Ok this review is specifically for the classes included with the membership. I really enjoy Mauricio's Zumba classes, but there's one ongoing issue that honestly should be addressed by the gym staff. Some members constantly save large sections of the front row for friends who don't arrive until class is about to start. Today, Friday class for example, one lady used like 8 water bottles to reserve spots for people who showed up right as class began. Meanwhile, people who actually arrived early couldn't use those spaces. It's honestly surprising to see such territorial behavior from grown women in a fitness class...embarrassing. I understand saving one spot for a friend, but this has become excessive and very territorial. The classes get packed, and some of the behavior feels less like a fitness class and more like auditions for Dancing With the Stars. We get it... everyone has their favorite spot, but don't be selfish. The class should feel welcoming and fair for everyone. I hope the gym staff will address this so all members can enjoy the classes equally. I can also see how new clients could feel discouraged from trying these classes when faced with this type of behavior. read more

Do not ask Destiny, the operations manager, for any help. This is a great gym, but I can see why this location receives poor reviews for customer service. Destiny is a horrible manager who doesn't understand what customer service is. If you have any issues with anything, go to the Asst Manager, Adam, or staff members Victor or Carla - or Andrew in membership - they are all great and helpful. On a Thursday evening, I went to the Oceanside location and needed my app to be reset because I'm using a new device. I was told that the manager onsite would be the only person to do that for me - and in person. Victor, Adam and Carla were extremely helpful and pleasant but they couldn't assist because the fix required a manager. Victor wrote a note for Destiny to call me back the next day, but she never did. I called the gym Friday and explained to Alyssa, who picked up the phone, what happened the night before and before I drove to the gym, I wanted to make sure Destiny would still be there. She said yes, but she put me on hold to get Destiny. Seven minutes went by and Alyssa came back and said Destiny told her to tell me what to do - the thing I had already tried the night before with Victor and Adam. So rather than get on the phone with me, she had Alyssa play the messenger - a back and forth for 15 minutes. I explained all that I had already done, so I was put back on hold. Alyssa came back and said Destiny said there's no other way they can help me. Huh? Alyssa said I can call tech support, so I said that'd be fine. She proceeded to give me an email address, so I asked how is the email supposed to help when she just said someone could help me on the phone. She found a phone number, I called the phone number, but the guy on the other end (tech support) said I shouldn't have even been given that number because they only help instructors, not members. So I called Oceanside back. Destiny picked up this time. When I told her I was given a number that customers "aren't allowed to call", she said Alyssa gave me the wrong number. When I asked for the correct number, Destiny said there is no number customers can call. When I asked her how does a paying customer get assistance then when it comes to matters like this, she said, "It's the end of the line. We can't help you." She said there's something wrong my phone. What? It's a new phone. I also told her that her staff said she'd call me back but she never did. She said she was going to get back to me at some point, but hadn't had the chance yet - even though it was already 4:40pm and she leaves at 5:00pm. When I asked her for a manager's name, a regional manager's name, any other name so I can call them myself and ask how to fix the reset issue, she said, "I don't think they'll be able to help you." I said, "How do we know unless I ask? There must be someone who can help because I can't imagine for a large company like LA Fitness, there's no path for customers to talk to someone who can provide assistance." Why do I have to explain to a so-called "operations manager" how customer service works? When I asked her again for a regional manager's name, VP, or anyone else, she then said, "Well, I started to look for someone for you but you started berating me." Huh?? I told her I wasn't berating her but rather, I was trying to find someone who could assist, but that she was clearly refusing to help. All I wanted to do was get my app fixed. She continued to interrupt and talk over me then she finally said very rudely, "I'm not going to argue with you!" and hung up on me. Very mature. Bravo. I called the Encinitas location and Christian, the General Manager, there was able to help me in less than 5 minutes. He knew the issue I was running into and knew exactly how to resolve it. He apologized for Destiny's behavior. I had to call another location because Destiny in Oceanside doesn't know what she's doing. Destiny needs to be fired. I told Adam he should be Manager instead. But I digress. But seriously, stay away from Destiny. She doesn't belong in the service sector. read more

