There seems to be a high turn over in staff and the owners of La Jolie not disclosed. There is horrible customer service and severe retaliation. I witnessed first hand abusive behavior towards a loyal customer. This is unacceptable . I heard and saw how the manager did not respect the customer. It's the worst management I have ever witnessed. Customers keep businesses running. Mistreatment and discrimination should not be tolerated. I heard the front desk tell a woman this is Princeton and we can charge more! I came here for the first time to get my nails done a few days ago. I'm not one to get my nails done regularly, maybe twice a year. However, since I was having my engagement photo shoot that week, I needed nice nails. I wanted an ombré white look. I was told in advance that in order to achieve the look I was going for, I needed to do dip powder. I was like "sure, do what you gotta do." During the process, I had a feeling that maybe the stylist had little experience with dip, but I was hopeful that they would still come out great. It was the snow day and they were trying to keep their morning appointments so I didn't want to advocate for myself since 1) I'm shy and 2) I didn't want to add more work to their already busy schedule that day. Upon completion, I thought they looked nice but I knew it's not what I was really looking for. As the day went on, I was realizing how unacceptable the nails actually came out. They were very very thick, very lumpy, and the shape just wasn't what I had asked for. I was almost positive cuticle treatment was included, but I guess not. I was freaking out because my shoot was in two days! I FaceTimed my mom to show her my nails and she was so shocked. She claimed how they looked like teeth! She suggested I go to another salon that she's familiar with in my hometown. I was able to make an apt the morning of my shoot. He had to shave it down so much and smooth it out. They look like normal nails and he gave me the shape I asked for. He just topped it off with normal gel one color because I didn't want to try ombré again :( I attached pictures of what I got here and the second to last photo is how they were fixed. The last photo is what I asked for the first time... The 2 stars are for the friendly staff and the cleanliness of the salon. I will still go again but maybe just ask for simple nails or maybe just try to advocate for myself some more. read more

First time at LaJolie salon and I was impressed by the staff upon arrival. It has a great vibe, so clean and great decor! Now on to my hair, this was awesome! Donna knew just how to make my very thin hair look full! And the color is fabulous! It perfectly covers the gray with the finest highlights that everyone who knows me has made a point to mention how great my hair is, even men! I recently went to La Jolie with a friend. We have both been going to them for years and enjoyed the services until this most recent event. The actual hair stylist was great, we asked for and received the same service as the last ten times, but this time they over charged my friend by $140 (3X the previous charge for the same service). We didn't have the time to argue because we were late to a family lunch and instead I helped write an email with her that night. The reached out the next day and corrected the over charge, maintaining my, my friends, and our families loyalties and our good feelings towards the establishment. Then, today, my friend received a call while I was with her, it was one of the senior staff yelling! This is two days later. I could actually hear the yells from my desk next to her over her phone, it was shocking and horrendous. The best part was hearing the woman yell "you are black listed" and "you are never welcomed back," well, I don't know who would want to go back after the first bit of that conversation. The one thing I do know, I, my family, and my friends and anyone who ask for a recommendation will never use La Jolie again unless a sincere apology is provided by their entire management. This is just unacceptable in a general civilized world, let alone, in the service industry. Bottom-line: Horrible customer service with chances of overcharging and dishonesty. read more

I have been here 3,4times, in the last few times was not bad.today I got the worst experience from Maggie. There is no towel when doing the shampoo and the hair color was wrong. I give her a picture and let her look the picture to my haircut. And all she did is not even the same when I talk to her I said that is too short and all she said was OK I'm not gonna do anything with it. She is a master but I think she is the worst designer. On a whim, made an appointment for partial highlights. Indicated to the colorist Ela that I wanted subtle, natural dimension, and that I typically have balayage done. Two hours later, I have orange streaks throughout my hair... too much highlighting, too severe color... nothing natural or subtle about it. She was terrible at the blowout, too. I had to take over. Oh, and it cost me 250 bucks. She offered to fix it if I decided I didn't like it after a day or so. Appreciate that, but not stepping in there again. read more

