There's not alot of places I can get mofongo at in Houston, so of course once we saw this place a few months away from our hotel we decided we'd try it out after a friend recommended it. Plenty of seating, place was clean, we were greeted when we walked in. Depending on what your ordering you'll go to either the counter to choose what you want in a box, or straight to the cash register. My mom got a box of pernil, rice, and plantano. While i got the a mofongo with shrimp with the tropico sauce. And WOW the Mofongo was delicious. Probably my favorite ever?! But also hard to say and unfair to compare to every other Mofongo I've had, since all the others ones were either with a garlic based or tomato based sauce. This sauce was Creamy and has peppers, cilantro and onion slices in it. It was so good I finished it all in the moment. This plate was $20, so do with that info what you will in regards to figuring out if it's a good price lol. The mashed plantain wasn't dry by any means, which can be an issue depending on where you go (but not here). They gave alot of shrimp, and also a side broth type thing to add if you wanted to. If I could I'd get it again. My mom's plate was also delicious! I looved the pernil. I had a bite of hers while waiting for the mofongo (took about 20 minutes for it to come out) and honestly for a second I regretted not getting the pernil mofongo. So whenever I come back to orlando/Kissimmee I'll try to remember to try the pernil one next!

SO GOOD ! After traveling all day, my family decided to get dinner here. We came because of the good reviews and it did not disappoint ! Food from back home We came an hr before closing so they didn't have all of their menu items out but still had plenty of variety. The food was so good and SO AFFORDABLE! Really felt like I was at a panadería or local restaurant in PR with the vibes and music. Definitely coming back !

Absolutely fantastic! Best food I've had outside of my family's. Customer service was perfect and it was so clean. Highly recommend!!!

    1. Park anywhere in front of the restaurant or around this strip mall style building. Seating and ambiance is reminicent of the cafeteria style business. You may ask the staff to pick your items from the commercial food warmers or go directly to the register and order a la carte, which we did. At the register they suggest a tip when you pay, but they only bring your food out and don't return for service. We love the mofongo. We order mofongo every time we are at a spanish place. Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish of mashed fried green plantains with broth, garlic, olive oil, and pork cracklings or bacon usually accompanid by shimp, or other tyes on meat. The plantains are mashed in a wooden mortar and pestle called a pilón and the dish is often shaped into a ball. 3. The presentation of the food was nice. Once we started eating we found that he food tasted well but it was not at par with other mofongo places. Both of our mofongos were warm and not hot, the pork ckackings inside were soft and did not add taste to the dish. The taste of garlic was absent. Overall the dish was ok, but mofongo is served hot for full enjoyment. I would go again. This is my second visit here, I think they can inprove on that famous, popular Puertorican delicious dish. Overall from 1 to 10, I give them a 6.

Pernil (pork) rice and beans and skirt steak with Mofongo and soup broth from heaven!

Our first dinner after a flight delay late arrival to Orlando. I wasn't as hungry as my wife and could have done chips and salsa with a Marguerita. So glad I insisted we try this strip mall restaurant while navigating at night around the resort area. It was close to closing but we were welcomed and taken care of quickly. Learned about Mofongo and as fun as it is to say it's better to eat as a side dish! She ordered the skirt steak and Mofongo and I got the Pernil (pork roast) and white rice and black beans. I was water guy but she got a passion fruit mojito. Probably the best one she's ever had and I don't care for mojitos much though I'm a big rum fan and I liked it too! The steak was done great, my pork was excellent and with a crispy skin piece on top. Their white rice was simple but we both loved it as it's got more flavor than Asian rice we are used to and the black beans were tasty! The Mofongo was so great to try and now I'll search that out all week. We might be back again in our stay because they have great Cubano Sammie's and so much good looking dishes for both casual and heavier dining. Big portions and we had leftovers for a big snack again In the room. Very kind service.

Small salad, Mofongo Duo with chicharrón and green sauce

This was my second time visiting Tropico Mofongo Restaurant, and once again, they delivered a flavorful, satisfying meal. I ordered the Mofongo Duo with chicharrón, a small salad, and barbecue pork and everything was well-seasoned and thoughtfully prepared. The barbecue pork was especially delicious, tender, juicy, and full of smoky-sweet flavor. The chicharrón added a nice crunch and paired perfectly with the soft mofongo. The small salad was fresh and helped balance the richness of the dish. Service was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. All in all, Tropico Mofongo continues to impress. A solid 4 out of 5 stars, and I'm already thinking about what to try next time

So if you get here at the right time things are quick and easy. If you come during the rush pack your patience but know that it is worth the wait. A huge selection of Puerto Rican delights await you. The arroz con gandules, the plátano, the pernil, the chicharrón, the everything was Magically delicious! Service was friendly but don't expect high fives they are working fast and pumping out those plates. Lots of seating and great Mojitos!

A must when visiting Orlando, Florida! GUARANTEE DELICIOUSNESS!!!! Every time I visit I have such a hard time ordering because everything is delicious. The last time I had a meal there I ordered the most tender flavorful Brisket, with Rice, Beans and Salad. My cousin ordered Shrimp Mofongo, that I couldn't resist but to ask her to share some with me. Overall they get an A+. Staff is friendly and very welcoming! I love this place!

Yellow rice red beans 2 chicken breasts!

5 stars for flavor and girl servers were wonderful. I had the yellow rice and red beans with the 2 big chicken breasts and a mug of homemade fruit punch all for $16.00. What a bargin for delicous food! Make sure you order the juice without ice!

Located in a strip mall with cafeteria style dining but don't let that fool you. Food is excellent. They have a large space and well spaced seating that is able to accommodate large parties. Maduros were absolutely excellent, well cooked, and sweeeeet. The arroz con gandules was ok. Both chicharron was on point! Well seasoned and not overly salty. Squeeze some lemon over it and it was excellent. Benita's could have been larger. Flan was creamy but did not taste home made. Service was quick and the place got very crowded: a sure sign that people were pleased with the business. Definitely will return.

I am still thinking about the food and drinks 2 hours after. Went in the early afternoon for lunch. We were seated right away and had a waitress serve us. Food was fresh, delicious, and authentic. The parcha mojito was absolutely phenomenal. Fresh passion fruit juice and mint and a lime!!! I am a huge fan. We came just us two but we noticed booths that sit groups. It wasn't a huge place but very beautiful inside and classy. We will definitely be coming back. Everything we ate was a 10/10. Great portions and food was just amazing.

I ordered the mofongo con camarones and a Don Q rum cocktail. The drink was smooth and poured properly -- always a good sign. The mofongo itself had great flavor and a generous portion of shrimp on top. It leaned slightly sauce-dependent, but once I added the extra garlic sauce (highly recommend if you're a garlic fan), it really came together. The shrimp were cooked well, not rubbery, and the presentation in the green pilón was a nice touch. Portion size was solid and filling without feeling like overkill. Atmosphere was casual and comfortable -- not fancy, but authentic-feeling and welcoming. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall I'd give it a strong 8/10. I would definitely come back, but next time I'd probably try the pernil or churrasco to explore more of the menu. If you're in the tourist corridor and want something with actual personality instead of another corporate restaurant, this is a solid choice.