I love this place. It's rare that a type of equipment isn't available, there are way more cardio machines than there are people using them at all times, the racquetball courts are the bomb, they always have classes that my wife loves, and the gym is always clean and well maintained. I've been a member since 2022 and I have zero reason to want to look elsewhere. Rates are great and so is the service. Shout out to Anders the membership manager and Alyssa at the front desk. Need to crank or grind out a workout? You can do that here. The equipment thinks it's a figurative and literal idea though! I've recently found a lot of the equipment to be pretty faulty. And of course it happens to be every first machine that I chose to work out on too. That takes time away from me starting to get my groove going ...because of needing to switch machines in order to find something that didn't sound like it was dying. Once I do find a functioning machine then I can get going but still some have glitches like "resume workout" when I was actually still moving. Yet it kept popping up as a warning anyhow. I just ignore it and kept on going. I've contemplated using the pool but every time I've looked over at it...it was obviously very busy. So I've never utilized it here. Staffers were nice in greeting us and saying goodbye when we were leaving. So that was nice. I understand they are now trying to service the gym members that would frequent the neighboring & newly closed LA Fitness. I recognize those regular peeps! Kudos for them for staying a part of the gym & physically active community. Things were not as clean on my most recent visit as compared to previous visits here. So that was disappointing as well. You can see in my videos as an example of wipes and food on the ground at and around different machines. *I found a couple of completely random jewelry pieces on the same day... so if you are missing something check with the front desk. The gym is nice and racketball courts are too! I would like to use this location. However, the sauna in men's locker room smells like something died in there... IT SMELLS GROSS to me. Im not exactly sure what it is, or how they can get rid of the smell. But they should do something!!! It smells toxic. The Vista location sauna does not smell this way at all. I just wanted to take the time to write a review about this great gym. I have been a member for a little over a year. Every time I travel, I am even more grateful. It is clean and organized and I so appreciate the staff who are working so hard to keep it that way. I see them every day I am there (4-5 days a week) and they are constantly cleaning or organizing. I appreciate that the dumbbells and equipment are organized as well and that there is a very good supply of all. So frustating at other gyms when you are searching for what you need or there is only one machine where this gym has 6. What is also great are the members. In terms of cleanliness l, I believe this location has been the cleanest gym in Oceanside that I have been to. It was actually the reason why I chose to be a member compared to 4 other gyms I checked out. The cleaning did somewhat go down little from last year though but still better compared to others. No matter what time of day I always see someone doing housekeeping so that is a plus. And they are on it when a machine is down! This isn't our typical LA Fitness. It is in a convenient location. I bring my 8.5 year old son who generally stays on his phone to the Kids Klub and each time I've checked him in there is a weird vibe in there. It seems like they aren't really paying attention to the kids and they don't have their system together either. Other La fitness gyms I go to they check you in at the front desk and it's one fluid process and they are super friendly and happy to have you at Kids Klub. This location has well over 20 kids mainly and the staff are standing like statues at front desk not interacting. Every time I've dropped my son off I'm very friendly and I get this feeling as if we are not wanted there. Today he was there for an hour. I came back and he was playing with another kid. I'm thinking, Great, maybe he's acclimating and it's not as much of a cluster as I thought. I've never seen such a disorganized disorderly Kids Klub. The girl at the front desk who's not even paying attention to the baby she's holding and has a kid throwing a water bottle towards me which spills all over the floor as she tells me essentially what a problem my son was today. I interrupt her to tell her he's spilling a large pile of water all over the floor (that could be hazardous) and she's basically like don't worry about it brushing me off. Mind you, I listened and we left and I spoke to my son for the full details. He stated," They are always on their phones there and not watching the kids,"a kid he was trying to include grabbed a ball from him and got mad. The staff wasn't watching them and blamed my son for the other child's behavior. They threatened my son that he would be banned for week if he didn't get out of area where the employees were at since he was following a friend he made in Kids Klub. They failed to mention to me they spoke to my son this way. We will not be coming back to this gym. Their Kids Klub is a wreck. There was other things I noticed about their Kids Klub other days. For example trying to close early and paging parents back before they close in the am, etc. Kids items strewn all over and I told them and they didn't care so I picked it up for them. They just seemed very careless and as if they didn't want to be there employee wise. **Also, for the gym itself. Every other LA Fitness we go to I always see them cleaning it. Constantly. Not once have I even seen a cleaning person at this location. Even the standard cleaning wipes that go into the LA fitness holder used to self wipe down the machine they don't bother to properly refill. They leave an half open bag of wipes out all can reach their hands in to pull out since they don't care to refill the actual wipe holder. Lastly, their room for their classes was subpar and smelled unsurprisingly as well, as the classes themselves were not worth the time. read more

Joined LA Fitness after being a long term 24 Hour Fitness customer. I have to say that this gym is loaded with new machines, is very bright and inviting and the staff all seem pretty nice. I'm really enjoying their set up and if you play basketball, they have a nice court and courts to play racquetball. And they have an abundance of cardio machines. I love going to LA fitness. I had a break in my membership for personal reasons and when I was ready to rejoin LA fitness I gave them a call. I was connected to Anders, who is the club manager at the location on Vista in Oceanside. Anders went over all the fees and membership privileges of each. In the end of our conversation I let him know I would probably wait for one of their special promotions and thanked him. He was very nice and understanding and exhibited exceptional customer oriented skills. Anders didn't forget about me, and later called me back letting me know he and Jaylyn (whom works with him), had the promotion deal I was looking for. The equipment is always poorly maintained, when issues are brought up management deflects responsibly to someone else and the issues never get fixed. The only reason why I still go here is because LA is a big chain. If I had other options close I would take them. As someone who handles material and inventory this place can never order enough wipes and is consistently out of wipes, soap and paper towels. The treadmills are very outdated and are not maintained so it is nearly impossible to find one that you're able to jog or run on. Last time I brought this up one of the younger likely high school workers gave me some sarcastic remarks right in front of his managers. Most staff are friendly but incompetent and just showing up for a paycheck. read more