There are some good stylists at La Jolie, but Maggie (Malgorzata Krawcewicz) does not fall into this category. This week, I had the worst experience of my past 2 years of styling at La Jolie. I would suggest Maggie spend some time to improve her etiquette and approach. She aggressively slathered the color on my roots and dripped the color all over the cape, my face, and neck. After processing, Maggie did not even check on my hair after the assistant finished shampooing. Also, due to my grey hair I need to have it colored every 4 weeks and cannot afford a blowout in addition to the monthly single process color. The Express Finish offered by the assistant was horrific. I asked for her to use a round brush because my thick coarse hair does not dry quickly by simply blow drying without tools, but she said no and offered to schedule a $35 blowdry if I wanted that. I asked if I could dry my own hair since it was cold outside and I did not want to walk out with wet or frizzy hair, but the assistant said I could not do that either. She dried the middle of the hair shaft and did not dry the roots or the ends; this is a waste of time for someone with frizzy hair. The front desk employees were very nice and high quality upon my check-in and check-out. I would recommend Sherri, Leah, or Amanda if you are looking for a Level 1 stylist at this salon, as I will definitely only schedule with them in the future. read more

Update: I got an email from a stylist at La Jolie who seems very cool. He wasn't the one who gave me the terrible experience I had there last time, but he apologized for it anyway and wanted to make it right. What an awesome guy! I already have an appointment elsewhere to get my hair cut tomorrow so I won't be taking him up on his offer, but it was definitely appreciated. I went to get my white blonde hair touched up at the roots. It really was an awful experience for me, as my hair dresser, insisted her way to dye my hair was better. It turned to be bright yellow which I have working months to keep white blonde. Additionally, service took a really long time and my hairdresser was not attentive to me and looked like she cared at all....it was apparent when my shirt had bleach all over it. I didn't realize until I went home and saw it. Short staffed or not for the day, I am still paying for the service and was extremely dissatisfied at how I was treated and I'm usually a very flexible and calm individual. read more

I only get my hair cut here. I live in Philly but work in Princeton, and I always find time to schedule my haircut over my lunch hour, instead of doing it somewhere closer to home. The salon experience you get for the price is a great value. I've probably had 3 people cut my hair since I've been going here, and they've all been great. I highly recommend this salon for men looking for a good haircut that is several notches above your average barber shop hacking. **update** I just went there for a cut and figured I'd ask for a beard trimming while they were at it - they've done it before for me. If nothing else, La Jolie deserves five stars for their fantastic service and staff. Everyone, from beginning to end, wants to make sure your experience is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. I was offered tea, coffee, or water multiple times; given a long and relaxing head/neck massage during the wash; and had a genuine rapport with my stylist, Campbell. For full disclosure, I was offered a free cut by La Jolie's management staff. In particular, Campbell was really fantastic. He was friendly, enthusiastic, and clearly cared about his work. To be honest, I wasn't particularly enthused about my haircut after I left the salon, but that changed after I washed my hair and saw the layers fall into place. Due to the styling of the hair, (he had given me curls and lots of volume), it was difficult to tell how it turned out, but in the end, I'm ultimately happy with the cut. I have noticed that the stylists at La Jolie seem to spend more time styling than on cutting. I noticed this with my first experience and a little with this one (though since I was happy with the cut in the end, it seemed to matter less this time.) According to some of my friends, this observation is consistent with their experiences at La Jolie as well. I still find the Level 1 cost a bit pricey for a college student's budget, but La Jolie does offer many different discounts and deals that are well worth researching before you go. They also do free bang trims in between cuts. I would still recommend the Apprentice cut for those who are less discerning of their hair. In particular, the apprentice cut is well worth it for men who like a classier, and overall better, experience than Mike's barber shop. But, I would say the Level 1 cut is well worth the upgrade if you have a little cash to spare. read more

I got a Level 1 stylist. I grew my hair out for 2 years, planning to donate to locks of love. I asked the stylist to cut 10 inches off, and then style it. She did the requisite pony tailing (I'm a guy), and did the cut. She then proceeded to cut it quite short (much shorter than I wanted). I don't mind the cut, but I could've done the short crew cut myself. Anyone could've. She chopped off 14 inches, when I only wanted 11. That's going to cost me 6 months of hair growing to reach the length I should've come out with. I gave the other stars because she was really nice, a great shampooing, and she really CARED (after the shampoo, she said she saw an inconsistency, and proceeded to bust out the shears again - who does that??). I'll come back, but I will definitely be more forceful and vocal on how I want my hair. So...be vocal! read more

My review is for a level 1 men's hair cut. The girl who cut my hair had little to no idea what she was doing. And as I'm scanning the other reviews, it looks like I'm not the only one who was disappointed by the level 1 cut. Unfortunately I don't remember her name, and I know it's rough to give the whole salon a bad rating from one stylist, but that was just my experience. My advice: fork out the extra $20 or whatever to get someone more experienced, or go somewhere else. read more

