Lack of cleanliness, hygiene continues to be disgusting. Water fountain doesn't work, again, and is filled with bits & pieces of god knows what food pieces. Like someone got sick in it. Disgusting ... water in pool today was so oily feeling and murky you could hardly see anything under the water - hot tub was in same oily and murky condition. Several of the showers in women's locker room have no doors, the others that have doors are a filthy mess. Little or no ventilation in that locker room either. Several of the other local LA Fitness facilities have closed their pools so this location is now overcrowded. There is no sign of anyone cleaning the locker room or gym area. Filthy. Cardio equipment is frequently broken and they just remove the "scheduled for maintenance" signs. In 2 years, i have never seen less than three broken exercise bikes at a time. Cables break on machines. Padding on benches rips and i have never seen anything replaced. Staff turn over seems to be high. No staff does anything other than sit at their desks bshitting or staring at their phones. Management will say they are working on it, but nothing improves. The locker rooms are disgusting. Absolutely filthy. Cleaning is done during busy hours so they can vacuum properly and the mats are disgusting. Wipes for equipment havent been replenished in months. read more

Fix the air conditioning. Seriously how difficult is this? It fails every summer for several weeks at a time. 85 degrees in the studio where high intensity classes are held isn't acceptable. Not to mention all the broken exercise equipment. Update: 13 days later it's still hot, 82 degrees in the studio!! The showers in the women's locker room are in desperate need of repair. Only 3 out of 6 showers have running water. Hot water is only running in 2 out of those 3 showers. There are doors off of some showers, signs up saying repairs have been scheduled - those signs have been up for weeks. No sign of any maintenance. For months now paint has been peeling off the walls of the pool area and water drips from the ceilings above the pool in regular intervals. There is always something closed or in need of repair in the sauna area. This could be a really nice facility but it is not well taken care of. read more

I have been a member of Bally's (before LA Fitness) since 1990. I am a fitness enthusiast, former college football player, former strength coach, and have been a member of many gyms across the country over the decades. I consider myself seasoned when it comes to evaluating gyms and providing honest, impartial, and objective feedback. Overall, for an LA Fitness (versus a high-end gym) this is a decent facility. It's generally clean and the machines and equipment are generally in good repair. I've seen many that are worse, including the LA Fitness in Denville/Randolph. So, this is a decent enough gym. But here's the big gripe, and I've submitted this feedback directly to LA Fitness, too. This location has a REAL PROBLEM with members just sitting on machines on their phones while resting in between sets -- and not letting other members work in. This defies decades-long proper gym etiquette. It's unbelievable, actually. If you just look around the gym at any given point in time, you see so many members sitting on the machines, on their phones, not letting other members work in. HERE'S THE FEEDBACK: It is proper gym etiquette to let other members work in while resting in between sets. Here's the basic concept if I need to spell it out: while Member 1 is resting in between sets, Member 1 should allow Member 2 to rotate in or "work in," and then Member 1 goes again when Member 2 is done. As opposed to making Member 2 wait until Member 1 is completely done and off the machine. It's such a simple concept, but the members at this location just don't get it. It's not like Member 2 is asking Member 1 to get off the machine. Rather, Member 2 is just asking Member 1 to REST off the machine. This is especially a problem during this awful CELLPHONE AGE, where members, after their set, will just sit there on the machine checking emails or whatever -- totally oblivious to other members trying to work in. Or worse, Member 1 just says "no" when Member 2 asks to work in while Member 1 is resting. "NO?" That's hilarious. What's the difference whether you rest standing up or rest sitting down? Allowing members to work in helps move members through the gym more quickly. And I have such good memories of meeting other guys at Bally's in the early 1990s and working out together -- and rotating in with each other. There was a social thing about it, too, which was great. That has all seemed to go out the window -- at least at this LA Fitness in Parsippany, NJ. In the cardio section, this location has a sign that reads, "During busy hours, limit cardio workouts to 20 minutes on machines." This makes sense, although most gyms it's 30 minutes. But fine. I agree with the concept. I'm just asking management to apply a similar concept (although a rotational concept v. a time limit) to the machine and free weight area, too. I have asked this location to post a similar sign that says, "PLEASE ALLOW OTHERS TO WORK IN WHILE YOU'RE RESTING IN BETWEEN YOUR SETS. DO NOT REST ON THE MACHINE" This is such a basic concept, such a decades-long piece of etiquette that it's so unbelievably frustrating that no one in this gym -- including management -- appear to be aware of it -- or even care about. I don't know when, how, or why this basic piece of etiquette got lost along the way, but it's time to bring it back. And quickly. If this gym fixed this, I'd give it 4 stars. read more

