The gym is overdue for a renovation. They started offering Pilates classes that end up being an extra $50+ a month. Weights are never put back and members don't clean the machines. It's time. I've been a member here for sooooo long and I don't really like leaving negative reviews. You really can't beat a pool and basketball court. The real issue with this place is cleanliness. The pool, hot tub, men's sauna, and showers are all covered in mold. Last year I asked one of the employees how often they cleaned the hot tub. They said weekly. This is not true. I did a daily test where I'd walk past the hot tub and see if the corners were completely caked with green mold. We made it to week 4 where the same green sludge is covering the walls and corners. The sauna is lawless so I can't hold it against the gym for dudes getting in there in their dirty underwear and grossing it up. BUT it smells terrible. The main weight room isn't much better. Go along the dumbbell rack. Right in the middle around the 45-60lb weights smells like there's a dead animal hidden underneath. All around that are wonky benches with cracks and sunken floor mats as well. This place is a tough sell for the amenities. read more

I have been coming here for almost four years. This gym used to be my favorite place to work out and hang out with friends. Over the years, the place has gone downhill tremendously. The turnover rate for staff is unbelievable. The people that were working here when I first joined have left and been replaced over and over. Don't get attached to any employees because they will be gone next month. The personal training here is a joke. I am literally begging you not sign up for personal training because you can learn more and write a better workout program for yourself with one hour of research on the internet. I have watched trainers here instruct their clients to do exercises that are pointless, unsafe, and complete nonsense. Don't waste your time. All the money you will spend on a trainer won't even go back to them either. About 90% of it just goes back to the company. The cleaning staff is completely useless. There was chewed gum on a piece of equipment for literally a year until I finally said something. There are dust rabbits everywhere- cant even call them bunnies cause they're huge. I really don't care about the cleanliness of gyms but this is just a lack of caring all around. The staff walk around and "patrol" but don't put any weights away. The culture here is terrible when it comes to putting weights back. Everyone has the mentality of "someone else will do it" but they won't. You can be the first one in the gym in the morning and all the weights are still thrown all over the place. No one resets the place at night. The sales people will try to get you to buy a year+ long membership or make you pay more up front for a cheaper monthly membership. Way too many games are played when it comes to buying a simple membership; don't fall for them. Just walk away and I guarantee you they will chase you down and offer you the fair price you deserve. If you bring a friend to the gym, don't let your friend give the sales people their real number and if they do just block it because they will call them every day to buy a membership. I have been to so many gyms in the general area and I wish I could say I still love this place, but I don't. The only reason I still come here is because I have a lifetime membership that was grandfathered in from another gym and its conveniently located to my home. So do yourself a favor: drive the extra little bit and go to a gym that isn't a national chain like LA and planet fitness. Go to a local gym like exile, forze, Fit!, etc. read more

The LA Fitness in Towson is located inside the Towson Commons building on Pennsylvania Avenue. The parking garage can be very easy to miss if you don't know where you are going. Once you pull in, you take your standard parking garage ticket which you validate inside the gym for free parking. Once inside the garage, there are quite a few floors you have to drive around to. I usually go all the way up and then come back down to park right across from the opening. If you can't grab a spot near the door, you can take the steps or the elevator to get to the correct floor. Once inside, you can scan the mobile app and proceed on your merry way to start your work out. One thing to note is that there will likely not be any cleaning spray to grab on your way in and you will have to hope there are some at the top of the stairs on the table. Speaking of the steps, there are three flights of stairs to conquer before you get to the second floor. Beware coming back down after leg day. The second floor is where all the machines are whereas the first floor is all cardio machines. There are also some treadmills and elliptical machines upstairs as well. There is an elevator that can bring you up and down if you absolutely hate the stairs as much as I do. The Towson location does have a few set backs which include: Cleanliness- it's not the worst but certainly could be cleaned much better. The paper towel dispensers are often empty along with the shortage of cleaning spray bottles. Culture: people tend not to rerack their weights here and dumbbells and barbells are pretty hard to find. Covid safety: mask are not required at this location at this time and most people are not wearing them. If this is bothersome for you, you may want to go to the ones in the city where mask are still required. read more

