Prices change constantly -- empanadas and ham & cheese croissants go up 50 cents to $1 from one day to the next. Customers are always asking how much things cost because nothing is consistent. Service is rude and unprofessional. The bread is good, but the inconsistent pricing, cash-only policy, and bad attitude make it not worth it. Muy decepcionada. 3.5 Parking in the area of this bakery wasn't easy but luckily found a metered spot by the corner. At the corner is a sit-down restaurant and next door is the brightly lit bakery. Had a wheelchair that evening and it wasn't hard to enter, esp with help, but not a lot of space inside to maneuver. Instead of looking at the display cases together, we just picked a table so we wouldn't block the walkways as much. The bread baskets don't match the labels in front of them (and since we were unfamiliar, we were ordering by what was displayed)- found out for most that they were out or didn't match what we thought it looked like- so ended up with 1 pc of bread. A lot of baked items and pastries- mostly labeled which helped. The spinach pie was pretty good when warmed and was a large slice. The flan wasn't too sweet which was good for me. Nice local uruguayan bakery in Jackson Height that definitely is a go-to spot for the neighborhood. Came here with a friend who's partner is Argentinian and loves the spot. I got the guyaba pastry which was good, but I think if I ordered again I would get something with dulce leche as my friend's pastry was phenomenal. The cafe con leche was adequete. I stumbled into this place after an unsuccessful quest for cupcakes one dreary night. It has "bakery" in the name, but this is not just a bakery. It's a bakery, restaurant and sports bar rolled into one. You can root for your favorite soccer team on their wide-screen TVs while savoring an assortment of pastries, eating lunch or sipping a cocktail. Maybe even all three. I came in for some cake, but was pleasantly surprised by the entire atmosphere. It was notable that they had team memorabilia for sale and a giant espresso maker that I mistook for a trophy proudly sitting atop one of the display cases. Since we were both unfamiliar with Uruguayan cuisine, but we wanted to try authentic desserts, we asked the staff for help in navigating the large variety of beautiful pastries in the display. She was very friendly and helpful, and made some excellent recommendations. Aside from the alfajor, I do not remember the names of the two pastries, one of which was like coconut macaroons with a caramel filling and a second pastry filled with a dulche de leche ribbon and chocolate. Each of the pastries was delicious and fresh. The alfajor was light and airy, and the dulche de leche was sweet and rich-- this was my favorite! I likewise liked the second dulche de leche pastry, but the amount of filling aired on the side of too much. My friend liked the coconut pastry more since he's never been a fan of dulche de leche or caramel. All together, three pastries cost a little more than $4 and they were enough to satisfy our sweet tooths for the evening. The pastries appear small, but they pack a punch. The overall value in this economy is simply fantastic and I cannot wait to come back to try more very soon! read more

I absolutely love this place. They have the best breads, pastries, sandwiches, and cappuccino! They also have fresh squeezed juices but they're a bit pricey. The interior used to have lots of tables but now it's about one sixth as many due to Covid-19 safety recommendations. They have TV's usually watching the soccer/football (depending on how you prefer to reference it) match. They have tons of sports memorabilia but I'm not sure if some of it is for sale. There's a unisex restroom for customers located near the rear of the space. If you wind up in the farthest nook, you went too far! As soon as you walk in, to the right is the wall and tables and chairs against it. To the left you will find everything worth ogling. I highly recommend trying their cappuccino with some cinnamon. It's delightful. And they have these caramel round sweet treats that pair well with the cappuccino. Every once in a while I'll get their tuna fish sandwich. It is my favorite. They have others with ham, but I don't eat ham so that is off the table for me. The staff are super helpful and friendly. The lady behind the counter immediately started wrapping it in a to-go box so I informed her we would be staying, to which she responded that they were closing and we couldn't stay. I looked around and saw that there were other people still eating. This was around 9:15 PM. A little while later, they started closing the lights and kicking people out. Food wise, this place is great. The desserts are delicious and affordable. However, the way they treated their customers was unprofessional. Am almost ashamed to admit it, but aside from the occasional exception like say, Middle Eastern Knafeh, or Japanese Cheesecake, for years, I limited myself to Western European and American