This is the first time I worked out at LA Fitness in Parsippany, New Jersey. The swimming pool at the Esporta location in Lake Hiawatha is under extensive repair so an agreement has been reached to allow Esporta members to use the LA Fitness facility. When I looked up the reviews of LA Fitness on Yelp, I was shocked to find so many 1 Stars. My expectations were at a low point. My usual routine is lifting weights first followed by swimming for 1/2 an hour and 10 minutes in the hot tub. This LA Fitness has a sauna, steam room, hot tub, 3 lane pool, free weights, weight machines, spin bikes, and a basketball court. Additionally, they offer Zumba, yoga and cycling work-outs, I like the fact that they open at 5 am, Mon-Fri.. LA Fitness openned in this location on August 17, 2021. The equipment is modern and I experienced no machines in repair or out for maintenance. The lockerroom and toilets were clean and the hot tub and pool were functioning properly. Overall my visit exceeded my expectations. This is not a criticism of previous reviews but rather a narrative of my experience. read more

Just terminated my membership, which is a bummer because this place could be so great. Nothing ever works. The pool was shut down due to health code violations. The alarm in the front of the building has been going off for days and no one in charge seems to care. There's been a jacket left on an elliptical machine for almost a month. The maintenance at this gym is terrible. * I first signed up for this gym when the it opened a little over 3 years ago and got a good "new member" price locked in (and that's the only thing that's keeping me for now). You would think this gym is older than 3 years by the way it looks. Half of the lights are off (broke? keeping them off? why?). Gym equipment is worn down terribly and so many pieces constantly have a piece of paper on it saying "due for maintenance". Same thing for the bathrooms - many of the showers are constantly down "for maintenance". The bathrooms themselves are disgusting. Floors barely seem clean, there are brown streaks that come from the ceiling and drip down the wall. The walls have so much moisture damage that everything is peeling. They do not have a good ventilation system. The pool area is the absolute worst. SO much moisture damage - walls peeling everywhere, water constantly dripping from the ceiling due to poor ventilation, rust-colored stains all over the floors, exposed ceiling tiles. The sauna has "dirt?" under the edges of the wood and the floors are always dirty. WiFi never connects you. Both vending machines were down today. What's the point of having all of these amenities if they are not maintained/don't work? It's just a mess and it's been like this for over a year. Customer service needs improvement. Since I became a member there were several miscommunications regarding the personal training staff. The trainers at the Parsippany location did nothing to acknowledge my issues. I then contacted customer service in the corporate office. I was told the VP of personal training would respond to my issues. I never received any further communication from anyone at LA Fitness. I have cancelled my membership. read more

Takes forever to work out here because the machines are always taken so you're waiting on almost all machines. Even if you're using free weights the benches are usually taken. It's a crappy policy that when a location closes you are automatically put into another location with NO electronic communication. I would give zero stars if I could. This is the second time I've walked into the locker room and found human feces on the floor -- this is a serious health and safety issue. I have emailed management multiple times without a single response. All eight showers -- 8 out of 8 -- have been broken for over a month. There has been no visible progress on repairs... just promises of "submitted" work orders from front desk staff. Most of the equipment is either broken or dangerously worn down. This isn't just poor maintenance anymore -- it's an unsafe and unsanitary environment. Something needs to be addressed immediately. Would like to give 0 stars. Place is a shit hole. Staff are rude lowlifes. Nobody pays attention. You can walk in most of the time without checking in. Dirty showers and toilets. Pool is a safety hazard. No lifeguard on duty. Don't trust the chlorine levels. Lights fall into the pool with wires exposed. Young people jumping in and out of the pool. When you tell the staff they are so apathetic and useless. Can't get a single aqua fit class on the schedule and when there finally is a class people are pissed because they can't swim. One of the worst gyms. I joined seeing google reviews and great reputation of LA Fitness. But it runs like a scam company. I joined the personal training program for 3 months. In their system, the minimum contract term is 6 months. The fitness director at that time, Mileena, overwrote the 6 months in the contract with 3 months with her initials, thereafter I signed that contract. Now when I was close to 3 months timeline, I approached the gym to make sure that they don't charge anything more for personal training. They gave me shock by saying that the contract term in the system is 6 months. By this time, the fitness director, Mileena had left the gym and there is a new boss now. Initially they were not willing to honor the contract. After a lot of back and forth for 2 weeks, they agreed to do a buy out in the system. I was satisfied at least they are honoring the contract. Now when they did the buy-out, it was in the middle of month and my billing is from 1st of every month. At the time of buyout, I had 16 sessions which were unused. The buyout cancellation email says that I have 30 days to use those 16 sessions. But 2nd surprise was waiting for me. Near the end of the month, I had around 11 sessions left and believing that I still have 15 days to use those sessions as the buyout was done in the middle of the month. The 11 sessions (each session costs $55 for 25 mins, so this equals to $605) disappeared from my account. Now when I call corporate office or write to their VP explaining all this issue, no response. GREAT!! Also in 3 months personal training program, they changed my personal trainer for 3 times. They hire inexperienced college going students who do not stay long. At the time of signing the contract, they tell you all good things that their trainers are certified and all. But none of them have proper physique and I highly doubt they are certified. RUN AWAY FROM THIS GYM. THERE ARE BETTER GYMS IN THE AREA. read more

