La Grolla had the best fondue! We tried the traditional Quebec cheese fondue and also a mushroom version--both were absolutely fantastic. Andre, our wonderful host, guided us through the ordering process. At first, we were about to order way too much cheese fondue, but thanks to his advice, we saved room for the incredible filet of beef. The beef was served to cook on a hot stone right at the table--such a fun and delicious experience (you can see it in the photo!). Everything was top-notch, and the service was warm and attentive. This is a very rare one star review from me. The fondue is God awful. The one you get in a box from the supermarket is far superior. The traditional fondue was so bland that I needed to dump a bunch of salt and pepper in it to make it palatable. The bread was terrible. We've been here a few times already and had good memories. The quality has gone downhill. $89 for 3 centimeters deep cheese yuck and some greasy meats. In all my years coming to Quebec City, this meal earns last place. The service was neglectful. Our server was chatty with other guests and hardly bothered to scan the restaurant for anyone needing something. We abandoned most of the food and left hungry. Lesson learned. Avoid! We had three fondues to try, the Quebec Cheese, the Swiss Cheese, and the Chocolate. The Quebec and Swiss were delicious, very different from each other, and had a nice portion size for two people. The cheese fondues came only with bread, so we had to pay extra for the potatoes (microwaved in a very cute bag), vegetables, and apples. I would prefer to see them offer these items and more as part of the fondue, including grapes, strawberries, celery, carrots, etc. BTW, if you want apples, you need to ask as they don't come as part of the veggie plate. The chocolate fondue was a very small 1/2 cup of the best chocolate fondue I have ever had. Awesome quality, but not enough quantity. The restaurant is small but there is a family feel about it that makes the tight quarters fun instead of oppressive. We were here 20 years ago and came back this next trip. Still delicious cheese fondue and a lovely wine list. I was a tad disappointed in the chocolate fondue-who eats marshmallows these days? I like cake with my chocolate fondue but the selection of fresh fruits was yummy. We ended our night with a glass of cold poire William-a lovely end. Service was friendly and attentive. This was my favorite place to have dinner in Quebec, so far. My kids wanted to try fondue, and this place was near our hotel, so we tried it, and we loved it! The space is adorable, and there were lots of options for the fondue. We had the fondue bourguignonne (beef cooked in oil), La Quebecoise cheese fondue, and a small maple fondue for dessert. Great place for some fondue right near old town Quebec. They menu is large and has fondue choices for everyone plus some main dishes if you don't like fondue. The service was great and very helpful and the place looked like an old Swiss restaurant which was nice. The taste was solid. We got the traditional cheese and the traditional meat fondue. Came to La Grolla during a long weekend trip to Montreal and Quebec City. The last time I had raclette I was in the Alpes, so it was definitely something I was looking forward to. The atmosphere at La Grolla is extremely cute, it basically looks like a little mountain house out of a Christmas movie. This would be the perfect place to visit for an intimate dinner with your partner. The menu offers a pretty wide selection of Raclettes, Fondues and Bourguignonnes so it may take you a little while to choose. In our case, we ordered the "Bourguignonne authentique" and the "Raclette Valaisanne". I think this is a good choice if you are visiting La Grolla as a party of 2. The menu is definitely on the pricier side, as we ended up spending $56pp and only ordered one drink for the table (a beer). I was full after eating the potatoes and ordering some bread, but definitely didn't come out of the restaurant overfilled.  Worth checking it out if you are in the area. read more

Not many Yelp reviews but over (70) 4+ Star reviews on other sites. Based on that, stopped in and it was absolutely amazing! Two cheese fondue from Charlesvoix had a very mild Swiss cheese flavor. Learned they source it locally from the original owner of the restaurant. So nice! We ordered potatoes and mixed veges (mushrooms, peppers, onions, broccoli). Comes with bread. We cleaned the pot. So good. Local beers on tap and extensive wine list. Casual dress. Super friendly and helpful staff. A must stop for dinner if in town. Five + stars! read more

First time visiting after my favorite Montreal fondue restaurant was shut down due to the events of the past two years no doubt. This eatery is a nice walk since it's only about 1.5km away from the Chateau Frontenac in the center of Quebec City. While dining, we met a couple from Maine on their date night. The servers made the evening enjoyable despite being potentially short handed. The meat broth fondue was very nice, while the Gruyère cheese cubes fondue wasn't bad,it wasn't as good as the Montreal spot I usually visit. On your way back into the city,some of the roads were open to pedestrians only.Where you can find dessert to bubble tea,or a night cap. The area is quite walkable. read more

