I hate this place. The only reason I ever go there it's to pick up food for someone else. The place is dirty, hot because they don't turn the A/C on, dark, poorly ventilated and the service is terrible. Hardly ever anyone serves you food with a smile. Everything is expensive. It's not gourmet food!!! It's normal every day rice and beans (gallo pinto) and normal meat or chicken. This place will change you $4.50 for a tamale (nacatamal) to take out but will charge you $6.50 for the same tamale if they serve it on a plate. While I'm Cuban and cannot speak from an authenticity stand point, I can tell you that from my Miamian standpoint la hormiga de oro gets the job done. I was skeptical about this place and the freshness of their food. Food tastes good and fresh. Ladies are nice. And it gives me my fritanga fix when I crave it. I prefer la fritanga caña brava in little Havana, but la hormiga is the closest to me and is the best in the area. Just another chance encounter with a really good restaurant. I has looking for parking to go to publix. I really did not feel like cooking, and was wondering on just buying one of those chickens that are already cooked. Well there was no parking close to the supermarket and the only spot was, you guessed it, in front of La Hormiga de Oro ( The Golden Ant). My husband was with me and we decided to give it a go. He was getting over a tummy flu so he wanted soup, I wanted beef. That is exactly what we got. He got a chicken and veggie soup with rice, I got the carne asada, with pico de gallo, fired cheese, and sweet plantain. We took it to go. Now I only had $15 bucks on me cash so I was a bit worried about not having enough and having to use my debit card instead. The total price came to a whopping $12 bucks with drinks. It is great when you get food that cheap. So we get home and dig in, the food was really good. they did not go cheap on anything. The soup was very hearty and my food was great. All of it was fresh, well prepared with just the right amount of seasoning. The staff is really nice and they do have tables for those who want to stay and eat there. I was there last week and I walked out, while I was waiting to order, one of the servers was putting salad from one container into another without any gloves just a pair of tongues assisted by her fingers to hold the veggies from dropping, some veggies did manage to fall on the counter and with her bare hands she picked them up and threw them back in the salad container that was pail nasty, need to say any more? no, too disappointed to return. read more

As much I love to come to this place I've decided not to for the numerous amount of bad experiences I've had in the last couple of times I've gone in to buy food! The last two times I've had several bad servers attend me waiting over 30 minutes to order and the waiting another 20-25 minutes to get my food yes the food it's great and it's lovely but I don't think it's necessary for them to be stingy with the chimichurri I don't think by giving 1-2 extra will throw off their numbers of cups and the last time I went was a little over 2 weeks ago I was walking in at 9:25 PM and I got told they were already closed when they had a huge sign on the window that they closed at 10 and I approached one of the ladies that was leaving and she screamed at me repeated times that they were closed next couple days I attempted to call and speak to a manager and had no luck either I was left on hold or I got told that they closing register because of the charge of shift so after that incident I decided not to go back anymore and just buy carne asada somewhere else read more

I've been to the Hialeah location and I must say, this location is just as good if not better! I stopped in yesterday for breakfast and I left very content. The breakfast is good, but the service is horrendous. The average waiting is 30-45 minutes on a day when the restaurant is empty. Waitress are very rude and no courteous at all. They take away the spices of your table without asking whether you have been served yet. We went there several times and their BAD service was consistent.
