    Carne Asada burrito

A Mexican American restaurant that should just stop! I came here on a busy Friday night so I will disregard any bad service or wait times. My meal started off with cold chips served with what tastes like Jarred mild pace for the salsa. I ordered the soft pretzels for an appetizer which consisted of 3 frozen "Super Pretzels" that you can buy from your local grocery store. For my entree I ordered a carne asada burrito topped with queso. The burrito itself was a soggy mess of char flavoring, aside the burrito was a small pile of week old lettuce distasteful rice and watery beans. None of which tasted of anything positive.

My friend, a new Yelp user, found Lafawnduh as we were passing through Artesia. Against my better judgement, I allowed him to direct us to a 3-star restaurant with no photos of the food. After eating here, I understand why no such evidence exists. I thought my novice friend had made a sound choice in dining options when I first observed a waitress pushing around what appeared to be a fresh-made guacamole cart. Unfortunately, my hopes would be upended soon enough. To make a long story short, I would describe this culinary journey as: bland, straight-from-the-box OR jar, and surprisingly (and deceptively) cheese-laden. I imagine whoever created the menu had only heard tall tales about Mexican cuisine, but never actually ate, saw, or even smelled such food. Though whomever they are, they must have a pretty good sense of humor as the menu itself was funny to read, and the food was fairly comical to match. This restaurant was pretty busy, so I'm not sure if they have low expectations in Artesia or just limited options. The waitress was nice though (yet not entirely certain of what the food contained) and for that, I'll give them 2 stars.

It's La Fonda! Service is wonderful! Food is pretty good. They have always accommodated my special request and have never had any issues with their service. Best part...they have Sweet Tea!

Great food! Fast service! They were very busy but after we were sat it was very fast. Recommend the steal burrito.

Never again. Needless to say it was the worst Mexican food I've had in NM. My 5 yr old even said we are never coming back mom.

I had marked these GPS coordinates months ago, making a note that Rene Anthony's was notable the highest-rated restaurant on the long drive between Dallas and Tularosa, NM. But I began to doubt myself as glimpses through the thick fog revealed no civilization, nothing but empty fields. Was there really a restaurant out here open at 5:12 a.m. or did my typically methodical road trip research contain an error? And suddenly, there it was, an oasis of an eatery standing alone in an ordinary building on the south side of the highway surrounded by nothingness. I strolled into the small dining room filled with a dozen truckers waking up to a vivid discussion about the NFL. A city slicker seemingly out of place, I was welcomed with open arms and placed my dine-in order at the register. The only breakfast option was a lengthy list of breakfast burritos, a dish I don't normally enjoy. But this was different. Chef Anthony Sanchez is making magic here. Ordering the porky pig, a massive burrito absolutely stuffed with fresh chorizo, onions, and peppers, this is pure deliciousness in the middle of nowhere!

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 3 | Price: 3 PARKING There is ample parking out front even for trucks with trailers and big rigs. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The location is a bit outside of Hobbs, NM on the Carlsbad Highway. It's near the Arkansas Junction headed west towards Carlsbad. It's a small place with a few tables and booths. You order and pay at the register as soon as you walk in then wait to be served. You must ask for a key to the lone restroom which is accessible going back outside. It's better than nothing. It's not the cleanest & hot water at the sink never flowed for me. I wish they would take down the old signage already. It's been there for years. I remember seeing a post back on March 2023 that Renee Anthony was opening soon. It's time for new signage! Their music was a bit on the loud side when I first walked in. THE GRUB They offer a breakfast and lunch menu only. No dinner. Or supper as we call it in my family. The lunch menu is confusing because I heard the group in front of me order burgers. I never saw them on there. I opted for a cheeseburger because my friend had one a couple of weeks ago and she said it was amazing with jalapenos. Well, those got left off of my order. I should have had the hostess repeat my order back to me, but they were fairly busy & she seemed a bit flustered at times. A combo with a side of homemade fries and a sealed drink of your choice (I went with a strawberry/kiwi Shasta) costed $16.58. It came with chopped onions and tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. Your choice of ketchup, mayo, and/or mustard comes on the side. Plastic was accepted. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I didn't see any kid's menu items nor is it a baby or toddler-friendly restaurant... no high chairs. No baby changing station available in the lone restroom either. SERVICE I told the friendly hostess on 1/26/2024 that I wanted something spicy with my cheeseburger if I could in fact order one. I suggested jalapenos, but I think she got distracted as I often witnessed while waiting for my takeout because they were nonexistent. The deprivation killed me! Lol. MY FAVORITE PART... The burger ended up being a 1/2 pounder. A lot more lunch than I anticipated (thankfully) at that price. Next time I'm down for something different, though! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... Asking for the key to the restroom (bleh), no hot water at the sink, and the price (steep!). TIPS + Call head for takeout or dine in. + They have an assortment of desserts in the fridge next to the beverage fridge.

PROS + beautiful, well-maintained golf course/grounds within view of the dining room + outdoor dining is also available + super friendly, efficient bartender (she's been there every single Wednesday I come in during 2023) + decent food... comes out hot and fresh! + moderately priced + many key places are within the vicinity (see my list below) + pro shop is next door + casual dress code is okay CONS I feel like the dining area could use a makeover. Also, the last visit to the women's restroom there was no soap in the dispenser (4/26/2023). I mentioned that several key campuses and sights were nearby.
