Last night, seven vehicles , including a federal homeland security vehicle, were broken into at the LA Fitness location on Covington Highway in Dekalb County, Georgia. This wasn't an isolated incident. This along with the cleanliness issues have lingered for several years now at this LA Fitness location. What's most disturbing is there seems to be very little action being taken to make the location safe or clean. read more

This gym makes too much money to be over crowded .. the greeters at check in usually don't have manners and are not polite. Don't go to the gym after 5:30 pm there will be barely any parking spaces and lot of gym rats lolly gaging and having conversations instead of working out . Also this gym is proportionately smaller than most la fitness"s there's only few elliptical that actually work and most treadmills will be used up. read more

I've been coming to this gym for about a month now so I think it's safe for me to write a review of my experience. I definitely do not think it deserves the 2.5 star rating it has right now due to someone giving them 1 star. Overall I would give it 4 stars but I'll give them an extra star to make up for the other review. Parking here can be a little tough around rush hour and even sometimes on the weekend. Once you park and go in, the reps at the front desk are ok. They're not super friendly but they're not rude in my experience. The gym itself is big and beautiful. It has a very nice pool. The highest it gets is 4.5 ft. There's a jacuzzi. I haven't been in it but it looks clean. Remember to bring your own towel. The locker room is clean and taken care. They have tons of cardio machines, A basketball court, a fitness class room, Lot's of free weights and my new favorite: a cycling room. Thanks to classes like Marvin's and Donalds, I've gone from a cycling hater to a lover.. The music is great and it really keeps me motivated. I'm really glad that I decided to unfreeze my account and start back at this newer location. read more

It's decent for what it is. I've got a multi-city pass for their clubs, and (until I move in a few months) this location is probably the nearest one to me that has some semblance of COVID mitigation strategies. The employees for the most part wear masks (I mean, a lot of times they are under their chins), and every other machine is blocked off (though over half of the cardio machines don't have working TVs). The employees are decent as far as friendliness, and the clientele is exactly what you would expect on Panola Rd. There is a good selection of weight machines, free weights, snack bar, pool, sauna, and cardio equipment. They recently started regulating how you request a sanitizer bottle since folks were taking them and leaving them everywhere. Be prepared for paper towel dispensers to be empty and sinks in the locker room not to work. For the past few months, ONE sink in the locker room actually runs water and ONE has a working soap dispenser (they aren't the same sink). I finally figured out why...the young lad that does the janitorial work is usually A) in a corner on his phone, B) trying to holler at one of the female patrons, or C) actually playing around on the gym equipment. read more

This gym has gotten worse and worse. Not only to things stay broken for months (i.e. the hot tub, bathroom stalls) but the lack of staff leaves them unable to keep up with cleaning and restocking the supplies. People rarely put back the equipment, leaving it all over the floor and half the time you can't get the size weights you want because they're missing/in limited supply. One time, I forgot my phone to check in and planned to give the front desk guy my phone number to look up. Except he was too much talking to even notice me standing there. The guy he was talking to pointed me out after awhile. The front desk guy turned, looked at me and turned back to his conversation! I just walked in without checking in. Smh. Today I couldn't even take my regular Zumba class because the fire alarm had been going off for over two hours. Two HOURS! And the staff are just casually standing around shrugging their shoulders. It's outrageous. It's a gym. People pay money to workout here. The overall lack of investment in the very people that pay to keep the doors open is appalling. Do better, LA Fitness. read more

Absolutely filthy, Trash everywhere, debris in the parking lot, never any sanitizer in the sanitation areas. A lot of the equipment is old and does not work. I've been a member at this location for over six year and it's gone down hill. read more

I try and give this location the benefit of the doubt because it's a nationwide business located in the predominantly black south Dekalb community. The problem is the apathetic approach by the staff and management of this location. For example they seem to have a " we'll get to fix it eventually. That mindset is seen throughout this location. From the broken doors in the men's locker room to the yet to be serviced security lockers on the main floor. It's been weeks since they have been out of service. The apathy appears to extend to the gym goers as well. While I'm sure some have inquire about repairs, we keep on coming and paying our dues. read more