Ok, not horrible, but way too crowded all the time, lots of lunks that never rerack weights, lots of attitude/self absorbed types, way too many machines that are either broken, in need of attention, or have the weight pins missing. Not good. Some staff with attitude, some staff nice. They have a lot of room and tons of equipment, but they just need to fix what's broken (easily done) and get rid of the attitude (maybe impossible), and this gym would get more stars. read more

Typically I enjoy coming to the gym here, but cleanliness is a big issue in more ways than 1. People hardly clean machines after they are done, I clean everything before and after I use it after witnessing countless people leave machines sweaty and gross. Cleaning machines after use really needs to be encouraged, it's crazy how few people actually do it. Today though, they are completely out of paper towels. Apparently there was a budget issue and the order hadn't come in yet. Paper towels are the only way to clean the equipment here, there aren't wipes or any alternatives. The gym shares a parking lot with wegmans, and they didn't buy anything to supplement until the order came through? It's the middle of summer and the gym is packed, with no way to clean the machines. So gross and unhygienic. Budget issues or not, you NEED to have a way to clean the machines! read more

They charge more for training than any other club. Then they make you pre pay, don't honor the deal they make in terms of total sessions, and then they put an expiration date even though they were prepaid. My trainer left and went back to school so I waited 2 months until he was training again. When I went to book him they had deleted 9 sessions. The local manager said there was nothing he could do, I had to call Customer Service. Sarah P in Customer Service told me I should have used a different trainer - sorry the workouts are expired. The pool has an extremely high concentration of Chemicals! After swimming in the pool for 5 mins, those chemicals in the water numb my lips and tongue. The chemical also destroys my hair, and now my hair feels like plastic!!! I have complained about this to the staff in the gym, but nothing changed!!! My brother has a membership and I am home from college for a week so I got a guest pass. The first night I came here, the front desk staff gave me an extremely difficult time with the guest pass. Tonight, I scanned in and the employee at the front desk told me to enjoy my workout. After one set of bench press, the employee from the first night came over and told me that my guest pass was expired and that I needed to pay $20 to stay or $50 for a membership. This LA Fitness is the new one that opened in the Wegman's complex in Hanover on Route 10. I know it's long but I promise it's worth the read. Joel the general manager is completely incompetent and clearly an imbecile! Joel needs to learn how to read. He was looking at my license and still spelled my last name wrong. My last name has 4 letters in it!!! And the incompetent disgusting rude girl at the front desk with the crazy eyes certainly needs to be trained on what customer service means. I asked for the the multi gym membership for $39.95 a month with 2 guest privileges. That's what my friend has. He changed it on my contract to 1 without telling me and now I'm stuck. I paid first and last month plus $99 initiation plus tax which came to $191. When I called to speak to Joel, he was always "on another call" said the crazy eyes rude front desk girl. When I went in person she wouldn't let me speak to him. I can see Joel looking at us not at all busy or on a call. I said I would like to speak to Joel, the manager who opened my membership. She said "Joel, can you freaken come over here, he still wants to freaken talk to you!" So now I had both of them teaming up against me in front of everyone. Joel was gas lighting me and said it was never 2 guests it was always one. The whole reason I joined was the 2 guest privileges. The crazy eyes girls said "See! I told you!" Joel allowed her to speak to me that way and never said anything to her. LAF-Stop hiring these 20 years olds who couldn't get into college to run these places. They both need to learn what customer service is and what it means to be humbled. I cancelled my membership after LAF corporate did nothing. I am visiting from out of town for business and required a professionally run athletic facility, and I landed on one of the best facilities ever. It started after entering the front door, where client care and customer service were extraordinary and rare. The approachability and pleasant mannerisms of the manager Joel and district manager Richard were applied to the customers and, more importantly, to their frontline teams.
