This is a large LA Fitness located on the northwest side of town. It is not as busy as the north suburban location so I tend to come here more often. They have a lap pool and hot tub that are also not very busy. read more

What a Great Club with a tremendous staff! Samson, Ralf and Raoul just to name a few but they are all awesome. The club has fantastic activities with caring instructors who are more than willing to have new members jump in! I highly recommend the personal training as it has helped me with my goals. IMMEDIATELY NO! I was ISO a gym with a sauna bc I currently go to PF. They just renovated and it's nice but they don't have a sauna. I also want free weights. I went to this gym to try it out thinking I might like it. I hated it. The equipment was outdated and some machines had rust. The biggest issue...I found myself waiting for a machine. Now I had switched up the order in which I do my work..:but I came back and had to wait AGAIN before I just omitted to the exercise. This is he closest one to me. No way will I drive further. It has to be convenient for me or I won't go. It's safe to say, I will NOT be signing up here. Such a disappointment! read more

Update: adding a star and even going as far saying this location deserves a 3.5 stars. I've recently started going to the gym 3 mornings a week. The crowd is half of what it is in the evenings so I don't have a problem using the machines/weights. I don't think the woman who was always unpleasant at the front desk works there anymore. I have recently been greeted by a handful of people who are always friendly. Weekends are still crowded no matter what time I go and the trash cans are still overflowing if I go on a weekend afternoon. I'm glad I ended up keeping my membership here and plan frequenting this location. I've had a membership here since November 2018 and it's been pretty disappointing. The only reason I'm giving it three stars is being of the proximity to my house and the hours of operation. It's less than 5 minutes from my house and they're open until 11:00 p.m. I don't work out super late but I like that I have the option to. Now, the not-so-good..... The blonde woman who works the front desk in the evenings is very unfriendly. I have never seen her look up to greet guests. She's constantly on her phone. I can't believe management allows this. Trust me, I'm on my phone a lot, but if I had her job I'd make it a point to make guests feel welcome. It's an immediate turn off when I get there. The hand sanitizer dispenser on the second floor by the treadmills has been out for almost 2 weeks...yes...TWO. WEEKS. It's the only one on that floor and I think most people like to use something to wash their hands of germs that are on the equipment. Machines that have the "out of service" sign seem to take weeks to be fixed. I only go here for convenience. I'll probably "freeze" my account once it gets warmer since I enjoy biking and running outside. I would nrecommend this gym. read more

Summary: like most of the rest of the reviews: Meh, could be cleaner, but it's close. I don't use the changing rooms and try to avoid the bathrooms. I don't use the sauna or pool. I mainly use the elliptical machines. The machines are dated and you have to remember which machines sound like a 1980's cheapo banana seat bike that's been left out in the rain. The deferred maintenance is pretty bad. Members consistently neglect to wipe down machines after using. Seriously folks, not looking for a cold or the flu. I end up wiping them down before and after my workout. Also, I frequently find paper towels on the floor and pick them up. The detergent dispensers are frequently broken. I'll continue to go, because of the location, but I'm not in love with it. read more

The club off of 146th Street in Carmel is filthy!! It has continued to decline over the past decade even after a remodel. Today however was the final straw after a staff member boldly walked up to my husband and accused him of stealing their attachment weights! (I can produce a receipt) My husband tried to explain he has been bringing these weights with him for the last year and they are his own personal weights but the staff member simply stared at him and no matter what my husband said he continually repeated "we have been missing these for two weeks". This was both humiliating and offensive. I will be terminating my 10 year membership effective immediately. read more

I only come to this location because I live in Zionsville and there are no other options for a large gym. The gym has a great variety of machines and equipment but it's filthy! Many of the machines are broken at one time and it takes forever to have them fixed. Machines are clearly never deep cleaned/wiped down. Locker rooms are disgusting, especially the bathroom and shower portion. The gym is also way overdue for new machines- especially cardio, nothing is updated. The equipment for the cable machines (like handles, straight bar, ropes) are GROSS and I've seen one thing be replaced and I wish they kept more than just 1 or 2 of each attachment (I've actually noticed this at multiple LA locations). read more