I used to like this gym... they recently remodeled... which now they look like every LA fitness everywhere else in the world. They started all these new policies... you can't Bring a bag with you on the floor... you can't bring the free wights to use on the turf. Not the best customer service. It was my first time here and they weren't welcoming at all. very unfriendly staff and only offered to do a tour. As a customer, you should do that regardless so that new customers know what the facility is about. Staff didn't even carry any type of conversation to get to know what the customer is looking for. Hopefully the other La fitness locations aren't like this or I'll have to find another gym to workout in. equipment was ok, people don't wipe down the area. I seen someone use a bench and didn't wipe it down. I can understand if you use a towel, but you should still wipe I down. That's just unsanitary. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I hear this location can get extremely packed during "peak" hours and can be a meat market. If you're into that type of thing, then you'll probably still love it. Personally, I attend during the "off" hours, when there are like 20 folks in the entire place and it's fabulous! Here's what I like about this gym: *Looks Great--it's still fairly new and shiny and most importantly, CLEAN *Well Equipped--everything you need for a great workout can be found here and no broken equipment *Nicely Organized--the ellipticals, treadmills and other cardio equipment are upstairs and weight equipment/classes are downstairs *Two levels--I like the separation...refer to previous bullet *Beautiful Pool--I'm looking forward to taking lessons, although I will mention that the pool is at the front door, so everyone coming into the gym will see you and Vice Versa. *Ample Parking--extra large lot is a plus *Good Staff--everyone I have encountered has been nice If you get a good membership deal, this place is a winner! I joined here a few months ago instead of going back to Planet Fitness. It is worth every single extra penny (and I don't have a lot of those right now). I love that they have a pool, sauna and jacuzzi. I don't use the amenities much but like that they're there. I also love the smoothie cafe. Truly healthy smoothies! (Which honestly really shocked me. I guess I was too used to bagels and pizza at Planet Fitness). The staff are very professional as well. It feels like a more grown up environment than PF. Like people are trying to get healthy FOR REAL. At the same time I don't feel judged for not having a perfect body. I've been to multiple locations around Atlanta and enjoyed each experience. They just ran a $0 joining fee special and I added my husband! Date night at the gym coming right up. Lol read more

Bring your water bottle and plenty of towels. The personal trainers here will give you a good workout. There's a lot of fun classes to fit your schedule. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Their open at 5am which is great for those who like to work out before heading to the office .There is a kids club at this location my children are my motivation to get up every Saturday morning. You should not have a headache after water aerobics workouts. My friend and I, seniors and members of Silver Sneakers, had the worst attitude experience this morning, 9/6/2019, with LA Fitness "manager" Emily Smith, after our VERY CROWDED (about 90 people) Aqua class on Covington Highway, Lithonia, GA. We asked an employee for a suggestion box, but Emily stepped in--VERY rudely--and let us know that our suggestion for more Aqua classes WILL NOT even be considered as an option. She said, "I make these decisions for LA Fitness." Then, she dismissed us by turning her back to us without giving us direction for making suggestions to LA Fitness. What a poor example for the other employees who also witnessed this unacceptable customer "no service" behavior. Needless to say, I will tell everyone I know about this experience. But, what I really want to know is if members in other gym locations experience such a nasty attitude from those "managers"? read more

I've been going to this gym since may. Overall, I like the place. A good selection of new equipment & the cardio machines all have personal TVs. Moving here from Las Vegas, it really doesn't measure up to my old gym, but I'm trying to move on lol their hours are a bit limiting, as I often like to go to the gym late at night & have trouble getting in a good work out before they close (sorry, lived in a 24hr town for the past 7yrs!) I also wish the snack bar was open if the gym is open, I'd buy a lot more protein shakes but it always seems to be closed when I am there. The one I have managed to get was delicious though! The staff is all pretty friendly. I did one training session with Marlin a few weeks ago & he definitely knows what he is doing. I have yet to make it to a group fitness class, use the pool or jacuzzi & I don't have kids, so I can rate those things. read more

