    Crispy taco

This place took over the old Pantego Bay location a few months back and I finally tried it out. I had been dubious because in these parts a new place advertising it is TexMex is usually packed; never a crowd here. Now they primarily represent them selves as a seafood place. It is obvious they are either indifferent or undercapitalized. It is unfortunate they opened just as Covid hit. But this has always been a weird choppy building; the covered patio should be a big draw if they would hype it. But it looks like they just cleaned the place a bit; the bar is really small and claustrophobic and they should update that old epoxy bar. They have spent little outside with the sailboat still parked in front, the pantego bay awning in place with a piece of ripped paper partially covering the old logo. Just take it down! I went in as it appeared there were a nice size crowd. I guess all the employees are parking up front as there were only three tables occupied. They have three primary focuses: Maria is (seafood cocktails, seafood dishes, and TexMex. I ordered a small shrimp cocktail, and a grande Tex mex platter of a crispy beef taco, a soft cheese taco, and swapped the beef enchiladas for cheese. Rice and beans. The chips were average and salsa basically seemed to be a mild Sysco type. At least doctor it up with a couple fresh jalapeños and cilantro. Hmmm. The sweet tea was ok. The shrimp cocktail arrived. The server had not been able to tell me if the shrimp were large or small, fresh or frozen. The shrimp were smallish, at least they were deveined, and were fine. The sauce was sweet and needed lemon, some onion and chilies, and cilantro. Had zero heat which was to be provided by the bottle of Valentina hot sauce that came to the table with the saucer of saltines. Looking at it the bottle top was fouled with caked old sauce. Can you not clean the bottle before bringing to my table? Indifference from management. Wtf? This is how you're serving you're signature dishes? Every restaurant near you is packed, look in the mirror and figure it out. Here came the platter. The crispy Taco on a separate plate. This was the best item served. Too much emphasis these days on "street tacos" but few things can satisfy on a great crispy taco. The ground beef was plentiful and seasoned, the scoop of guac well done and fresh,-and the crisp lettuce, cheese, and tomato practically a salad. If the salsa had been better it would have been perfect. The cheese enchiladas are a bit different. They need onions. Instead of a chili gravy this was more a meat sauce, like most things here it needs more seasoning. The cheese taco was not typical, it was a cheese enchilada with grated cheese on it rather than queso. The rice was fine, the refried beans scorched. The platter was super hot, something not seen much these days.

Shrimp fajitas, with double beans instead of an order of rice.

Quest flameado is the best. My wife thinks their ceviche is the best. I don't understand why they are not busier everyday.
