I ordered a jalapeño and queso pupusa and it was delicious and well flavored. Not greasy at all!!! We also ordered fish & rice but it was a bit salty for me but well cooked and large portions. Definitely family friendly and great for large groups. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only complaint was that it was a bit warm but other than that a great experience. So as my meal was being prepared I prayed to the pupusa god, hoping my pupusas were closer to homemade and not greasy as so many other pupuserias are guilty of. Forgive them Pupusa god, they don't know what they do to my waistline. The common flaw pupuserias share is that their pupusas are greasy. You know those orange pools of oil that sit on the surface of pizza? Well the same orange liquid can be found on the pupusas, and the wax paper (some places use to serve pupusas on). Injury to insult, the greasy pupusas aren't even tasty. Tsk tsk tsk wasted calories. Yea, I like to avoid greasy pupusas. What is a pupusa? It's about the size of a pancake in diameter and width. All of the ingredients are enclosed by the corn meal. It's served with a coleslaw (curtido) and a salsa (with red chili peppers). Together, they form a trifecta of yumminess. A 2 quart container was brought to the table and tongs before the pupusas were served. You can serve as much of the curtido as you want. The container is transparent, the ingredients I was able to make out where vinegar, cabbage, carrots, and onions. I am sure there is other stuff too. Like other coleslaws, the flavor is a bit neutral. The salsa didn't set my mouth on fire, which my tastebuds appreciate. I thanked the pupusa god for providing me with three grease free pupusas, Revueltas, Loroco, and Friojole. Revueltas are a mixture of ground pork and cheese. Loroco is a vegetable (not zucchini though but another squash) with cheese. And frijole is the bean and cheese popusa. My favorite was the revuelta; the loroco was also delish. The walls are texture free, painted in gray. Every now and then a flower bouquet adorned the wall. A single flower in a vase, kept the salt and pepper company on the table. Mother Bear's dish was the chicharon with yucca. The chicharon was more like chunks of pork than just a fried pork grind, a pleasant surprise. The meat was well seasoned and tender. No teeth were chipped in the biting of the yucca. The yucca was lightly fried, golden brown on the outside, tender on the inside. Mother bear liked her dish. The manager's job description must read: hostess, cashier, janitor, and waiter. There were times we needed stuff and the waitstaff was occupied. The food outweighs the so-so service. I'm glad to have a place that serves yummy pupusas that don't need a napkin's assistance to de-grease. read more
