Moving to the area and decided to check this place out because Mexican food is in my top 3 favorite foods. I was NOT disappointed in the mood. Service wasn't bad but I did feel rushed. While I didn't use the restroom the restaurant itself appeared clean. I believe I'll be a regular. read more

Seems a pretty typical Mexican-American restaurant by its design, interior, and most of all the menu, but they're really a cut above. Not finding anything exactly to our liking from the standard menu and wanting traditional Mexican tacos, we asked the host/server up front if they had traditional tacos and he said, sure, they're not on the menu but they could do them--although they only had al pastor and carne asada at the time. We ordered our tacos and were nicely surprised to see them served with a generous portion of rice and beans plus chips and salsa to go--we'd just ordered tacos, not a meal or combo, but they did them up like a meal! And even chips, to go, at that! Very impressed, and also impressed how well they seemed to manage cleanliness and stewardship of their dine-in area while also doing plenty of to-go orders. Superb customer service all around. As for the food, pretty standard. The al pastor was just fine, as good as most, and everything else was pretty good as well. Good salsa especially. So, even if a pretty typical Mexican-American restaurant, they're doing a good job with it and moving forward in tough times with a smile. We went for lunch midweek when we were camping nearby and sat on the patio. The place was pretty busy. Not much in this little town for dining. The outdoor patio area was nice, but the vinyl table cloths pretty grimy. Great salsa and chips. Ordered combo plates with spinach enchilada (very good) and chili relleno. The chili relleno was not really very traditional at all...see the photo...a cheese and meat mixture (meat in a chili relleno? ) with a small square of a chili on top of it. Very very odd and not at all a chili relleno that's for sure. We're vegetarians and this was a big disappointment to have meat at all. Delish refried beans. The margarita was okay. Pretty sober service from our server. Could have been more friendly. Would say to go check it out, but ask questions if you have any. We expected that we were going to have a wait since it was so busy, not a problem. So we looked over the menu to order something different since we're from out of town. We've been going here for years and like all restaurants they are struggling to survive in this economy. The food is usually average to good depending on what you order. On our last visit I was in for a surprise when I ordered a spinach quesadilla for lunch. Usually they're made from fresh spinach and pretty tasty, but now they are making them with cheap CANNED spinach. Nasty. Gross. Yuck. Starving, we pulled in for a quick bite at 2:30 after the lunch rush and weren't sure if they'd still be serving. Never coming back to this place I ordered a shrimp cocktail to go which costs 10$ only to notice afterwards I got charged 13.3 dollars for some reason I don't know since i didn't get a receipt and that's not even the worse part The worse part of it all my big shrimp cocktail only brought 3 shrimps the rest was just water and vegetables Wouldn't recommend this place to nobody And plus I've been told by co workers since I didn't get a receipt I gotta have an eye to my bank account because they are known to steal money again by charging you after 2 days or so read more

There was approx. 10 percent steak and the remainder onions with a few peppers. My order has been wrong twice lately. Always check your to go order. Poor quality food and poor customer service. Best place to eat within a 75 mile radius of Elberton. You are always greated by friendly staff and seated within minutes of arrival. Have never been there that we didn't bring enough food home to eat at least one or two more meals. The meals are well prepared from a generous menu. I ordered the chorizo-queso dip for an appetizer: the sausage was in huge chunks, I had to cut it with a knife to make it a small enough portion to eat on a chip and very bland. The consistency of the cheese was very thin also. For the entree had the large chicken taco, not bad, but bland also. Did the kitchen run out of spices?? The service was lacking too; the staff was neither professional or polite. You would think a service industry would strive for that. Once the main meal was brought out, I never saw our waiter again. When we were ready to leave I flagged down the bus boy for our ticket because we had been sitting so long and he wandered off and came back in a few minutes with our ticket. Geez. On a positive note the portion sizes are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Buy some spices and teach your staff food service skills and I will be back to give La Fogota another shot. read more