I went to the location about 7 years ago and it has drastically changed for the worse. The gym needs an overhaul. What little staff I saw there weren't friendly, the guy at the front desk ignored everyone coming in. The cleaning staff walked around looking lost, I assume they were trying to locate where the smell was coming from. It smells like dirty water was used to clean the first floor and stairs while the upper floor smells like a dusty attic. The floors upstairs are some type of composite foam which I assume is to dampen the noise from dropped weights but they need to be replaced due to them sagging and shifting all over. You could transition from one area of the free weights to the next and stumble because of the dip or think the floor was caving in because of it. Over half of the equipment had signs on it that said it needed to be serviced. Then half of the women's stalls said the same thing. If this was someone's home personal gym I wouldn't bat an eye but a multimillion company, if not more, having such piss poor accommodations makes me wonder why it hasn't been shut down yet. If you want to go to an La Fitness the ones in Owings Mills and Baltimore are better. read more

Been a meme we at this gym for several months now and the service is very bad. I called after work one night, knowing they were closing in half an hour, to see if they found my wallet but they left me on hold for half an hour until closing time. Every time I go I there all the people working there aren't doing anything; not cleaning not checking people in not answering phones. The place also isn't as clean as it looks. Very very disappointing after signing up for a meme we ship. The hours are also very difficult to work around if you work all day like me. Over all pretty bad. read more

This location is very clean and put together, lots of different equipment varying between strength and cardio. The staff here is very welcoming and helpful to questions and comments. And I love the fact that there is free parking through the gym membership. The gym has poor mgt. The Asst Mgr is always under the influence. You can not use certain equipment unless you have a personal trainer. He stated you "can" but if someone comes in you have to be responsible for being in the way. I'm mixed on this. Pros: central location, pool is not crowded during daytimes... currently paying $50 a month which is a steal after living in NYC for 8 years, but not sure how local folks think about this rate. Cons: there has been this used dirty wipe laying outside the hot tub for over two weeks! A long time ago, I saw a cleaning worker, but that was a long time ago. She looked so disgusted, I think she quit. The pool is not cleaned regularly far as I can tell. There is trash, hair, wipes, random crap, oh yes and today I even saw a discarded swimsuit and sock by the pool. Most days around 4:45-7, they have kids swimming lessons, but they only take up one lane of the pool. However, they create more waste, which is never cleaned. The hot tub is ominously closed for maintenance so often. This location just draws homeless folks, you can't get past that. Some weird people just sit by the pool (not the hot tub, mind you) and just stare and stare at you while you're swimming. They never get into the pool themselves and they sit there for over 5 hours. As for the weights, I would say very crowded. At my old gym, I used to go to classes all the time. Here, not so much. Overall, I would say this is a moderately nice gym. I have a membership to be able to use other branches, but so far I haven't traveled although soon I will be returning to my old job and traveling more so maybe I will have more opinions after visiting the other locations. This would be a great gym if the equipment was taken care of properly. After two months of going to this gym and bring these issues to the staff's attention, there are still pieces of equipment that have yet to be repaired. There are exposed cable wires that my partner cut himself on. Many cable stations have one or both caribiners rusted shut so you either cannot attach any handles or cannot switch out the handles. One functional trainer has old, worn out handles that are permanently attached. That machine is extremely versatile but unfortunately its "functionality" is limited because of these handles. Selectorized equipment still has worn off labels or is missing the small increment weights altogether. The squat rack safety bars have exposed edges that have also cut our hands. This gym also puts little effort into encouraging members to sanitize equipment. There are only a few stations around the whole floor with paper towels and 75% of the time the cleaning solution is empty. I wish they would upgrade and provide sanitizing wipes conveniently located around the weight floor like many other reputable gyms. (Update: they did add a *few* stations with sanitizing wipes but they are only at a few spots in the gym and are very poor quality. They are usually dried out or empty.) read more

