Food was edible, but I'm not interested in giving them a second try. Food was mostly bland Tex-Méx, with the exception of the beef fajita meat which was good and the chips and salsa. One more look and we luckily found La Galera. Tables/decor that look like it's from the 90s, chips you can tell are homemade, and delicious ground beef (that tastes like it was seasoned like a burger, interesting)- you can't beat it!! We stopped here for a Mexican food dinner while visiting the local attractions and were happy we waited for the small waiting time when we showed up without a reservation. They took our phone number and told us 15 minutes wait time. It was only 12 minutes to get the call and were shown to our table. Melinda came over to our table and took our drink orders nd brought them back very quickly. We reviewed the menu, got some recommendations after we poised questions and chose wisely, since the food arrived, hot, fairly fast and was tasty. We did have salsa and chips provided while we waited, as most Mexican restaurants do, but these were fresh and good. We shared a meal and there was enough for both my wife and I to share and still be full when done. The restaurant is beautiful with gorgeous relief painted chairs and colorful wall decor. The food is inspired by the Mexican State of Guanajuato, where many of the hard-working staff is from. Their drink menu is extensive with all varieties and sizes of margaritas, including the party tub that our table ordered with a pour your own spout! After reading latest reviews, I was hesitant to try this restaurant again. I was glad I did! Six of us had the most delicious Mexican dinner ever! My husband had the burrito ranchero which had tender,melt in your mouth meat and perfectly caramelized onions. I had chimichangas, one beef, one chicken and both were excellent. The other 4 had various tacos and burritos and all were enjoyed. Try the guava Margarita for something different and Delicious. We were in the area and searching for a dinner option near by, luckily this restaurant was in the same plaza we were in. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated right away. The menu is your standard Mexican flare. There are some unique items on the menu like the "el pastor" or the "Hawaiian fajitas". As soon as we were seated we were greeted by fresh house made tortillas with a giant bowl of salsa. Which we happily enjoyed. We did wait quite a while for our food, but it was worth it. We enjoyed a nice meal here last week. Our server was pleasant and attentive. With COVID capacity restrictions, we did have to wait about 20 minutes for a table on a Friday night, but we received text messages when they were ready for us, which made it convenient to walk around. Once seated, we started with a pitcher of Pina Coladas, and there was more than enough for 4 people, let alone 2! For our meals, I chose a "Wet" burrito with chicken which was enormous, and with the complimentary chips and salsa, I could only eat half. My friend decided on the combination dinner #5, which was 2 enchiladas (he chose beef), rice and beans. Everything was very tasty and filling! We've eaten at the restaurant before and the food was visually appetizing, plentiful, and flavorful. Ordering take out today was a vastly different, underwhelming experience this time. Perhaps we really didn't understand the lack of anything other than meat on the two ordered taco dinners. Literally, a few tablespoons of meat plopped into what is decidedly a commercial taco shell, as assumed by the bland rubbery texture. Each of the three-taco dinners came with a side of rice and beans, which probably were the tastiest part of the meal. It just did not seem worth a $15ish price for what each was. Seriously, for the $40+ we could / should have gone to Mighty Taco down the road and gotten a more appealing meal for 1/3 of the cost. I think MT takes x-fold more pride in their food. We understand the cost of everything has increased, but it all seemed so lazy and apathetic. Plop, plop. Here's your authentic Mexican food that looks like scraps from the previous order. This is the new version of La Galera, having moved on from its stand-alone building for many years into this strip plaza where the food remains as delicious, the service as reliable as ever, but with much more space. I personally despise cilantro, and they were able to serve me everything I wanted, including the dipping salsa, without cilantro for which I am grateful. La Galera was fantastic! Considering I'm not Mexican, and have never been to Mexico, it seemed very authentic. Everything on the menu is oversized and well worth the price. I was shocked by the quality and quantity. I got a single chicken taco and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. I'm kinda a soup connoisseur, and there's was amazing! 4 stars not because I had anything unpleasant to lose a star, just that I have my favorite Mexican restaurant by which I now compare all others. However, this restaurant is the favorite of the companion I was dining with that night, and if she were reviewing, the extra star would have been given! I've also had other friends comment that they love this place. This has to be by far the cutest, most colorful Mexican Restaurant I've seen, including those I've visited in New Mexico. The "paintings" on the tables and the booths instantly puts one in the mood for the ethnic flavors of Mexican food. 6 o'clock on a Saturday night gave us about a 10 minute wait. More than reasonable time. Everything was positive. The service, the food, drinks, chips and salsa. No complaints. The only thing that I am now used to and am disappointed when I don't get them.... the "street" style tacos popular in all of the taquerias that have recently popped up. Love them. Seems like the traditional Mexican restaurants still serve traditional soft rolled flour tacos or the hard corn shells, instead of the softly warmed corn shells that I've come to love. This is my go-to Mexican restaurant in Niagara County. The place has authentic Mexican food and friendly staff. I have never had a bad meal there. The place is decorated with Mexican décor and features designs on all the tables and booths. The prices are reasonable with decent size portions. I ordered the chimichangas. They give you two with the order and beans. They can come soft or fried and with beef tips or chicken. I did one of each fried and asked to have rice instead. The food was delivered quickly as always and was delicious until the last bite. On the plate was also lettuce and tomato with sour cream and guac. My friend also ordered a side of queso to go with the complementary chips and salsa. The queso was good, but I am all about the salsa they give you. The salsa is delicious, just like what you would have in Mexico and not the chunky kind you find in stores. I wish they sold it in jars to buy! Only a few friends like to go to Mexican restaurants, so I was so excited to be eating there, I forgot to take pictures! Definitely next time. This place has some of the better authentic Mexican food in the area. The service was very good and very fast (we were here around 4:30pm). I had a combination dinner which included an enchilada, a taco, beans & rice. I also got an extra taco on the side. The enchilada was made with ground beef and was very good but a little on the small side compared to other places I've been. The tacos were also very good. The beans and rice portions were adequate, about the same asost places. My wife had the chicken fajitas which I tasted a little of and they were really very good! Only critique with those is that they only give you 2 small soft shells to make your fajitas. With the amount of meat, peppers and onions you get, you really need 3-4. I have loved La Galera for years. Recently I ordered food to go and realized I've never left a review! Here's my experience specifically on their take out (but I will very briefly say I always enjoy dining in and the place can get quite busy! however food always comes out accurate and quick) Placed order over the phone during the evening and was promptly ready in the 15 minutes they gave me. The place was pretty busy, but the food was packaged and all ready to go when I came in. Cashed out nice and quick. Great experience. I was thinking when I ordered I was bummed we weren't dining in because who doesn't love their free chips and salsa? I was overwhelmingly surprised they provide that for their to go orders! Freaking massive paper bag of chips and little container of salsa (next time I'd kindly ask for two salsas). Free! Order was accurate and delicious. Fajita chicken taco bowl minus sour cream, added the guac. Also got an a la carte chicken and cheese burrito with a side container of guac. The taco bowl was really good. Not super crunchy shell (how I personally like it), and very tasty. Definitely worth the price. Burrito was very tasty. If you don't have a huge appetite, a single burrito would get the job done. Only downfall I'd say is parking in that area can get a bit packed so if someone in your party has trouble walking, perhaps drop them off and then save yourself the trouble and park wherever you can. read more
