I know the name is Old School Burger but the owners are from Venezuela and they have some back home recipes. One of them is the papusaa. I ordered the Loco, off the menu, but from a trusted source. And a bottle of Modelo Negra to set the mood. The plate came out and the papusa was huge. Big as the plate. With a side of slaw and tomato dipping sauce. I was set. I'm not a slaw fan so sent that back but got to the main event quickly. The Loco Papusa had pork meat, beans, spinach and chz. It was amazing. We had a great meal at this cute little burger shop out in Katy. We had went at an off hour so there were not many customers at the time so we got to chat with Rocio. It sounded like she and her mom own the restaurant. It has been open for 3 years. The menu is quite impressive and we can't wait to come by and try more thing's. The first time I reviewed this restaurant, I was focused on pupusa but subsequently have been back for the hamburgers, which are absolutely wonderful. As well the service is incredibly efficient, friendly quick pleasant informative in summary. It's a wonderful dining experience. It looks a bit akin to a cafeteria style restaurant in terms of ambience, but that really does not detract from how good the food is. Frankly, the hamburgers are absolutely incredible and I would encourage everyone who is reading this to at least give them a try. This place is really unique; I haven't had quite an experience like this. I don't have a photo of the interior; however, there is a stark disconnect between the seating in the restaurant and the "bar" area. I am sure there is a story behind how all this happened, and I can tell the restaurant is doing their best, but it all results in an identity crisis. Are you a restaurant that serves food in plastic trays lined with paper, or are you a restaurant with wagyu beef and truffle burgers? I'm sure there's a way to meld the two, but this place doesn't quite pull it off. Very weird ambience. That being said, I don't care much about the ambience, or the service - which was awesome. There was one guy working the whole floor and he was extremely friendly and helpful. Quick, too. The food mirrors the ambience - great and well executed in some areas, fast food drivel in others. Let's start with the burgers - I got the mushroom Swiss, and my love got a double. We were asked how we wanted our patties cooked. Didn't matter, it all came out well done. DESPITE THAT, the burgers were well seasoned, juicy, hot, and the buns are toasted and taste homemade. These burgers WILL give you pause at the first bite. Nicely done. The fries are clearly bought in, and are nothing special. I got mine with brisket on top and while it was a nice addition, wasn't very good brisket or very bad brisket, just okay. The bbq sauce seems bought in and generic also, but it was all very hot and fresh, which I appreciate. I got one al pastor taco. The most flavorful aspect of it was the corn tortilla - the meat was dry, unfortunately, and I wouldn't order it again. Came in on a Saturday a little after noon and I was the only one there. You can pick wherever you'd like to sit (booth or table). It's very very clean there, they played good country music and had a tv in the corner playing a basketball game. I ordered the bacon avocado burger cooked medium with onion rings and a Pepsi. Food Took about 10 minutes to come out and within that time, 5 groups of people came in and started filling up the place. The burger was cooked perfectly, was seasoned well, very juicy and the bun was so soft. The onion rings were my favorite due to the light crunchy breading and I didn't even need any condiments, that's how flavorful these were.