Floors are cleaned about once a month. it's really irritating that maintenance doesnt work early as so they dont interfere with workouts. clean the courts and bathrooms at am like every other gym. If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. I have been going here now for a couple of months. Maria their general manager is a waste of space. Her negative body language and condescending attitude is disturbing. All she does for her entire shift is sit at the front desk with this look of disgust on her face while starring into her phone. I can not believe she is running this sad excuse of a gym. She doesn't seem like she even wants to be there. I have had several instances of her talking back to me and have watched her do the same with other members. If you don't treat customers with general respect then why bother working in a position where customer service should be above and beyond, Maria? Aside from Maria, the cleanliness of the gym is atrocious. Every time I go to the gym, which is regularly, I only see one, sometimes two people doing the cleaning for this locations giant footprint. Two people? Seriously? This place needs to be deep cleaned which clearly has never happened based on the visible filth. Do better LA fitness and while you're at it, find another general manager. Went in person (as stated on the site and during daytime during the week only) to re-confirm cancel with a new form. After reading the reviews here, I was skeptical of coming to this location. But it turned out to be one my favorite ones! There's free parking in a garage and no matter what time I go, I'll still find a spot. The staff are pretty nice from what it seems. There are tons of cardio equipment upstairs and downstairs. They got all the works in the weight lifting area. And a HUGE plus is how organized the dumbbell rack is!! The members here aren't that ignorant, so things are where they're supposed to be. Thank goodness. The way they space their equipment gives you enough space to walk around too. No matter how packed it is, the area is open enough where I don't smell B.O. clouding over me lol. Besides the gymming equipment, the locker room is an area I weighed heavily in this rating. IT'S CLEAN. You can definitely tell the staff here are on top of it, although the basketball courts has a lot of trash around the perimeter. Idk why members here can shoot balls into hoops for hours but can't toss their water bottle into a trash can 5ft from them..? read more

The facility is very upscale but is the dirtiest gym i have ever been to. One person "cleaning" the whole gym is sitting there talking to someone while there is urine on the bathroom and trash can full to the top , never any towels to clean the machines with , staff is nice though they just need to hire a crew to clean because it's very nasty in there and the person "cleaning" doesn't do good at all , Mens sauna and locker room is disgusting, dust and trash everywhere looks like some places in gym have never been cleaned nor fair for me to have to pay $40 a month to go to a disgusting gym read more

The place is nice but I disliked that the trainers are rude ppl and the fact when I tried to cancel my membership, I sent out the letter several weeks before the new charge date, they claimed they never got it and then all the sudden "got it" and still wanted to charge me another month. I have been going to this gym for the past year, and there are some problems. First off, when I first decided to join this gym, I went to a membership counselor and she told me for the three year plan that was $25 a month, my down payment was $225. And then she said that because I wasn't able to afford that, she would lower the down payment to $125. Then, two weeks later, my fiancé wanted to join as well. So we went to the same person and she said that the down payment for him was $125 flat. So in essence, she just tried to make it sound like a good deal for me when quite possibly that original down payment wasn't even the real price. Next, the equipment here is pretty awesome. They have a lot of benches, machines, dumbbells, treadmills, and a couple squat racks. They are all pretty new and nice plus. Finally, culturally, it sucks. Absolutely NO ONE RERACKS THE WEIGHT. It is absolutely infuriating. Another huge problem, during this pandemic, is that HALF OF THE PEOPLE DO NOT WEAR MASKS. Even after the gym ordering that everyone wears masks at all times, they do not enforce it. And there are barely any staff there to enforce anything. Overall 2 stars, the only reason it's not one is because of the lack of people who come to the gym at peak hours, and the amount of equipment they have. read more

