I had the sweet and sour fish with glass noodles. The dish was flavorless. It was very sweet. I also had sweet plantains which were good but overpriced. The staff was did not communicate well to one another so we had to repeat the same order and request to two different people of which caused us to waste an additional 12 minutes at the restaurant. The space is not large but they do make room. This is my second time here in over 7 years and each time the other person chose this restaurant. They are on the low scale of places to eat in NYC. Great food and prices! I ordered small Stewed Beef with rice and beans (Res Guisado con arroz & habichuelas) via phone. My order was only $6! You can pay by credit card but they do have a minimum (may be $6 but can't remember). They have minimal seating and it's kind of dark inside so I recommend take out or delivery. I picked up my order without opening the bag to confirm that it was right :( It was not. They gave me stewed chicken and not beef. So I gave it to my husband since I don't eat chicken. He said it was amazing. I ate the rice and beans under the chicken which were delicious and super flavorful. The small is truly a small but they pack a good amount of food into that little container. It's definitely enough for a lunch portion. I've also ordered a small Sancocho (Dominican 7-Meat Stew) (~$5.50) before which was very flavorful but I wasn't crazy about the quality of meat that they used so just ended up eating the veggies and broth. I stopped in here to grab some lunch to go after getting my nails done in the area. They had good reviews on Yelp. When I arrived, the small restaurant was fairly crowded with people ordering lunch. They have a few tables to sit and enjoy your meal but it appears to be more of a take out spot. The staff were friendly and accommodating and answered my questions without rushing me. They have daily specials and that's what I ordered. I had the baked chicken, rice and beans. The give you big portions and thankfully the food was delicious. I was able to eat for lunch and dinner. The prices were a little expensive than I expected for the area. However, it's worth it for the quality and quantity of food you receive. It was busy when I went and there was a lot of moving around with staff working fast to complete customers orders which was great to see. I only have good words for Flor de Broadway. Consistent with their delivery & food. I usually order the sancocho, and it has never failed me. My partner orders the sandwiches and mofongo, and they hit the spot. Another note is that they sometimes do run out of ingredients or menu items -- which makes sense since it seems to be a busy neighborhood spot. But my goodness -- I've never had such attentive phone calls after I place my orders. They let me know what's missing, what are the different alternatives, and gives me the option to add empanadas to make up for the price difference. I've never had such service before. This is a great little spot for a solid lunch special.. rice beans plantains. I always get the same thing, it's really good and always hits the spot. So this place might seem confusing at first because you don't know how/where to order, but don't fret! You place your order with one of the workers behind the stool area where all the food is placed. There isn't a really good place to stand and place your order, but wait patiently and eventually someone will take your order. I came here during lunchtime and the place is packed, so service was slow, but surprisingly the waitresses have good memory and eventually what you ask for will be done. I sat in the bar stool conveniently in front of the food and people come and go. Not the cleanest place I've been too, but it sufficed. I had the joy of ordering the tilapia with rice & beans and plantains and the chicken soup. The soup is phenomenal. For just 3.50, you get a huge entree sized bowl. The chicken is cooked really long and in turn super soft and yummy. It has a bit of squash, carrots, noodles, and some other vegetables. I love the taste when you combine it with some of the lime. The tilapia was average. It was a bit overcooked, but since they make it in big batches, it's understandable because it'll be hard to control. I really liked the sauce though it was sweet and creamy with a hint of coconut. It went really well with the beans that were also pretty soupy. Flor is a great neighborhood spot with good food at cheap prices. I've had their pernil and rice and their Cuban sandwiches, which they're known for. Both are excellent. The portions are huge too. It's amazing if you get out of midtown or Morningside, all the food is larger in quantity and cheaper in price. Kind of like apartment in NYC. I walked up to the waiter and POINTED at the meal on the menu and ordered two orders of the shrimp. Speeding up to the moment we ask for the check. My co worker grabs the $18 check and goes pay. Top our surprise the $18 check was per meal. We were confused.....we ordered two $7 meals plus am order of maduros. How is each meal $18???!!! I kindly tried to speak to the manager and asked what had changed from the price listed on the menu to the price on the check. She rolls get eyes and says "you're complaining now after you ate the food"? Are you kidding me?! So I grabbed the menu and physical and verbally told her how my conversation went with the waitress. She could care less. She called the waitress over and when I confronted her she lied through her teeth. She said she told me that the food was coming from the back. What the heck does that mean? Do I work there to know what that means? Doesn't all the food come from the back aka kitchen? After going back and forth the manager didn't care to apologize or anything. I don't give a lot of five stars. This place is honestly that good. They mostly only speak Spanish, but you could just point and get some excellent food. Everyone is super nice and I've made this place one of my go-tos for good food. You can tell by the way things are organized that the business is not made to flourish, but rather to keep everyone happy in a balanced equilibrium. When I go to some places, I can imagine the grubby sleezy business man in the back trying to squeeze every profit out of a neighborhood. Not this place. It's authentic and it's as altrustic as a parent cooking a big thanksgiving dinner and seeing happy people eat it. You'll find a wide variety of happy customers coming in for amazing food at a very afordable price and large portions. It's Dominican and Cuban food at its best.