Went to LA Fitness with a friend who had a complimentary 3 day guest pass. When I handed them my out-of-state license, they went from cheesy-friendly to cool and said that the guest passes were only meant for people interested in membership and that I could buy a day pass for $15 or a month pass for $40. It said nothing about this on the pass. We were already there so I paid, but the experience ensured that I would not sign up for an LA Fitness membership ever. This gym sucks. The AC has been broken for well over a week now. Unacceptable. Even when it's working, this is the most humid and stuffy gym I've ever been to. I've never, ever seen employees wiping down machines or equipment. When you want to wipe down a machine yourself, because you'll want to, you have to use paper towels and foam. No spray or wipes available. Last, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING. Stuff on the floors, over flowing trash cans, filthy stalls. Gross gross gross. Old, boring magazine selection. Someone is making serious money off this place, given what a membership costs and the lack of sanitation and attention to detail. The YMCA is cleaner, colder, and has a sliding scale. read more

I joined just for the pool.... that's it nothing else! They're pretty big on trying to up sell you, but it's easy for me to keep saying "no"... and I'll keep saying it till they can at least try and keep this gym cleaner. I will not shower there or do anything other than swim my laps and sometimes I will sit in the hot tub. The location of this gym gets 5 stars. The dirty locker rooms that never have paper towels, or even toilet paper, are disgusting. It is hotter than heck in here all of the time. Treadmills have salt on them from people wearing their shoes in. I love to people watch here, but while I love to lift weights, those are a mess too! The staff, all about sales, they think they are so slick and they will not leave you alone or friends about this. Never give them anyone else's number. Yikes where do I begin. I have been an avid lifter since high school and this specific location is really dropping the ball. It's a shame since staff seemed friendly and knowledgeable but was just understaffed for daily cleaning and maintenance on the facility. There locker room has a high school locker room during football season smell to it, that sweaty mildew smell. The week I went here it had the smell three out of four day. So it's not cleaned daily. Other gym members I noticed have no regards to cleaning there sweat off machines after use, I'm not really about getting staff infection. Lack of equipment on the floor for the cable crossover machines and weights do not get put away. Simple disregards. read more

Been a member here for 4 months. Here are the positives: big facility, nice pool and hot tub, plenty of equipment to use and many classes with good instructors. The negative: locker bathrooms are absolutely filthy, never any toilet paper, soap, toilets are gross, etc. Equipment is filthy, covered in dust and hair, rarely see anyone wiping equipment down. I truly wish they would invest more time and manpower in keeping things clean. They have many trainers onsite but watch for the heavy upselling on training when you sign up for a membership. read more

I have to admit, i agree with some of the other reviews, especially when it comes to their personal training and difficulty canceling memberships. Even with the negatives, this gym is not as bad as the rating suggests. From a personnel stand point it is hit or miss, most of my positives have been in group exercise and spin classes. The facility itself is open and has a nice mezzanine area with the cardio equipment. The racquetball courts are well maintained, so is the basketball court. The crowd is not as intimidating as some make it sound, of course you have your hard core lifters, but you also have the people who are less intense, all shapes and sizes. I used to be overweight and easily intimidated by fit and/or "meatheads" types, from what I've observed and experienced at this location, no one particularly cares what your fitness level is. read more

The heating has been out in the main classroom and the women's locker room for almost three months. The standard answer is "We are waiting for a part." Would they still be waiting if there was a problem in the men's locker room? Excellent instructors are poorly paid. The gym and pool are filthy! Main issue for this gym, like all LA Fitness locations, is maintenance. Sales manager was very nice to give me a three day pass no strings attached or pressure. I was visiting from out of town. Big, well equipped gym, just poorly maintained. Flashy on the outside, dated on the inside. MANY maintenance issues in locker rooms, saunas and pool areas. LA fitness is a gym you get what you pay for. For 30 bucks a month I expect to have ok equipment and the occasional out of order machine. I've paid 60 before and have had better equipment and amenities. This location, to me, is the best Indy has to offer. Broad ripple had too many loud and dare I say "bros" and the equipment was even worse. I also prefer the layout here as opposed to the broad ripple gym, more people watching when you are on the treadmill. Now for LA in general, you should put some more money into your gyms in Indy. A month ago I went to an LA in Oak Brook, IL and the facility was ten times better. Free towels, better equipment, free shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that didn't smell awful, and my personnel favorite, a row machine that can have added resistance and a comfy seat. Step up your game in Indy and then maybe the reviews would be better. I'm someone just looking for a place to lift some weight for an ok price and this gum does it for me but since not all LAs are created equal I give it 3 stars. read more