baked treats. I'd convinced myself that everything else just wasn't worth the calories. What a xenophopic loser, I know. But I finally saw the proverbial light and have to credit the dreamy Tres Leches Cake from Harlem's Tres Leches Cafe, for helping me do so. It opened my mind to all the possibilities I'd been passing by. Such as bakeshops like this: Anyway, hubby and I happened to stop in here during prime soccer, (or should I say, futbol?) watching time. The game was airing on four different large flatscreens and most of the customers were riveted. As for moi, I was more focused on the HUGE selection of baked goods, made even more overwhelming because almost nothing is labeled. (ITA with Julia S. on this)! Here's what we ultimately wound up getting: Baked Empanadas: Am all about diversifying my kid's lunchbox options, so I got a bunch of Empanadas, mostly for him. Though Mama got to enjoy a few too, and I have to say, these are the best *Baked* Empanadas I've tried; especially their impressively flaky crust. The Chicken was my favorite, which I enhanced with a generous drizzle of hot sauce. Beef was good too; just know it includes lots of chopped hard boiled egg and sliced green olives. May as well also mention the Spinach filling, which tasted as if it contained some sort of cheese, just in case you happen to be vegan. Mystery Dulce De Leche Cake topped with Chopped Nuts: Like I said, not much is labeled. So I have no idea what it was, but when I asked the counter person to recommend something that featured Dulce De Leche, she went with this. I expected it to be overly sweet, but happily, it wasn't. Very moist, even after a couple days in our fridge, too. Tres Leches Cake: I was afraid this would not even come close to my beloved iteration from Tres Leches Cafe. But you know what? I really liked this! A lot. While my gold standard, has an almost tropical sumpin' sumpin, thanks to coconut milk, this one relies on layers of whipped cream and of all things, canned fruit. Plus, it's topped with finely chopped nuts, in case you're averse or allergic. Like the above 'Mystery Cake,' this also showed restraint with sugar. Bottom line: This bakeshop has a vibrance that reminded me why I'm a Queens fangirl to the nth degree. Plus I liked the Tres Leches Cake so much more than I thought I would. It feels like a high four stars for now, but am sure it'll tip up to five once I work my way through all the various treats.:) read more

Beautiful and spacious Uruguayan bakery in Jackson Heights that has a wide assortment of pastries. The cakes looks beautiful as well as all the individual baked goods. I ate a dulce de leche roll and an Uruguayan pastry that was mostly fresh cream. The only problem is that nothing is labeled so it's hard to tell what I'm looking at and ordering. This is easily one of my favorite bakeries in Jackson Heights. Their pastries and baked goods are all pretty authentic, freshly made and quality things made using actual South American recipes and ingredients. Most of the stuff here is Colombian and Uruguayan. They used to be a separate restaurant and bakery, but they have since come together and thus brough their respective spaces together, this contributes to a series of pros and cons... Pros: * Delicious foods - sweet AND savory. * Great beverages. * Ample seating room if you're alone, with a significant other or a group of friends. * Not too loud and an amazing smelling atmosphere. * Friendly employees. * Open pretty late. * Really great coffee. * Amazing bread selection, no seriously, BREAD is life. Cons: * Although employees are friendly it is sometimes super hard to get their attention, even if the place is empty. I speak fluent Spanish and sometimes I get exasperated after waiting 10 minutes for a cookie or a piece of cheese bread...but I wait it out and return repeatedly because the stuff they make IS THAT GOOD. * Let's talk empanadas. I'm Colombian, grew up with them ever since I was old enough to correctly process solid foods and I can make em' myself - does this make me an authority on empanadas? Yeah, well...sorta. The empanadas here are pretty flipping awful. * Empanadas here are cheap, that's great, but their fillings are just NOT good - who mixes beef with raisins? Why is the beef weirdly mushy?! Go to Mama's Empanadas nearby to get your empanada fix - they totally know what they're doing and they have trigo (wheat), maiz (corn) and baked varieties with 50+ different flavors/combinations/fillings and they're made FRESH TO ORDER, unlike the ones here where they will ask you if you want them warmed up and if you say 'yes' they will nuke em' in a microwave for a bit - microwaving them makes them SOGGY and weird after they've been sitting there under a heating lamp. Blech. Now, notice that although I elaborated more on the "Cons" section, I named more "Pros" - let that guide you. This place IS great because of the variety of stuff they sell and the quality and care they put into things like ingredients, recipe, presentation, etc. Just avoid the empanadas here and be nice, yes PERSISTENT, when trying to order and you'll be fine. read more

