However, my biggest disappointment was the chicharrón ( nothing but inflated air ) It tasted store-bought instead of fresh and authentic, which was surprising for a restaurant representing Nicaraguan cuisine. It was so much food--we were absolutely stuffed and even took some of the leftover caldo to go. For drinks, I always get the cacao, and my boyfriend gets the pitaya drink. Both are excellent--perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and you can really taste that they're made without artificial sweeteners. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere is warm and lively. There was a man playing the keyboard and singing, families dining together, and the place was pretty busy, which added to the charm. Every time we've come here, the service has been incredibly kind and welcoming. We grew up eating grandma's Nicaraguan dinners and this is as close as you'll find to five star fabulously prepared Nicaragua meals. I ordered my favorite, which is Lengua con tomates y gallo Pinto.
