. The international crowd seemed to enjoy the outdoor dining ambiance while I, being solo, hung out and ate at the bar. The staff were friendly, maybe a little inefficient in their efforts, but all were helpful given time. I felt a little bad for the owner-chef, who seemed to be herding cats at times. Overall, I'm really glad I had dinner here in Baker rather than waiting to eat in Ely where I spent the night. I wish the owners and staff success and will be back when I'm in the area.

The servers were next-level friendly and prompt despite the dinner rush, they have some fun art, and it's a peaceful place. I really loved the green beans, and another favorite item was the apricot sorbet. They make a ton of items, which is very cool. I only wish they had a few more dairy-free items (especially for breakfast), but what they do offer is far better than expected for this remote location- it would stand up in any metro area. My husband raved about the root beer float, pasta, and pizza. Dinner is sit-down and if you go for breakfast or lunch, it's counter service. They have an extremely well-stocked bar- we didn't partake, but many around us did, and drinks looked excellent.

It's convenient, breakfast is included with your room, and it's really no different than any other Denny's anywhere. We went on two consecutive mornings when we visited Ely and although the service was a little slow during the breakfast the food was well prepared, presented and the server was very courteous. The food was exactly as expected, and I can't imagine how breakfast could be much better than this anywhere else in town. It was certainly several levels above any chain hotel buffet of heated up, pre-prepared foods. Tip - when staying for the free breakfast take the option of applying five dollars off of any menu item instead of the free breakfast. It's pretty skimpy. We paid about $25 for a very nice breakfast this way. Give it a try, especially if you're staying in the hotel. There aren't a lot of other options in Ely.
