Traveling from out of state and was looking for a local cafe that offered small meals. The front of store is beautifully decorated and inviting. The staff all had the same cute outfits on, very friendly and attentive. I love the observation window to allow guests to watch the beautiful dessert creations being made. I decided to order a hot chocolate because I don't drink coffee, but they have a wide selection of beverages to choose from. My drink was delicious, decorated with a little bear in the cream, not overly sweet. I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries in addition to chocolate croissant to go everything was delicious. I finally came here after seeing their amazing pasties on Instagram! We decided to do brunch and arrived after 11 AM, but it was already packed, so we had to wait about 20ish minutes for a table, since the place is not that spacious inside. From the outside, I love how they decorated it with hearts and flowers, which I think were for V-Day, and it had cute little benches for a great photo op or just waiting for your table. Continuing with the theme, as you enter, you're greeted with flowers on the ceiling. The first thing that caught my eye was the savory croissants! They all looked amazing, and I was already drooling. We sat down at our table, which was small and barely had space to fit everything once we ordered; you'll understand once you see the pictures. Our waitress was friendly as she greeted us. Looking over the menu, it was hard to choose since there were so many options and everything looked good. I got the iced mocha, which was ok. For food, we got the Big Waffle Brunch Platter and Nutella Pancakes with Ice Cream. It was a bit early for ice cream, but it went so well with the pancakes, which were thick and fluffy! I love how they have fresh fruits as well. The presentation was pretty too. I enjoyed everything, but couldn't finish it all since it was a lot. went to this bakery to see what the hype was about it. 1st impression from outside look really nice.As a wheelchair user they have back to back pull metal doors . So if u in a wheelchair u are not coming in with help. A customer actually had to struggle with me to help me in. The inside is very nice decorated. The part where u order to go is very narrow, desserts looked yummy from the display. To me they have a glass that makes them bigger, If u paying with a credit card get ready to add 3 % to the shown price.I ordered 3 desserts and a ice coffee to go.I got a colombian blend coffee that was actually pretty good. Always wanted to try this place and this past Sunday I got to. Everyone was so welcoming and accommodated a table of 4 easily. The ambiance is very cozy and sophisticated, they had the soccer game playing in the back. Waitresses were very helpful and understanding with any dietary restrictions. The drinks did take a little to come out but nothing that I would complain about. The food service was quick and delicious. I got the yuca Benedict with shredded beef. Everything was soo flavorful and seasoned just right. Salad was lightly dressed but not overpowering. There were soo many pastries to choose from but we were soo full we grabbed some to go. Moldy raspberries and they did nothing about it .. hence this review .. the local 24/7 market has raspberries 4 pints for $1.99 so what this issue. They did nothing about it or say sorry or adjust the bill .. my wife must of ate 6 before I noticed the last two , hope she does not get sick. Unacceptable with the recent food issues that are well known in recent news. We told three employees and yet nothing. Ganache fruit pastries all around. These desserts were so beautiful to the naked eye, my friend and I were for sure eating with our eyes. Coming to Astoria we wanted to do brunch here. However, the line was always out the door every weekend. Social media hyped up this place well. To beat the traffic we came here after the dinner rush. Not many people know this place closes around 9 PM. That's how we snuck in to get our dessert fix. The staff was very nice to tell us which were the most popular desserts. The orange creamsicle ganache and the passion fruit pastry were the top sellers. Eventually, we'll get to their brunch. I came here a few times for brunch, and while the food was okay, the service was often quite slow and the wait times would go up to a your for a table for two. The last time, as I was waiting for a table, I saw multiple people coming and going from tables, sitting down and leaving without ordering, and people taking up seating space with their bags and belongings. Which usually wouldn't be an issue, except for the fact that the staff didn't seem to care enough. However, their coffee is good, their desserts are not bad at all, and their croissants are well-filled. Two BEC arepas. Within a short time, the food waswere brought to us. The arepa was light, bacon crispy but not burnt, egg soft & fluffy with cheese. Overall a very well made sandwich. I had some extra time to check out brunch spot and my friend could not have picked a better place than Jhoanes Bakery and Coffee. Upon arrival, the restaurant was decked out in Christmas decorations and the interior showcased previous themes of the cafe. The aesthetics of the desserts matched the atmosphere as well and they looked so gourmet and delicious! My caramel macchiato was adorable with a flower foam and provided the instant caffeine fix I needed in a small cup. My other friend's lattes I've tried were cafe lattes with lavender, and their Mocha. Their mocha is very sweet, so I probably wouldn't suggest it if you don't like overly sweet coffee. Prosciutto Benedict Toast (4/5): I liked the strawberries with the prosciutto as the meat and cheese cubes were salty. My eggs were perfectly runny and the bechamel was perfectly creamy. So glad to have dined at Jhoanes bakery and coffee. They turn desserts and turn simple breakfast items into luxury! Stopped in to pick up the "viral" fruit shaped pastries at my daughter's request. The place looks great and the display cases leave your mouth watering. Service was a bit hit and miss for me. There was a line and the woman ahead of me got her order but stopped to commiserate with the woman at the register. Raspberry was the star out of the three but I was underwhelmed. They lacked the flavor they looked to be packing. I felt it was missing so much more then how they were presented. These beautiful pastries looked like what I wanted in taste but I just didn't get it and it was a fail for me. My daughter felt the mango was the star over the others but she enjoyed them all and she was happy to finish them, too. They're filled with cream and fruit and there is a thin shell (white chocolate maybe?) surrounding it keeping the respectful fruit shapes. I took the plunge after she hyped it up. It wasn't to sweet or overpowering. Same with the mocha latte. The raspberry mousse dessert was okay. You can taste the raspberry flavor but it is light on taste(not a flavor bomb): a white chocolate casing stuffed with a light cream/mousse. It's not memorable but pretty to look at. This is my second visit and review as I am eating here. As much as I raved in my first review as I was extremely happy with food quality and service, I am equally disappointed with food & service this time. Ordered a Croque Monsieur and 3 empanadas and latte . Hardly had any bechemel on the sandwich and no flavor. Bread tasted stale, not sure because it was not toasted well. I had to use hot sauce and the empanada's green sauce to eat it. The green sauce too wasn't the same taste as last time. Tasted more creamy, lacking flavor and spice. Service was surprising unwelcoming. One of the sever had a straight face and unhappy. My husband' said that's because I asked too much. It is wrong to ask for water after sitting down and waiting for my order when it's record heat outside, asking for hot sauce or the green sauce because my order has no favor or asking for our third empanada when we they served only 2!!! In fact I've already made a reservation for December LOL these were hands down some of the best stuff croissants I've ever had in fact I don't think I've ever had a stuffed croissant like that. And their fruit and their food and their service and their Ambience it was all absolutely wonderful. I cannot wait to go back for four people I'm surprised by the amount of stuff that we got how not expensive it was. Customer service here is total garbage. 4 people behind the counter and no one can help me for 10 minutes. I just wanted pastries to go. No heating, no special drinks. The employee taking orders is handling 1 customer at a time; no sense of being able to multi task. I asked how long it's going to take, they did not give an answer other than, "after I finish taking care of them". I walked out. I'm heading to Paris baguette now. I've tried this bakery before, their imitation fruit items are not high enough quality to deal with abuse of that degrading wait. EDIT: in response to owners comment. If there are FOUR people behind the counter, the proper customer service would be to at least acknowledge a waiting customer. There is no OBVIOUS line either. This issue was persistent from when you first opened. No sense of organization or order. Your ONLY saving grace is that you copied the fruit desserts from California. That's it. Good luck with your business, I hope your front end staff does not cause you further issues in the future. read more
