The prices were steep and the service was mediocre. The food was not that great they could do better.

A cozy spot that caters to the locals, and I'm pretty sure I was the only non-Spanish speaker that day lol. All the same, the ladies running the restaurant were all super kind, if a bit surprised to see me eating at their establishment. Ordered gallo pinto (small) and nacatamal, both served in generous portions (enough for leftovers). Both were really tasty, hearty and flavorful. No frills, but I enjoyed them. Not expensive at all, totaling just under $15 that gave me two meals! Definitely try Nicaraguan food in your lifetime!

However, my biggest disappointment was the chicharrón ( nothing but inflated air ) It tasted store-bought instead of fresh and authentic, which was surprising for a restaurant representing Nicaraguan cuisine. That was honestly the only major issue with our visit. Everything else was good, but authentic, freshly made chicharrón would make a huge difference and better match the quality of the rest of the food. I hope this is something the restaurant can improve on because the potential is definitely there.

The meats were well-seasoned, tender, and had that great grilled, smoky taste you want from these dishes. We also ordered tostones on the side, which were crispy and great for dipping, but the real surprise was the fried cheese -- absolutely amazing. Salty, golden, and perfectly crisp on the outside while still soft inside. Easily one of the highlights of the meal. Overall, a really satisfying experience with hearty portions, authentic flavors, and sides that definitely deserve attention. I'd happily go back to try more from the menu. Service was great. They brought the food pretty quickly. And we're helpful on trying to decide what to eat. Everything in the menu look tasty and I think these were probably one of the top choices. There's plenty of seating good for family, friends, and for date dates. They do offer valley parking as well. Unless you find parking in the street.

I don't think is a safe area to park your own car in the neighborhood. Pay the $7 to avoid the unexpected repair cost. The food was good, I had the leguna, it was soft and tasty. The cacao taste like horchata w volka after taste, there's no alcohol in the drink. I didn't like the tostones, the cheese was on the hard side. If I'm in the area. I would eat here again.

Very small and delicious family-owned, hole in the wall restaurant!…read more Parking can be difficult since they don't have their own parking lot but there is street parking if you're lucky! Inside was quite small and doesn't have too much seating. Don't come here if you're in a hurry because food takes awhile. My group of 5 waited ~20 min for our food after ordering. The restaurant can be easily missed since it is a little hidden and it seems like they keep the doors locked because of all the chaos happening lately. Menu had a good variety of meat and seafood dishes. Pricing was reasonable and most of the dishes were ~$20+. Portions are HUGE so make sure to come with a big appetite! Service was very friendly and welcoming Got #9 (Fritanga) - $20.50 and it came with gallo pinto (rice and beans), arroz blanco (white rice), carne asada (grilled meat), tajada frita (fried sliced green plantain), platano frito (fried ripe plantain), maduros (sweet plantain), yuca, queso frito (fried cheese), tortilla and cabbage salad. The Gallo pinto was a little dry and could use a little more seasoning but it was still pretty good. The carne asada was quite flavorful and would have been better if it was more tender. The fried plantains were amazing and super sweet! The fried cheese was interesting and so delicious! The cabbage salad reminded me of a coleslaw so it was nothing special. Overall, I really enjoyed how much food was given and most of the items were very good! This was 8/10 The Maracuya (Passionfruit) drink ($7.50) was way too sweet that I had to add water so that it would be less sweet. I didn't enjoy this and it didn't taste fresh so this was 5/10 Would definitely recommend and return

The food is mediocre. This is one of the closest Nicaraguan places near my family's neighborhood. I'm not impressed. The cacao is real good so is the Fritanga. Today, I tried carne desmenuzada (shredded beef) no flavor whatsoever. I'm not coming back. I paid $81.00 and left the rest of the food. There's only three car spaces to park. The waiter is a teenager. He's very shy. Cute kid, but professionals would be better to serve. Their cook needs to improve or this place is not going to survive with their $$$ prices. I would gladly paid but not for their food or the cuisine they prepped.

We grew up eating grandma's Nicaraguan dinners and this is as close as you'll find to five star fabulously prepared Nicaragua meals. I ordered my favorite, which is Lengua con tomates y gallo Pinto. It's sooo good. My mom ordered pescado, my gringa wife ordered pollo y carne, and my brother ordered steak con maduros, Fritos y papas.... They even have cacao y pinol. All sandy n grainy like grandma made. We have been to the few other Nicaraguan restaurants around. One over by Loyola high school off Olympic, funky location, difficult to get into. The Gallo Pinto in Azusa, which is an easier location to get into with a mix of Nicaraguan and Mexican food. And now we have found this location. And after enjoying all three, I will tell you that this food wise and service wise is the most authentic and flavorful choice. It is five star of Nicaragua food preparation. The only drawback is it's location, nothing you could do about that. My mom's in a wheelchair makes it a little bit challenging to get in because it's not ADA friendly. So plan ahead, use the bathroom before you get there. And be ready for one of the best Nicaragua dinners in the greater Los Angeles area.
