I can't recommend this establishment. I don't even know where to start with this review. The food took forever to come up. I think the total amount of time spent for lunch was almost two hours and we didn't order cocktails or anything. It was just slow! Then, the food came out at different times. The staff didn't know who ordered what, combined with a language barrier, made it challenging. Note, the menu has no English translation so you either need to luck into a bilingual waiter/waitress, read Spanish, or be willing to experiment based on chance. The food itself wasn't great. We ordered appetizers and dishes. My main dish was chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was ok. The lettuce was old and brown. If at home I would have not served it. I also ordered a side of vegetables which came as a small bowl of mixed vegetables. I believe the vegetables were frozen and then just microwaved with butter. The vegetables included broccoli stalks (almost no floret), cauliflower, and carrots. Some of the vegetables were warm but there were spots that were ice cold. It was good but not amazing... I had the pollo empanado de plátano and it was good! Nice and crispy. My boyfriend ordered a mignon de cerdo in tamarind sauce, it was good also.. We both ordered mamposteao (one with blk beans and another with white beans, yes u can choose what bean u like which is cool) imagining it has to be awesome when the name of the restaurant is habichuela guisa and they have dancing beans all over the place but it was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. With a name which translates to "the stewed bean" I didn't expect much more than cocina criolla, but this establishment is so much more. It has indoor and outdoor bars/dining areas, a wine cave room, and a performance stage. Happy hour drinks start at $3 and happy hour prices extended until closing tonight. Their appetizers are delicious and humongous, but try and save some appetite for their main entrees, also generously sized. I loved their chorizo sautéed in red wine and the fried cheese with guava sauce among the appetizers we sampled. My girlfriend and I shared the mero empanado con pllatano (fried grouper fillet battered with plantain masa) and my sister had the fish ceviche appetizer with a side of yucca mofongo which was enough to share. We still pushed through satiety and concluded the meal with creme brûlée and guava flan and espresso coffee. We then moved to their outdoor bar area where we enjoyed a live performance by the superb duo of Maribel Delgado, a master cuatro and guitar artist, who accompanied a wonderful vocalist, Celenia, and they played two sets of lively Puerto Rican and Latin American popular songs with a lot of audience participation, including singing along, some dancing, and even a guest that played the bongo! read more

Authentic homemade food. Everything was fresh and delicious! The drinks were excellent also. I had a sangría and it was outstanding. As appetizer, we had the sorullitos and they were the perfect blend of flavors. The meal was just the right amount: I was able to finish it, but didn't have room dessert. My mother comes to this restaurant once or twice every week. I came with my boyfriend from the United States and this was our first stop. TWO WORDS: extremely disappointing It took forever to sit us down. There was a very large table that was empty. However they waited a good 15 minutes to sit us on that same empty table. Service: our first waiter who was a man took a very long time to get our drinks/appetizer order. Like 20-30 minutes easily. We then waited And waited. We noticed that people sitting after us we're already eating their main meal and we still have not gotten our appetizer. So we asked someone else to please check on our order. Long story short we got our appetizers 1 1/2 hrs (one and a half hours) after getting to the restaurant. This is simply ridiculous. After this we no longer had the same waiter. After eating the appetizers the same thing happen with the food. They forgot about us and when they finally brought our food some of our dishes were cold It is very likely to the fact that they probably forgot our order and our food was just sitting there in the kitchen getting cold and no one brought it out to us. My mother greatly apologized since she comes here often and pointed out that many of the servers that usually take care of her we're not there on that day. But that should not matter. Service is service. On this day the service was lousy, terrible, horrible, and very lacking. Food: Flavor is OK. My sister in law's dish as well as my main dish were cold so we had to send them back. My boyfriends beans also cold but he didn't like them anyways so we didn't do anything about it. My mother liked the fish she ordered. My niece doesn't understand why her grandmother likes this place so much. And neither do I. I had the Plato Navideño (pastel and lechón) which was bland. The lechón was hard , cold and not the lechón I was expecting. The pastel was not good either. I barely ate. Bottom line: it was a terrible first experience. After