La Gratella is a small pizzeria/restaurant located in a strip mall on Rt 10 in Ledgewood. I had seen some nice reviews for this place and had it bookmarked for a while. This week, my wife and I had a chance to stop in for dinner. We were both very impressed by this restaurant. The food and service were excellent! I ordered a sausage and pepper sub. My wife had a tossed salad with the eggplant rollatini appetizer. The salad was huge and we wound up splitting it. We both found the food to be good and prices very reasonable. Next for us is trying the pizza. Lucky enough we found out they deliver to our area. Check out La Gratella! It's definitely worth giving a try!

Listen this place used to make some seriously amazing Pizza under the previous owner but that was then and this is now. Unfortunately the latest owners now make an average sort of Pizza that just doesn't do "IT" for Me okay. Although, this place always seems to be packed with customers so I don't know if maybe Bill's turning into a Pizza Snob or something even worse, but yeah, dang.    Anyhow I really wasn't too crazy with the Chicken Fingers I ordered here either so maybe I'm turning into one of those "Negative" kind of Yelp Reviewers who goes around telling everybody that all their stuff sucks in the most horrible kinda way possible. NO, please say it ain't so. Lol. Can that be what's happening here?? No Way, Not Me, Right?? I mean "meh" isn't even in My Freakin vocabulary Peoples. Well, I should clarify and say it wasn't in My vocabulary until I tried the food here. 2.6 Stars. Come And Get Your "meh" Munch On!!  ;D

We thought without a reservation at 7p on a Friday we would probably have to wait awhile, when we arrived the parking lots (front and rear) were nearly full so we expected a wait. We were pleasantly surprised how many tables were still open both inside and on the patio. We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the sides were just as good! Pricing was very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. We will definitely be returning.

My dining partner was happy with her calamari, that came in a plentiful portion. Service was fast on the beginning but we had to find the waiter to get our check. Asked in the beginning to split the bill, but waiter forgot ( I think out original waiter off shift) and we had to request it again. The slower service towards the end of the meal may be attributed to it being the middle of the afternoon, between shifts, and a slower period. My dining partner loves this place and had great things to say about the owner, and the support he provided front line workers during the pandemic. Ambiance is casual, with an extensive bar and seating. More parking in the back down the hill, in back of the restaurant.

We ordered mussels and bruschetta as appetizers. They were so good. The portions were very generous. Then for entrees, the 4 of us ordered Sea Bass, linguini with white clam sauce, penne vodka, and chicken marsala. My husband said the sea bass was one of the best he had ever eaten. My linguini was good but a little bit too salty for my taste. My friends' dishes were all very good. Ordered bread pudding and pistachio ice cream as dessert. Also excellent. The manager tried not to chase us out, but we could feel the pressure. Luckily we were understanding. Ended up we talked a little bit more in the parking lot... Overall an excellent meal. We will be back again.

The menu…read moreis extensive and I ordered the burrata special, papardelle with pink sauce, and a lava cake, and my favorite was the lava cake. The burrata was over heated so a bit too melted with broccoli that was a little too heavy on the garlic. The pasta itself tasted fresh but the sauce lacked flavor. The most disappointing was likely the service as our dinner took about 3 hrs and mostly because we'd be waiting for someone to come by to take our order for our meal and then for dessert. It was also hard to get water refilled to the point that I ended up just handing my glass of water to my friend. The final kicker was when we finally ordered dessert the waiter came back a few moments later with the check forgetting about the dessert. Our waiter was friendly but wondering if the place was heavily understaffed. Overall the vibe is very family friendly Italian food. While Im not sure Id come here again for a sit-down dinner, Id be interested in trying a pizza to go.

Cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful restaurant. This is the type of establishment that…read morereminds you of the good old days. The customer service is a time capsule of an era where a business strived to make your visit special and memorable with quality food and great service and not by some trend or gimmick. One thing that is not in the past is their skilled ability to provide a safe meal for those who are vegan, gluten free and or dairy free. I've never been to a restaurant that can turnout amazing authentic Italian food made with regular flour while also being able to provide a safe gluten free and or dairy free alternative of the same caliber. They have an efficient system that makes it clear there are people with dietary restrictions at the table and they take it very seriously. With all those great things to say, the food is what is worth writing home about. A gluten free chicken Parmesan that no one would ever guess was gf! A delicious gf df chocolate lava cake to end the meal was such a treat and was delicious. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and attentive, they're a well oiled machine! And it was very nice for the grandson of the original founders to walk around and talk to us, not just a how is everything tonight kind of stop either, he really took the time to make pleasant conversation about the World Cup and ask how our son did at his soccer tournament. They have been around for 56 years and if our visit was anything to go off, they'll be around for another 100 years!

Another review from a poor man. I will give this to you…read moreas the good and the bad and the overall of Mama's. The good. The staff is as attentive as they have always been. The way they show pictures of "today's specials" on an iPad type device is a nice touch. The meatball app had good flavor as well as the ricotta that came with it. The fiancé had the pear purse which is always a very good. Also the Eggplant Pisa salad that came with my lunch paring was very very good and I would eat it again!!! The bad. The meatball app, although tasty, was only two small meatballs (basically the size of a soup spoon!!) for 15 bucks. So I don't care for the cost compared to the value you get for it. Also I am a snob for chicken parm and this chicken was overcooked and dry. The bread crumbs were soggy and would have been forgiven if the chicken itself wasn't so overcooked and dry!!!! My over all is this. Been to mamas many times before this review and I think they are worth your time (even more so during dinner time!). They do more things right than they ever do it wrong. So I would still recommend going. I just wouldn't recommend it to the New Jersey Chicken parm Facebook page........
