Stumbled on this place coming from Moss Landing looking for dessert. Hole in the wall place with bakery shelves on 3 sides. The owner was super friendly and gracious, pointing us to her recommendations. The conch and elephant ears were perfection! While I was debating additional items to get, a regular came in and straight away got a tray of 7 conch, so I knew folks loved it besides us! We also got some very chocolate chip muffins (chocolate chips were topping, not mixed in) and a bread/cookie covered in chocolate chips. And only $14 for all of it!! I couldn't believe it. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2018 Panaderia Guadalajara is located in the heart of Castroville, California. This Panaderia is close to the local Catholic Church Our Lady of Refuge. The owner of the Giant Artichoke Restaurant recommended this spot when we asked if there were any panaderias close by. It's a small panaderia, clean and well stocked with baked goods. We were greeted by the nice lady behind the counter (Señora Vicky). We picked two concha (one chocolate, one vanilla), two pink polvorons, one chocolate chip polvoron, one custard empanada, one La Oreja (palmier), one Gusano de Canela, one lemon thumbprint cookie. For nine pastries it cost $6.50, the added bonus is they accept debit and credit cards. The pan dulce and other pastries tasted good. I would definitely come back here if we were in the area! Wooohooo! As good as it gets at this Mexican Bakery. Excellent selection of pasteries. Baked to perfection. Melt in your mouth. Spanish is not required but not necessary. LOVE this bakery. Arrived on Veteran's Day 2020 about 4ish pm and there were freshly baked goodies coming out of the oven. There was a wonderful variety of cookie, pastries, breads. We only came in for "a couple" of pan desabrido for dinner, and came out with a tray full. And fresh tortillas. Marked as one of our new favorites and will return again and again!! Out of town guests must stop here. AMAZING. (Quick tip: grab a metal tray, Tongs, and start picking from the cases!) My husband and I are in Castroville visiting and wanted something authentic that's harder to find in the Midwest, so we stopped at Guadalajara Bakery and y'all, holy.... Have you ever craved an entire dozen donuts but they're to sugary to eat all 12? This is the place for you. I've never had a delicious pastry like that before. She had everything from sweet breads, to cheesecake, cake, cookies, fruit turnovers... Everything. I'll be honest, I have no idea what we bought but every single thing was delicious. To add, we purchased about 6-8 pastries/cakes and the total was $7!! Take cash and leave a tip. My favorite? The bread pouf with a version of chocolate icing. Pretty incredible. read more

We were camping at Moss Landing and Sunset beach and came across this WONDERFUL Mexican Bakery in Castroville! This is the best pastries I have had outside of Paris and Vienna!! Everything so fresh and warm. Both times the ladies there gave us a free sample to whet our appetites and oh my they were so good! Helps to speak Spanish a bit but you can always get by as they know a bit of English. My wife and I were offered a pastry that had cream cheese and jalapenos as it fillings, and it was very generously filled. OMG I could eat this everyday it was so good!! The bread it was in was so good and fresh that it makes a repeat trip there a must. The empanadas were cream filled and warm and delicious, one we had was pumpkin filled...my mouth is watering it is so good. We planned our meals around returning for a refill on the Pastries. The cake snowballs with sugar or coconut was so moist and tasty. Forget The Giant artichoke and Phil s Fish market, go here and gorge for so little money....ARRIBA!! ARRIBA!!! ANDULAY!!! read more

Autentico!!! Fantastic. Spanish is not required, but recommended as no one has spoken English when I have gone...but pointing can work I guess. The place is friendly and baked fresh throughout the day. We came one time at 4:30 PM and the pan dulce was still fresh. They did have some unique takes on some of the traditional things, but they were good takes :). I love the green galletas, mucho bueno! read more
