Was in town to do business and looked up on yelp a location for lunch. I found this spot and was immediately drawn in by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. This place was packed almost every table was full. We were immediately greeted, seated and brought chips, salsa and our drink order was taken. I ordered the pork tamales with rice and beans and my other party ordered a chicken quesadilla. Our server was the owner and he brought us another round of chips salsa and topped off our water and ice tea. Then our meal arrived shortly afterwards. The pork tamales were freshly made and full of lightly seasoned pork drizzled with red sauce. So good. The rice was very light with a hint of garlic and chicken broth flavoring. It was fluffy and seasoned perfectly. Refried beans were very thin not the heavy kind with a white cheese melted over them. This plate was exceptional and I would definitely order again. After briefly chatting again with the owner I let him know that I we were regulars at the Wichita Falls location near shepherds Air Force Base, which happened to be where his brother was working. We had no idea they had this location in Lawton Oklahoma. We will definitely be back next time we are through on business. These are some hard-working individuals at both locations. Found this place while in Lawton and wanted to try a different Mexican restaurant. It's located on the north side of the Lawton Mall. We arrived around 6:30pm and there wasn't much people there, should've be our first clue but we went anyways. Wife and I were quickly seated, chips and salsa was brought out promptly. Chips are crisp but we both didn't care for the salsa as it was more of a sweet flavored without any kick. The wife ordered the steak quesadillas which had plenty of meat in them but the cheese wasn't too our liking. I had the chicken soup / Caldo De Pollo, had good flavor with plenty of shredded chicken, zucchini, carrots and potatoes and some corn. It was served with rice, which was moist and delicious. First time, I have a longstanding rule that I always give a place a second chance if I don't care much for it the first time. Some things that need to be fixed: - Salsa served with the very nice chips (not greasy, but fresh and crispy) has a strange fruitiness about it and no heat. Kind of bland. - Tamales de puerco had a different sort of red sauce, not the typical Tex-Mex chili. A nice change. However, the sauce was rather bland. That's a good thing because the tamales were not, you can taste the pork. Rice was salty. - Another in the party had sopes which had a chicken and tomato and lettuce topping. More like a tostada. Bland. No heat. Overall, the menu items could use a bit more heat or seasoning but not so much that it gets away from true Mexican cooking. As a Mexican who is constantly in Oklahoma due to my partner being here, I have tried so many different Mexican restaurants from Lawton to OKC to try and get my fix and each place has failed...... until La Grand Cantina. It's a tucked away spot in a seemingly shut down mall, but once you find it.... Oh let me tell you it is worth the trip. Reasonably priced food. Good drinks. Seems like they have a pretty great happy hour as well. I ordered Arroz con Pollo, absolutely delicious. My partner got chicken fajitas, he devoured them. The appetizer, which was Queso, also so good. Our server, Victor, was very kind and responsive as well. I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to find food this good in such a small town. If you're looking for some great comfort Mexican food, give this place a shot. Only thing I will say is that they might need to hire more people soon with food this good! I wasn't sure what to expect when I drove up to a half dead mall and saw my destination was located inside the sad structure but this was a great stop and I highly recommend. The restaurant is in the small side but they have bar seating and mix of tables/ booths. What sticks out the most is how kind everybody is. I had the absolute best server (Leo) who has the perfect personality for this job and when I ordered my skinny margarita, the bartender himself, delivered it and ensured I was happy with the beverage as there is no premade mix and it's a by hand beverage. The drink was perfection, but had I not liked it, the bartender was postured to make any needed corrections, what a pro move. You receive complementary chips and salsa upon arrival, the chips are nice and light and the salsa is mild and tasty. I ordered several things from the side dish menu to include some thing I've never had before which is an avocado enchilada, and it was surprisingly delicious. The green sauce on top and the flavor combo is spot on. I I got the shredded chicken taquito as well, the taquitos are not like the dime, circumference taquitos you might be thinking of, these are almost oval, in shape are packed with tons of moist meat, I would definitely make this a meal combo in the future, and add some sour cream and guac on the side. My least favorite was the ceviche tostada. The contents would have done well in a shrimp cocktail but lacked the flavor/crunch/ and freshness of a ceviche but hey, it is Oklahoma. Came here the day after they opened. We actually didn't know they were open yet till we walked through the door and smelled the food. We were seated immediately with our drinks taken right away. Our server was superb. She was very friendly and extremely helpful, helping my wife find something to eat. The menu was a little light on options but our server said as business picks up the menu would expand. The salsa was a little bland but the chips were very good. A nice atmosphere, cool bar area to watch the game and great service. We started with queso Al Horno and chicken Gorditas good combo and wonderful flavor but filling for three people. We had three entrees: Taco authentic with shredded cheek like street tacos with cilantro, onion & lime. Great texture and portions, the corn tortillas were fresh and just the right onion-cilantro ratio to beef. Tamales with red chili sauce, I liked that it's NOT can Hormel beef chili with cheddar cheese. It was RED chili sauce and white shredded cheese(not a whole lot of cheese-good thing). Pork was good but the meza was thick. Meza had good flavor the ratio to pork wasn't to my liking. Carane Asada nice plate presentation, came with flour tortillas that were fresh. Drizzled with chimichurri and sour cream. It was good, not the usual way I am use to it being served, still good! OH chips and salsa came first and we ALL loved the salsa. After a long trip to Oklahoma from Tennessee we decided to eat here because it was so close to the hotel. The restaurant was kind of hard to find but found inside the mall. The lighting was so soothing and nice. The food was phenomenal, I had the 2 chili reallanos and it was delicious. The service was amazing, the server didn't hover or try and talk to us when she didn't have to which is what we prefer. She kept our drinks full. The only reason this is a four star review is because they didn't have alcohol which wasn't their fault, our beautiful server said it was due to a permit issue. It was absolutely amazing, quiet, great music, not busy at all. If I'm ever back in Oklahoma (I won't be) this is where I'll be eating. read more
