I see a bunch of low ratings for this club, and I don't understand why. I was a member of this gym for years but discontinued my membership during COVID. I spent a lot of money on building out a home gym but eventually became less and less active. I stopped working out all together in 2025 but found inspiration in 2026 to get some help. I got a basic gym membership and elected to do a fitness assessment as part of that. I met with Eric Ingram who heads up their personal training program. The guy was an enigma from the start. I went in expecting him to sell me on the gym, but that's not what happened at all. He was pretty blunt about what works at the club and what doesn't - as well as how I can maximize the effectiveness of my workouts. I will say that I was humbled during the assessment. I sit at a desk all day for my job and didn't realize how atrophied some of my muscles had become. I also didn't realize how complex our muscles are with the different layers that all work together. I hurt more in 25 minutes without using any weights than I did in the 3 weeks prior to my assessment using the different machines available in the club. That being said, I liked the assessment a lot - It helped me know what I need to work on and he recommended a few exercises. I was so impressed that I ponied up for some personal training for a few months to help relearn all that I had forgotten. Would choose zero stars if I could. this is the absolute worst gym I have ever tried to go to and workout at. they are Incompetent, Immoral, Disrespectfu, Lazy, Money Hungry and Inconsiderate. I don't like to throw the word bully around loosely but the LA Fitness team located in Alafaya are very distasteful. I'm not saying that the environment is bad but the management team are only competent when they hear you want to upgrade your plan. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy does this place smell so damn funky!? I have been in dozens of gyms in my day, all have sweaty people working out, and none reeks of stank ass and sweaty feet as bad as this place. It's new(ish), modern, has tons of equipment, a pool, racquetball, etc. It's beautiful. I prefer group classes when at the gym and so far I've taken 2. A yoga class and a zumba class. Neither was amazing. The yoga instructor was the last person to arrive and the first person out the door. He wasn't keen on helping people in the class, giving encouragement, and didn't really seem to want to be there. The Zumba instructor - poor lady - was a substitute called in at the last minute. Her music didn't work, so some was off of the system and others were off of her cell phone. She was incredibly difficult to follow and gave neither verbal nor nonverbal cues to follow. I'd never take her class again but will try the day/time again since she was a sub. Hopefully the normal lady will be better. Overall, the gym is pretty and they have options for everyone. It just smells like *ish and their group fitness classes are lacking. If you don't care about either of those things, than this place is great! read more

Two words describe this location: organized mess. The cardio focused machines are on the top floor, minus the stairmasters that happen to be by the racquetball courts, yes there's more than one. The dance room for the Zumba, Abs Core, boot camp classes, and a basketball court. They even have a smoothie shop inside which is a nice perk. The positive stops here. The way this location has their machines makes it cramped. It's organized by having the same, if not similar machines near each other, so users don't have to wait for one in particular, but they're very close! I had a person bump into my elbow while on the abs machine, and he was just getting off a machine next to me. Yeah that close. Now the free weight section is the huge mess! If you arrive after 5pm, don't bother with the free weights. The space is very small and you will either bump into another person, or interfere with their motion of exercise. Maybe it's better during a slower period of the day, but there's too much equipment, in such small space. read more

When I signed with LA Fitness with Ross C (manager at the time for this location) he said he would waive the first annual fee and to come back in to get a refund once it posted. To be safe, I got it in writing just in case he went against his word later. I went in today to get a refund as the annual fee posted. I was greeted by the nice associate in the front who referred me to a different associate who told me they didn't waive annual fees. When I told him I had it in writing from Ross C, he said I would have to drive to Oviedo as this would not be honored at that store even though my membership is solely with that store. When I told him what if Ross C quit would he then honor it here he said "I could care less". I then showed my signed piece of paper to the manager who told me he would refund it. Due to the sheisty and shady employees I dealt with earlier I also cancelled my membership. I asked for the paper back once he said he refunded the annual fee and he said why I said "why would I trust you refunded me if you weren't going to honor it from the beginning". I still going to LA fitness in Waterford Lakes because it was closer to my house, but they did not have the friendliest of staff know where they personable, nor was it clean. Until Kedrian a new manager that join the team a little over a month ago I started making some changes. I know this is a different staff now however, very friendly a lot more personable and the gym is clean all the time.. I finally can call is Jen my home because when I walk in people say hi to me, they call me by my first name and they say bye to me. These little things mean a lot to me and a lot of other members in the gym. I'm up for renewal soon and if you ask me a few months ago, I was not going to renew and go somewhere else, but having Kedrian there is the reason why I will renew Wednesday. Also shout out to the daycare team. Those girls are phenomenal they go above and beyond having fun with those kids. They deserve the praise as well. LA Fitness , you need more managers like.Kedrian. The place is ok. The others LA gyms have better machines. But what I really don't like, is that they offer you a first "free training" of 15 mins! Just to try to push you to pay for a trainer, I said no and other guy joined to try to push me too. Too crowded, both in the sauna and in the weight room. Constantly people asking if I'm "done with something yet" and I'd be surprised when I saw someone clean the sweat on the machine they used. Staff will treat you like fine china UNTIL you try to get rid of your membership, or try to get someone to pick up the mess on the weight floor. Disappointing. Has a pretty face but it's not always about the looks of your staff don't give a rats *** about you. It doesn't matter how the inside looks if you have a terrible staff. The front desk staff are rude and so unfriendly. Today there was no one to open the gym so there was a mob outside waiting over an hour. Then they had the nerve to make everyone wait while they booted up the computer and made everyone scan in! Read the room people! The sales people are really pushy and most of the trainers are out of shape. Only good thing is the price is decent. read more