This place was the best meal in Quebec! We had 3 couples and 4 pots, and 3 raclette cheese..The raclette with potatoes was delicious and so was dipping the baguette in all the fondue. We all got fondue for 1 so that we could share. I had the hercules and loved the flavors. We also shared a bottle of wine. We tried this place for the first time yesterday. We were a group of 5 persons from Quebec City that love to try new restaurant and this one is in our city since 20 years (In a very touristic area). Our experience has been TERRIBLE and this is why : First : The service was pretty bad. Our waitress (a old lady) was terrible and made various comments about our sitting position (the 2 persons who was taking cheese fondue were not sit together....), about the logistic of the fondue equipment (the table with the wine, the beer, the water, the plates was pretty crowd) and treated us like children (we have late 20 mid thirties). Second : The Food is very good but not the SIZE !! I took the ''Triplette'' a fondue trio (Cheese, Chinese, Chocolate) and the others took different kind of fondue like the Classic fondue (very small), the classic Chinese (very small) and the Diablo Chesse fondue (who was NOT diablo at all.....). There was no side-dishes with the Cheese Fondue (except bread....) and the Chinese fondue was served with 4 different sauce, red onion sparkles, 2 pickles, 2 little white onion and a small salade. Because of my Triplette I ate enough...or kind of (I'm a girl with a good appetite)...but my friends who took only a fondue (for 1) were starving.....The chinese fondue included only 6 slices of beef big as a coffee plate... My chocolate fondue (dessert) was ridicule (see the picture). It's was for 2 persons because one of my friend took it also. It's 30$ if you buy it in the menu....but in our case it was included in the triplette....The size of the chocolat fondue is so small and the fruits.....no comments. Third : THE PRICE !!!! It cost me 104$ for a triplette, a beer glass and a bottle of wine (44$ : Fendant de Sierre....pretty good stuff). I don't mind for the beer and the wine...but around 40$ for the triplette it's really toooo expensive for what you get...I had to pay for an extra 6$ for 10 tinny cubes of Gruyere cheese with my fondue (6$ !!!!)......... My bill was the more expensive because of the wine...but each of my friend paid between 30-40$ for the fondue...again TOO expensive...they had to eat something else after.... Fourth : The Service AGAIN !! After the supper, we told the staff VERY GENTLY that we were not satisfied with our night..that the food was excellent but the portion too small and too expensive...a young lady and a men were very sorry about our experience..(nothing more). ......but as soon as we got off of the restaurant our waitress got out outside (it's winter here...around -20 celcius) to yell at us asking us what was our problem and telling us that ALL THE CUSTOMERS were normally pretty happy with the meal and the size of them. We try to give our opinion one last time (very politely) but the lady was still yelling at us outside... It's the worst service I've never had. Next time I will know what to do with my 104$ ! read more

We went here for Christmas Dinner while visiting Quebec City. Right away, we were greeted by Alexandra, who couldn't have been sweeter, friendlier or more helpful. She explained the menu and helped us make great choices to accommodate our vegetarian daughter and our gluten intolerant daughter. We really wanted to like this place but were ultimately disappointed. I am French and my husband is a Francophile that spent a lot of time in France and Switzerland so I guess we came here with high expectations. Our server was really nice and helpful but forgot multiple items and needed to be reminded. Regarding the meal, we ordered the onion soup and the tartiflette for appetizers, and the Grolla fondue (traditional Swiss cheese fondue with half Vacherin fribourgeois, half Gruyere) with a side of potatoes. The onion soup was a little too salty and the tartiflette was not made with Roblochon (so not a real tartiflette...). Then came the fondue: it tasted fine but the texture was really mealy. The bread was clearly thawed and cut way too big. Potatoes seemed old, one was even soft. We finished the meal on a high note though with their really good maple syrup fondue! And they even offered us a glass of port for forgetting the wine and potatoes. All in all it was ok but could have been better. read more

The one star is for the delightful waitress and the starter. From there it went downhill fast. We ordered 2 cheese fondues. Both of them were grainy and not smooth, this, I believe, is a result of overheated cheese. They were also uninteresting in flavor. The bread for dipping was very soft. I ordered a plate of vegetables to try and make it better, it did not help. In this city of fantastic bakeries , how could the bread NOT be crusty? The final strike was the amateur presentation of the dessert with a ham-handed covering of most of the simple cake with chocolate syrup. This was the most expensive meal of our 5 days here in Old Quebec ($140 for 2 w/ 1/2 bottle of wine,tax and tip) and definitely the least enjoyable. I hope the proprietor of this 60 year old restaurant was not in the kitchen this day and this was an anomaly. read more

We went to La Grolla on a friend's recommendation and enjoyed a delicious meal. It was a bit pricey, but we felt it was well worth it. Between two people we shared a fondue and a raclette, which is a wedge of cheese that melts under a heat lamp. It was incredible. This place was wonderfully kid-friendly and great atmosphere. It is walking distance from the tourist trap restaurants. The place is small, so make a reservation. But, when they didn't find ours, they did an amazing job of accommodating us anyway. Also, don't eat too much cheese that you don't make room for dessert.