Dulce on dulce - the same way you'd find in Montevideo or Buenos Aires. If you don't like caramel, stay away, but otherwise the medialunas with dulce, the churros with dulce, and the alfajores (by definition with dulce) are all spectacular here. I love this place for a little sweet and cafecito time. Side note: I am so glad they are finally accepting cards! Their sandwiches de miga and slices of Matambre are a must at our family parties. Hands down the best apple turnover in NYC. Incredibly flakey and apple-y with just the right crunch of sugar on top. Everything is delicious (though to my taste the guava pastries are a bit too sweet, they're still beautifully prepared). It's worth a strenuous workout to get rid of the COVID-15 weight gain just so I can sample my way through the pastry case. During the worst days of COVID, the bakery stayed open (and spotless), enforcing strict policies on distancing and masks. But they did it so pleasantly. They were one of those places carrying on business as normally and as kindly as possible, and really helped bolster hope we'd get thru it all. In three months, I've been here probably 15 times, though my Yelp check-ins a little lacking to prove that. This has become the go-to for a weekend lunch option, because the empanadas are ridiculous. They're baked, not fried, so they're a little drier in the middle. The spinach, chicken, and beef are awesome. They usually ask if you want them warmed up, and the answer is always yes. Awful experience. I used to but different desserts, occasionally, normally the quality of their cakes and desserts were pretty good. On 08/08/17 around 4pm I went to get a birthday cake, I took it home and refrigerated the cake until later that night that we will cut the cake. At the time of cutting the cake we found out that it was had mold. The whole cake had green spots on the inside. I wonder how long was the cake in there. The same night I went back to the bakery, and told the guy that they cake was decomposing; to which he replied "how much it was?" He reimbursed me the money and not even an apology. I've been going to this bakery to get my morning coffee (when i'm out of coffee at home) for over a year now. I find it convenient as it's en route to my daughters school. I sometimes order their pollo or chicken empanada and I had just discovered the guava pastry which I very much enjoy! I had a terrible experience today though. I told the lady "Can I please have coffee." and she misheard what I said for an ICED coffee. I told her I wanted it hot and I'm pretty sure with the tone of her voice, I got scolded at this morning. She said, "next time, just say coffee" she said it so loud that all the people waiting in line heard. She also said other things but I felt so embarrassed and upset to continue listening. I was really just trying to be polite when I placed that order. I made a decision right then and there that it would be my last time supporting this establishment but I just couldn't let it slide without coming to my defense. I told her "I never asked for an iced coffee, I simply said can I please have coffee and I'm Filipino so I don't speak Spanish." I would give this place four stars, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I've come in several times, and usually I am just completely ignored. The last time I went, a very surly female employee just sort of stood near the display our group was looking at. Our little group speaks Spanish, and I really don't know how well you would fare here si no hablas español. When we asked questions about some of the pastries, she would respond with one word answers. And she's a "low talker." We could not hear what she was saying at all, and she honestly just did not give a fuck. When we finished miming and pointing and yelling over the ridiculously loud music, she took our stuff to the register and just stood there. It was awkward. So my friend handed her a twenty and we all hoped for the best. She never gave us the total, but she just handed over the change and the pastries, and we bounced. A little more about the bakery itself: The music here is outrageously loud, so it's not conducive to sitting down with a coffee and a pastry to read and relax. It's pretty small, but one wall is lined with small tables, and the place could seat about 10-15 people. It's a big spot for other Uruguayans/Argentineans to hang out. They specialize in Uruguayan desserts, but they also sell empanadas and croissants. They have the tiny versions of flan, cakes, cookies, etc, and these are sold at $9.99 a pound. They sell large cakes and dulce de leche filled churros, yuuuuuum. I highly recommend any and all dulce de leche filled or covered desserts. They are heaven on earth. It's really a shame that their customer service is so abysmal, but if you suck it up, you can really succeed at fattening yourself up on yummy dulce de leche treats. read more