So we just bought our memberships and after paying a $300 sign up fee... we walk in for our first day at the gym and a huge ass banner it outside that says "$0 membership sign up fee" mother... F...!!!!! Anyway, I'm 17 weeks pregnant and have been nervous to get back into working out since sometimes throwing the ball for my dog hurts my belly on the side around the ligaments and I haven't quite figured out how not to move to not feel weird rubber band like sensations. But I went in anyway to give it a go on a Thursday at 8:30 cycle and abs class. The instructor was so awesome and I stuck out as a newbie completely... she helped me set up my bike, the other people there helped my get my bike in place and gave me pointers along the class (like keeping your feet flat, hard!) When my feet flew out of the pedal straps she stopped to help me along with it. I felt super comfortable, welcome and excited to return. Definitely bring a water bottle, a towel or over shirt and don't be late! There were only 8-10 people in the class I did which I loved (not a crowd person) so I will continue going early on week days to avoid the crowds I hear gather on weekends. read more

I officially have beef with this LA Fitness. Here's why. I got a new credit card. When they charged my old credit card and were denied, they changed from a gym to annoying debt collectors. You're no longer a valued customer, you're a nuisance that needs to be dealt with. They're going to give you a late fee. So that would be OK except that they called me repeatedly on my day off and relatively early in the morning. They left a voicemail when I decided to sleep in on my day off instead of dealing with them at their convenience. And then 5 minutes later they called me again... and then 15 seconds after that. I moderately tolerated their dirty locker rooms, their smelly pool, and their degrading equipment. I only barely tolerated some of their pushy staff that tried to push personal training. If you're interested in this gym, just remember that the sign up fee is a scam that should be waived and that monthly prices should be as low as $30. 5 stars for finally renovating this location! I used to come to this gym for about two years but I switched to the UCF gym because I really didn't like the way this place used to smell. The place looks great with the renovations, they changed the floors in both levels and added new cardio and weight machines. This location is perfectly located near UCF and attracts a good mix of both young and older crowds. This gym is busy but I don't seem to run into too many bottle necks. read more

I joined LA Fitness Waterford December 2017. I signed up for personal training in December as well. Since then I have had 5 different trainers. Of the five only 1 was consistent with the personal training, taking measurements and weight. None of them worked on Saturday. I travel for work and sometimes Saturday is all I have. My current trainer had openings st 7 AM which was great until last week he said he was not going to be doing 7 AM anymore because he is working too many hours. I thought I was paying for a service and the trainer should be available when needed by the person paying not when they are ready to work. The upgrade done a couple of months ago is AWESOME. Love the look. However the locker room and bathroom still smells constantly. People don't wipe down machines. I have been sick 2 times as a result of the equipment being nasty. The Good: It's a pretty big place with plenty of machines and equipment to get a good workout. Plus they've got 4 racquetball courts. It's pretty clean. The Bad: Being in the middle of Waterford Lakes this place is busy, so you definitely wanna choose your times depending on how you like it. Us, we like it when it's a little more laid back with a lot less meat heads, so we go early mornings and on weekend afternoons. So, it's been a few years since my last review. Things have improved quite a bit in that time. The phenomenal Zumba instructors are the glue that keeps many ladies coming back to this location. Noelia, Jennise, Monica, and Enieda make the Zumba parties a sweaty good time!! (note, I only go to daytime classes). I dont use the locker rooms so I cant comment there. The front desk staff is friendly and efficient. I decided to try a personal trainer again. This time things went quite well. I felt good about the contract. I met with my trainer Ian, and he seemed knowledgeable. We met for a few weeks, then--I broke my foot in an unrelated incident. So I was away for two months. I came back and Ian picked right back up. He was able to help me do strengthening exercises for my foot an adjusted the workouts to accommodate. In my opinion, Ian is one of the best trainers in the facility--he's friendly, but not too much. He's professional, always on time and prepared. He knows his craft and keeps every workout interesting by adding changes and enhancements. Personal Trainer Prince was completely rude. I don't think he even has fitness/training education, seeing as he was flirting with his trainee while giving me a workout that I did not ask for. I want to lose weight, why was I doing muscle building exercises? This LA fitness is by far the NASTIEST and most crammed one that I have ever been to. I've been a LA member for almost 4 years now and unfortunately this is the only one in the area and I live by here. I could always drive 20 min out to go to another one, but that's just a waste of time and gas. The location in the waterford plaza pretty much has everyone in east Orlando and Avalon park go to. I think they should open another one in Avalon park. The weighs inside are always all over the floor, never returned to their proper locations and there are only 3 benches, one incline, and one decline with 2 squat racks and a power rack. Out of al the LAs, the equipment is terrible condition and old. For this LA, the amount of people that come in, they should be able to afford to update the equipment at least. read more