The weekend hours at LA Fitness Oceanside are a problem. Pre-covid, they used to open at 6am on Saturday and Sunday. Post covid it changed to 8am and never went back to earlier. 8am is late for a gym to open on weekends and is causing a crowding issue for equipment. When I am waiting for them to open, many members are there with me all agreeing 8am is too late. Please return to a 6am opening! This review is based on their cancellation procedures. It's challenging to close an account with this gym, so it's just something to be vigilant about and aware of should you decide to join it. I closed my account in April in writing, yet was continued to be charged in part for several months afterwards. The after much back and forth the offered resolution was to be refunded 50% of the erroneous charges, and getting to the point where a 100% refund was offered was such a headache and involved so much gaslighting by the customer service representative, that it barely seemed worth it. Not worth the hassle and low treatment in my opinion. I know why companies do this (ie make it as hard as possible to cancel their services), but LA Fitness is beyond the pale. read more

Really bad customer service, no one ever says hi when you walk in or bye when you leave. It feels like you're annoying the workers at the front desk when you scan your membership and they have to hold the little sensor up. The equipment is nice and the maintenance employees keep the gym very tidy and clean. We decided to try it one time and it was so overcrowded I couldn't even find a weight bench or a free cable machine. The membership people were nice. Amazing AMAZING gym. I was expecting to be dazzled but WOW. The team here was absolutely outstanding with their customer service. They really seemed to enjoy what they do and had great interactions with their guests. The facility is spotless and has sanitary wipes to clean the equipment after use. The machines are some of the newer technology that I don't see everywhere so that was a nice addition to the experience. I froze my account because of travel. Turns out they cancelled my account so I had to apply for a new membership. Manager tried hard to get me a good deal keeping my old monthly fee but I was still looking at first month last month and yearly subscription fees. They basically gaslighted me for not taking up any of their offers which were only valid if I signed up right there and then. I like the gym and the pool but do not enjoy being bamboozled and treated like a cheapo when they were the ones who made the mistake in the first place. Predatory, overpriced, and downright terrible experience. I just moved to the area and decided to check out LA Fitness Oceanside--and it was hands down the worst gym experience I've had. From the moment you walk in, it's clear this place is built on aggressive selling tactics rather than actual health and wellness. They constantly try to upsell you on overpriced group classes and "amenities" I never asked for, while refusing to provide personal training unless you buy into their other packages. What legitimate gym doesn't offer straightforward personal training? Instead, they funnel you into group fitness classes that are wildly overpriced and then tack on insanely high personal training fees on top of that. They're trying to be Equinox without the facilities, prestige, or even basic staffing to back it up. The employee turnover here is awful--trainers come and go like a revolving door, which says everything you need to know about the company's culture. Of the staff that stick around, one of the worst was a tall white guy named Anders. Rude, cocky, and with zero customer service skills, he's a walking red flag for how little this gym values its members. Even more concerning, I noticed what looked like predatory practices targeting elderly members. The sales reps were pushing older folks, many of whom looked like they should be in a senior wellness program, not high-intensity classes--into overpriced memberships and classes they could barely manage. It felt exploitative and honestly unethical. Bottom line: this is not a wellness-focused club. It's a sales trap disguised as a gym. If you want a place that cares about your health, your goals, and your money, look elsewhere. read more

I would be giving this location ZERO stars if I could. I had a deeply upsetting experience at the LA Fitness on Vista Way in Oceanside while attempting to activate a membership I had already purchased through Active & Fit Direct. I want to first say that Jacob at the front desk was wonderful, kind, patient, professional, and genuinely trying to help. Unfortunately, the situation changed when the General Manager, Anders, became involved. Anders was aggressive, dismissive, and hostile throughout the interaction. As a 63-year-old woman, I felt talked down to and bullied in a way that was intimidating and inappropriate. I calmly explained that this location is still listed as participating in Active & Fit and suggested there may be a communication issue between corporate offices. When I stated that I would be reporting the incident to corporate due to how I was being treated, Anders raised his hand, waved me off, and told me to "f@ck off," then walked away. I've lived in this community for over 25 years, and several friends were planning to join this location (including paying extra for Pilates reformer classes). After hearing about this experience, none of us will be joining. I strongly caution others, especially older adults and women, to be aware of how customers may be treated at this location when problems arise. read more