The place has really gone downhill over the past couple of years. It's not a real gym environment. People aren't there to workout and support each other but rather talk and play on their phones. The employees have never touched a weight or gone on a run in their life but want to tell you about "working out". And during covid they rely on their gym snitches who aren't there to workout anyways to tell on you and kick you out god forbid your mask goes down below your nose while you're actually working out. I went to this gym for 3 years. When I signed up, I also brought my wife, additional family members and friends. On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, one of our friends that we invited to join was the victim of an attempted car jacking in the building's garage. She was one of 3 separate attacks that occurred that day - all around 7:30pm. Lucky for her, there were several good bystanders that were able to intervene. After the event, LA Fitness Towson and the property management company did little to remedy the situation. We ultimately no longer feel safe here. Today, Saturday, June 22, 2018, I attempted to cancel my membership only to be told that this gym can only handle cancellations on weekdays, 9am-5pm. This seems preposterous as the gym is more than happy to sign up new members on weekends. We were told to sign and mail a form to corporate, but advised that this route is not always successful. After initially making little progress with the front desk, we asked to speak to a manager. A saleswoman came over, but did not offer any additional help. So in addition to our overall sense of lack of safety, we also question LA Fitness's business practices as their priority is obviously only on bringing in new revenue rather than making sure their existing members are taken care of. We will happily be signing up for the nearby YMCA once we have our situation taken care of. Being that this is a gym frequented by Towson university students (particularly women), I would strongly recommend for the sake of your safety, to look elsewhere. read more

For those with long-standing familiarity of Towson, the old Bally's-turned-LA-Fitness on Towson Circle has moved to the old movie theater complex at the intersection of York and Pennsylvania. In addition to replacing several giant movie screens of the afore-mentioned multiplex with individual TV ones at each machine thus substantially updating the equipment, this space is completely unrecognizable and now features a swimming pool. The gym is kept at a comfortable temperature, has a lot of machines, racquetball courts, and group ex classes. The locker rooms are modern and there is validated parking with, compliments to the location, for more than the 1 hour offered at some locations further south. I had a bad experience here but maybe you won't? I have a problem mostly with the manager (or old manager) and trying to cancel the membership. I was promised a rate upon signing up then 3 months later it changed. I didn't get a notice or anything, so when going in to enquire about it, I was told that was never a price. I sucked it up and paid the extra just to cancel a month later. I was charged extra months and had to keep writing letters to get them to stop and refund my money. As far as the facility goes, its really nice, but I would rather go for the full package. I prefer the Merritt down Joppa road. Not only is their staff amazing but none of that would fly with them. This company is a rip off. When I moved to Maryland I attempted to cancel my membership. I sent letters to corporate called the gym and was told that I had to come into the gym to cancel????? I explained that I lived in Maryland and it fell on deaf ears. I finally out of desperation I canceled my debit card. They then started calling me, funny when you call to cancel you never get thru or a return phone call. But stop payment and next thing they have you on speed dial. I was finally told that I could go to the club in Maryland and cancel which I did but was convinced to keep my membership cut what they suppository did was close the florida account and credit back the 2 or three payments they were not able to collect since I canceled my debit card. No one can confirm that is was done. They then signed me up new in Maryland and I again had to go to the gym to cancel and would you believe that the only person allowed to process cancelations was not in and is only in select hours daily. If you need a good and inexpensive gym in the Towson area LA Fitness does the trick. It's very clean and there's never a wait on the cardio machines. However if you come between 6pm - 8pm to lift weights, be prepared for a wait getting dumbbells and on some of the weight machines. I try to get here by 6pm during the week if I'm in a rush. read more

This gym I was able to use in a three day pass to test it out. Overall not bad and was impressed to see they converted the old movie theater to a nicely sized gym with all of the amenities. Unlike its other locations, this gym has all features one could as for and the prices are not bad at all per month. Gm Patrick Zerelli was really helpful in providing pricing and specials. They are building a LA fitness in Owings mills, so it may be an option to consider but because of location and difficulty of the area Towson would def be a no go. read more

First off I have been going to this gym since it opened in 2014. There are many things I like about this gym. However there needs to be a professional cleaning crew. There is dust piled up under by the free weights which has been there since 2014. The basketball court is not properly maintained. The locker rooms are so dirty. Cleanliness is not what you will get here. When I pick up a free weight and it rolls under the weight bench dust falls from it and hit me in the eye once. The managers and majority of people sitting downstairs are not friendly and not approachable. To make matters worse I never see the one manager leave his desk he needs to be aware of what is going on. There was a guy last week screaming his music which was a curse word every other word at the top of his lungs up stairs . The club is gradually declining and not being maintained . Corporate needs to be aware of what is going on and get involved ASAP. read more