I visit Orlando several times a year and my friend lives pretty close to this LA fitness and is also a member so I tend to workout at this gym when I'm in town. It's pretty easy to get a guest pass which is nice. I saw some reviews saying it smells? I never noticed a smell, good or bad. I know they basically closed the gym for 2 weeks and re-did a lot; moved in and out some equipment, totally re-did the pool. I haven't been since they re-opened but I hear it's nice. It's a pretty popular gym so for all the negative reviews, there are still a lot of people that go. I find the gym to be sufficient for my workout needs. The one thing I'm not a big fan of are the benches. For flat bench dumbbell press, the middle of the bench has a gap (for changing it to an incline). I still can workout fine but if I had a preference, I wouldn't have that type of bench. Anyway, have a good workout! read more

At around 6:00pm I went to LA Fitness to get my daily workout in. Upon arrival I went into the area to drop my 18 month old daughter at the "Kids club" there are always two attendees in the room, one greeted me and the other seemed busy on her laptop. I left to workout out and about one hour later went back in get my daughter.... to find scratches and blood all over her face and her earring missing on that side .... upon asking what happened she says " oh I forgot to tell you... another girl scratched her but your daughter didn't scratch her back she just cried...." Couple things wrong here. 1. How do you forget something like this when she still has blood on her face and when I asked her how did you forget to tell me this she says " sorry about that." 2. Maybe if your other attendee was not on her laptop and actually watching the kids and working this could have been avoided 3. I am literally working out 10ft away from the kids club why not come get me??? 4. Why not clean the blood off her face with alcohol? I understand things happen but maybe it could have been avoided if the other person there was watching and paying attention. This is not a daycare and there is no reason a 18 month old should have ever gone through that! When you have someone watch over 10 kids put people in the Kids Club that have experience with other kids or actually enjoy it and are responsible not random people that will not even look at the kids because they are too busy texting and on laptops! I do not recommend this gym at all to anyone especially if you have kids!!!!! PS all the equipment is always occupied anyway. *update* I did speak to the manager Emily she was super nice and apologetic... however I have still cancelled my membership and will never be back. Don't waste your money here! I have been going to this LA fitness since February 2023 and never had a negative thing to say about the establishment or staff. Until today that is where I received horrible staff attitude and disrespect from the managers and gym manager. Over something very minor (a misunderstanding with the guest being allowed to workout whether me "the card holder" is there or not). The manager who from the get go had an attitude with me and my guest and continued the attitude, the whole time I was speaking to her. She then called her manager, who continued the same disrespectful and condescending tone. They made me feel like I was some kind of criminal who had broken the law. I was named and shamed in front of employees and other gym goers. All the while being gaslit to not have an attitude when I was perfectly calm and if I wasn't, I was matching their energy. It is filthy! The women's bathroom is always a mess. Holes in the walls, garbage all over the place. Clean Hygiene is definitely not practiced here. The class room is always dripping with sweat. No one bothers to mop or clean up between classes. It is a very beautiful area, but LA Fitness at Waterford is by far the nastiest gym I have visited since living here in Orlando. Crunch is by far the cleanest. This gym needs to hire more staff on hand to keep the place clean, and follow the health department guidelines on cleanliness. read more