searching for a place to eat in the area I yelped and found this place. The staff was friendly and all smiles. It was busy we were there around 6:45-8:25 pm ishhh. Our waitress was Alexandra and she was friendly and prompt w our order. Everything we ordered was right and delicious. The portions are very good for the prices. Food presentation was modern and beautifully presented. The only thing that was not perfect was that we didn't get the avocado we ordered with the food when it first came out, however when the staff realized it before we did they brought it out and did not charge us for it. It was ripened to perfection. The restaurant offers self park or valet, either way once again great service. I would recommend making a reservation and arriving ahead on days that they are busy, but for us with no reservations at 7pm on a Friday night was just right, they did get busy within the 1/2 hour after. All of the food was excellent, and we had mentioned when we came in that we had a window of time to eat before getting to the airport, and they made sure to help get the food out and moving. All I can say is that I do not recommend this place to take family or even eat the food. Awful service and food. Asked for a Cesar's salad and chicken never have I had such a terrible salad for such a simple dish to prepare. My husband had a beefsteak with onions, rice and beans also horrendous, no flavor whatsoever. Most of the food was burnt and dry and flavorless. We had supposedly fresh coconut water that tasted like water from a pond. Totally disappointed with the food and service. The food is good nothing amazing. We had a skirt steak and fish. The food was nothing special. Just common latin food. I've had way much better at other places. The problem was the service. They were made with rancid oil and left a terrible after taste for the duration of the meal, i showed one of the 4 waitresses that served us and she agreed, to my surprise we are paying for them. I have gone to this restaurant many times, but yesterday, December 23rd, was a disaster.We arrived at 7:15pm. We did not have a reservation because I never expected the restaurant to be so full on a Monday. I have never been to this restaurant where we were not immediately accommodated. Explaining the restaurant was full, the manager/owner shepherded us to the restaurant next door saying that it was the same thing and we could order off the Puerto Rican menu from la Habichuela Guisá. It was a bad decision, and a bad choice for us. We repeatedly had to ask for the status of our appetizers and our food. They came piecemeal. At 8:30pm, when we threatened to walk out, the main courses started appearing one by one. We cancelled one plate and had to send one back because it was not edible. I talked to the owner at length. I told him that had he explained upfront that the food would be at least 1 hour or more, we would have gone to another restaurant. After taking our order and serving us drinks, we were committed. The food that actually arrived was good, but not great. I may go back to see if this was a one-time fluke or if the restaurant's quality has significantly deteriorated. I used to love this restaurant. In the way of an apology, we were offered two free beers after dinner. I realized the manager/owner has a lot to learn about how to handle an unhappy customer and make sure that he or she comes back. An apology is often not enough! read more

Placed order for delivery and food was never delivered!! We called and placed an order for delivery, anticipating its arrival as we were very hungry. Our total and order items were confirmed but we were never given an estimated arrival time. An hour went by and we called to check on how the order was doing, a man answered and told us the order was on its way. We proceeded to wait 45 minutes more (1hr a 45 min total) and then called again. This time we were met with a busy signal. Not a family restaurant. Waiting area outside got all the smoke from outdoor smoking. Our kids had to breathe that. That should have been a sign to run away. We got here at 7:30 pm, were seated and waited half an hour for the server to take the order! Ordered mofongo and garlic shrimp to go. Specified that shrimp should be separate from mofongo, to take it to my parents. Dad loves shrimp, mom loves mofongo but is severely allergic to seafood. After waiting TWO HOURS for the food, mofongo came topped by shrimp. (A total of 3 tiny shrimp!!! For $17. If mofongo by itself is $3.50, you are paying $13.50 for 3 tiny shrimp. Preposterous!). Cancelled the order. Also ordered BBQ ribs and got unseasoned ribs. Cancelled the order. Mofongo with chicken required a microscope to find the chicken. In sum, WORST service ever, OVERPRICED FOOD, MINISCULE PORTIONS and total disregard of food ALLERGIES. Go to any hole in the wall restaurant and you'll get the same Puerto Rican food, right away and reasonable portions. The only thing abundant in this place is rice and beans, everything else we ordered was ridiculously small portions. Taking our business elsewhere and DO NOT recommend this place. read more