I got a 3 day guest past online. When I got there the membership "advisor " showed me around, during the tour, I told him I was currently at planet fitness. He said how much better la was, that the equipment was better and it was less crowded. The place was packed, I know their Vista location closed so maybe more people from there are going. It was hard to use all the machines I wanted, and the locker room is very old and outdated. He then tried to get me to sign up right away. I said I would try the gym out first, so he kept my id to come back after I worked out. After my workout he was very pushy and aggressive trying to get me to join right then. I told him no thanks and I just wanted the pass multiple times. He got visibly angry, and asked if I couldn't sign up because it wasn't my pay day!? Then I asked where is my 3 days pass? He glared at me and said it would be in my email. That was yesterday and I still have not received an email. Very unprofessional, hopefully that is not how the owners want their employees to treat their customers. read more

Misleading Sales, Dishonest Billing & Zero Accountability at LA Fitness Oceanside I initially chose LA Fitness Oceanside because their website advertised personal training. When I enrolled, I made it crystal clear that I was signing up for that specific service. I was assured they had personal trainers, but in reality, they only offered group training--something I was never told upfront. At the same time, they aggressively pushed their new Pilates program, which hadn't started yet. I was told that if I signed up immediately, I'd lock in a special $99/month rate before prices increased. They know exactly how to pressure customers into signing up for things they don't need, and I fell for it. The Bait-and-Switch on Personal Training When I called to book my personal trainer, I was blindsided. They informed me that their so-called "personal training" was actually group coaching following a preset methodology. This is NOT personal training--it's a group workout that doesn't provide individualized support. I tried it once--it was ineffective for my needs. Without real personal training, I had no guidance on how to get started--so I stopped going altogether. Billing Issues & Their "Account on Hold" Trick Later, I had a small accident and was advised to avoid exercise for a while. Their website offered a "Put Your ACCOUNT on Hold" option, implying it covered all charges. Nowhere did it mention that Pilates would continue being billed separately. The next month, I was charged $99 for Pilates--despite my account being on hold! Attempting to Resolve the Issue - More Lies & No Follow-Through I immediately called LA Fitness Oceanside. A staff member informed me that Pilates was separate and hadn't been paused. I explained what had happened and specifically requested that my Pilates be put on hold right then and there. I also requested a refund, since I had followed their instructions and believed my account was fully on hold. He told me he would "take care of it" and call me back. He never did. Life got busy, and since I had already requested the pause, I assumed it was handled. I was OK with losing the $99 at this point. Discovering the Fraudulent Charges Months Later Fast forward six months. While preparing my finances for tax season, I discovered that LA Fitness had continued charging me $99/month for Pilates--every single month. This time, I went in person. I was told: * There was no proof I had ever called (my phone records showed I did) * They claimed they had done nothing wrong--and that I had no proof otherwise. * They would not refund me for any of it. At that point, I called LA Fitness corporate customer service. Their initial response? There's nothing that can be done. Final Resolution - A Partial Refund & Getting Out for Good I pushed back and wouldn't take no for an answer. After speaking with a supervisor, they offered me three months of refunds--less than half of what they owed me. At this point, I just wanted out. As soon as the refund hit my account, I canceled everything. The Bottom Line LA Fitness Oceanside is all about sales, not service. They mislead customers, make cancellations deliberately difficult, and refuse to take accountability for their mistakes. Their "personal training" is a scam, their billing practices are deceptive, and their customer service is non-existent and designed to wear you down until you give up. I will never set foot in an LA Fitness again. If you care about honesty and fair business practices, avoid LA Fitness at all costs. read more

This gym is large, well ventilated, and has plenty of equipment where even the busy times doesn't get too overcrowded. So if you're looking for just a gym to use some equipment, this will do the trick. When I first joined years ago, they were building a Pilates room that never opened (at least within 6 months of when it was supposed to open). I stopped going and recently when I came back, the Pilates was replaced with a cryo room. They also replaced the basketball court with a PRT room that they use for small group classes (limit 8 per class) that are supposed to be akin to personal training. Don't ask me what PRT stands for, I don't know and the employees couldn't tell me either. The PRT classes are similar to the exercises of F45 with the pace of OrangeTheory. We wanted personal training with focus on form to prevent injury, but they don't do a lot of form correction. It's still a good class, but just a much higher price point than what I can get in other group fitness classes. Be careful what you pay for there. All the horror stories about the charges for personal training you find online are pretty accurate. We have been waiting over three weeks for a refund on the enrollment fee that was supposed to be waived for January, and every time I talk to someone, they say they can't process the refund, and the people who can process the refund are always conveniently not available no matter what day or time I call or visit. When I finally track them down, I've been told multiple times it's been processed and will take 3-5 business days, it's been three weeks of nothing but lies. read more