What garbage customer service -- from the "manager" named Emily no less! Here's a recount of today's encounter: I came in at lunch time to find out about signing up. I'm wearing a summery blouse, jeans, and slip on flats, so obviously I'm not here to workout. The front desk clerk tries to check me in anyway. The front desk was chaotic and I wanted to get some information and then come back when it wasn't so busy so I asked for the manager. She comes up and says to the guy 'Did you tell her I was busy?' and then told me to have a seat. 30 minutes later, I walk up to her sitting at her computer and asked her how much longer she'd have me waiting? This moron rolls her eyes and tells me she forgot I was waiting and walks back to the front desk (5 steps). She then rudely turns around and tells me that she is at the front desk. I told her that I can see her. She asks if I will come over there. I told her if that's what she wants me to do. She then mutters 'this is ridiculous', grabs a clipboard and walks off to hold a lengthy conversation with a person in membership. She later returns and barks that I can talk to someone in membership. I left. Granted, when I entered LA Fitness (at the corner of Covington Highway and Panola Rd), she was in the midst of getting her ear chewed off by an angry customer at the front desk, she also blew it with me, the prospective customer. She presents herself as a person who has not availed herself of the stress relieving, body toning equipment and classes at her facility. She has a nasty attitude, thin skin, and a very unprofessional countenance. Emily is the antithesis of everything I imagine when I hear the title manager. She has created a bottleneck where simple inquiries result in a quagmire at the front desk. Three other people, including a customer, offered assistance and a smile. Emily offered enough attitude and negativity to run me out of the establishment. I can't imagine why she's heading up a sales team with the goal of attaining and retaining customers. She wasted my time and is over her head from what I observed. I will not join just to potentially be stressed out by the manager when a need arises. Get it together! read more

BRANDY the custodian is ABSOLUTELY the WORST.. don't go before 7 because it won't be clean and Brandy will be talking on her phone or leisurely walking around day dreaming. You can expect a lil more out of the Team in General after 9 when Emily the manager comes in BUT still expect weights to be EVERYWHERE and the machines DIRTY.. 5am -9am Team NO CUSTOMER Service and once again the ATTITUDE and lack of Urgency that I run into EVERY morning with Brandy is ridiculous. read more

I do enjoy the LA fitness that we now have access to over in this area. The one thing that I really wish they had at this location was a bathing suit spinner. It's hard to dry your suit after a swim and I have to throw it in the trunk on the way to work. The staff are very friendly, and the cleaning staff do a fairly good job. It would be nice if they would repair the shower stalls that have broken soap dispensers, but this is not a major issue. read more

My review is based off the facility as a whole. I tried this gym for the first time last night. I heard it is normally crowded but it wasn't bad at all. Parking was plentiful. Location is easy to find. Gym was clean and spacious. Staff was friendly. Went to the smoothie bar and the cashier was very nice and engaging. I didn't catch her name. I went for a Zumba class. I have done Zumba on and off for several years. I was disappointed with this particular class. There are several instructors there so I can only speak for the class I attended. The instructor didn't teach the dance moves as all other Zumba instructors do. The class was filled with regulars and it seemed as though it was catered toward them. She didn't really demonstrate what was to be done. The regulars seem to love and enjoy her though. She had great energy and a very enthusiastic spirit. I will say that it was definitely a great workout. The instructor started off with lots of squats and cardio work. My body was aching before I even left. That is the kind of workout that I enjoy. read more

TERRIBLE, they advertise that the pool is warm, but it was never warm, always cold. I have neuropathy/Arthritis, so my dr recommended water aerobics, again the pool is cool to cold, and so I thought that I would do the hot tub and do some of the movements from there, since the temp could be adjusted but it was always perfect temp until it started filling up with creepy old men and menopausal women (just full of attitude). Overall LA Fitness is convenient because there is one nearly everywhere. This is one of my favs because it is one that I visit most frequently. My friends and I sometimes gym hop or share gyms just to see which one is top notch. This location is one of the newer locations so there is hardly any non working equipment, it is very clean, the locker rooms are nice and the staff is friendly but not too pushy as I have seen at other locations. This location is convenient to my kids school so before I pick them up I can get in a quick 30- 45 min workout. My only complaint is the parking. Ok, so not major but the majority of the parking in front of the building is gone because that section of the parking lot is small, but the gym is in a plaza with other shops so there is plenty of parking if you don't mind walking across the parking lot for warm up. Also they now offer swim lessons at this location for an additional cost. (PLUS) read more