I can't really say much about the staff, because I've had very little interaction with any of them. As for the facility, it seems like it's in a steady state of decline. I'm writing this here, because their website provides no place at all to provide feedback! Do they even care what their members think? Cleanliness gets a 0. I see the cleaning people there all the time, yet the place is still filthy. I don't think they ever sweep or mop the floors. I use an app on my phone for a workout log, and wherever I set my phone down, it's covered in dust and dirt. I've seen salty sweat drips on the floor that have been there months, in the same spot, so the floor has obviously not been mopped. When I went to Cardinal Fitness they mopped the floor EVERY night. I know it's a smaller gym, but if this is an issue, hire more cleaning staff! Equipment gets a 2... or maybe a 1. Half the cardio equipment is broken. One of the treadmills has said "check speed system" for a good two months now. If you can find one where the heart rate monitor actually works, you're lucky. Half the time they're beeping non-stop because it's picking up a reading, even though my hands are nowhere near them. Move to the free weights section, and good luck finding clips to go on the barbells. Those things can't be expensive, why is there not a set for EVERY barbell in the gym?! They used to have pads for the barbells as well, that come in handy for doing squats and not bruising your neck, but those all fell apart, and they haven't replaced them. I guess I'll purchase my own. Lately since the weather has warmed up, it seems like they still have the heat on. My entire shirt is drenched in sweat by the time I leave there. Finally, the music they play SUCKS!!! It's a gym, I don't wanna hear sad, slow songs about a broken heart! I'm trying to get pumped and motivated, not depressed! I also wish more of the TV's were tuned to ESPN, ESPN2, or other sports channels. It is a gym after all, and a lot of people there are interested in sports! Almost all are tuned to news channels, and the few you can see from the weights area are just scrolling ad screens. I was there one night and wanted to watch the NCAA tournament games while running, and they didn't even have them on! Unfortunately since every gym seems to be going out of business, this is the only good option nearby, unless you wanna go to ghetto Golds. About the only good thing I can say is they are open until 11. Only during the week, though. read more

Facility is ok. Staff including the manager Chris are not helpfil at all. I was over charged with some additional fees. His simple answer was to email their head office. Came into the store August 2022 to cancel my membership. A lady named Rebecca assured me she could assist. She sat me down at a computer station and cancelled my membership (so I thought). She never hinted that I would need to take any more action. I left and that was that. I continued to use the gym in September as I paid for it at the beginning. (You pay 2 months up front at sign-up and get one month to keep going after you cancel) Fast forward to December 2022, I check my bank statements on the weekend and notice I've been getting charged. I immediately took off work the following Monday to go to the Carmel location to get it sorted out in person. I spoke with Dawson who did not care to put any effort in whatsoever to assist me. He said the system didn't show me coming in to cancel and that sales employees can't cancel memberships. Well maybe the sales employees should be trained on not offering to cancel memberships. He refuses to give me a refund because I cannot produce the receipt that Rebecca failed to give me when I cancelled. Apparently Rebecca was never authorized to cancel memberships, she is supposed to put in a note (which she didn't do either) and the operations manager goes in the system and cancels the accounts with notes at some point (highly unlikely, given my experience). Dawson didn't care to explore any other avenues to resolve my issue, nor exercise his discretion of being the operational manager to help someone who is clearly in a unique situation caused by the negligence of his employees there. He acknowledged that I haven't scanned into the facility in months, but that wasn't good enough. I fully intended to cancel my membership in August. My intentions were understood and entertained by an active employee, however Dawson at the LA Fitness in Carmel doesn't care to remedy the situation by refunding me. I remember a world where the customer was always right. Well now, we live in a world where the customer is responsible for negligence of the employees.