Yulia, a junior designer, colored my hair and did a great job! I walked in hoping they could do something to get rid of the reddish tint my regular salon in NH put into it that I did not love. Yulia was very attentive and I would return to her! Svita then styled my hair and she did a great job as well - spent a lot of time! I really should have taken before and after pictures! For a few haircuts after I moved to the area, I'd been driving to my hometown to get my haircut. It's hard to find a good stylist, and you have to stick to what you know. But thanks to a recommendation from my roommate, I found myself at La Jolie. Nicole does my hair there, and she does a fantastic job. She gives me great tips on styling my own hair as well as keeping it healthy. I always leave extremely happy and I know that not only will my hair look great that day, but that I'll be able to keep it up and it will grow out well, too. The staff is always friendly, it's fairly easy to get an appointment, and you're made to feel comfortable as soon as you step in the door. I saw a few reviews on here that said they are pricey, but compared to a lot of the other shops in Princeton, La Jolie is a bargain! read more

So I called and asked if they were skilled in African American hair and my hair is already relaxed so it was hard. I got there and the lady who did my hair didn't even style it properly I walked out looking like Lesley Jones from SNL. So I'm not going back paid 70 and I still tipped 20 to be nice but not going pack. Only thing that was good was my shampoo wash and the head massage she gave me. Update: Although again I can't speak for women's cuts, there are certainly some stylists that are great with longer men's cuts. I've been maintaining a relatively difficult longer style with Allie for a while now, and her attention to detail (which I'm sure is representative of the whole salon) is exceptional. Previous: (3 stars) This low rating only reflects the fact that for men with shorter hair, it's probably just easier to go to a barber or men's salon. The hairdressers will only use scissors, which limits you to mid length or longer cuts. That being said, I've had good haircuts here; they're super professional, friendly, and knowledgable (plus they do complimentary cleanups between cuts). I can't speak for women's cuts, but for the high flat price($40+) for a men's cut, I can't say that I'll go here regularly for short, precise dos. read more

I bring my daughter, who is 7, to La Jolie to have some unmanageable tangles removed every couple months as well as a haircut. I also have been serviced for cut and color by various level hair stylist over the past year. Every time we leave satisfied. The shampoo is phenomenal- much attention given to scalp massage- even for my young daughter. They are gentle with her sensitive hair and she always leaves feeling like a princess for a very fair cost. My color receives compliments and my cut is always flattering. Once I may have have asked for a modification a day later. This was done by a different stylist a day later for no charge. Very accommodating and professional staff. read more

After many good recommendations, I decided to try La Jolie for a haircut. I went in not quite knowing what I wanted done, but knew I needed a bit of a change. Melannie offered some great suggestions during the consultation and I immediately knew I was in good hands! Melannie was an absolute delight to chat with while she worked her magic, and the atmosphere in the salon was very relaxing. Not only did my hair look amazing when I left the salon, but it even looked good the next day when i did it myself! I have been going here since I was sixteen. While it is pricey, you never end up with a botch job, especially for color. The haircuts are good, but honestly I think you can go elsewhere and the get same quality for slightly less money. The color is a different story. I get partial highlights from Ela, she's great, but almost any other stylist is as good. Their coloring/highlighting technique is amazing. I get mine done regularly and my hair shows no sign of damage or dryness. I once decided to try a different salon for color, and it just didn't compare, even though it was also an Aveda salon. After getting my hair done there twice, it felt like it was going to break off, so back to La Jolie I went. Also, just how nice and professional the entire staff is, it's very refreshing. Rarely have I had to wait longer than 5 minutes, and since they offer you beverages (and sometimes snacks!) you don't even notice. Overall I feel this one the best salons in NJ. For color, I'd go nowhere else. Haircuts are great too but you can probably find a cheaper place elsewhere. read more

Used to be great, but not any more. I was their customer for over 7 years, they used to have a very professional staff, but this changed. In my last experience, I came to color my roots, but the stylist was not professional enough, and my roots stayed in the same color! When I returned to weeks after that (I was travelling) , to say I am not happy and asked them to redo it, they did not know what to do. I have been coming to this salon on and off for 12 years now. La Jolie has always held a team of serious professionals when it comes to hair. I got my hair done here for junior prom and still remember to this day how much I loved it! Svetlana does amazing cuts. I got my hair colored by Kristen last week. The results are exactly what I was looking for, she's a great mixer! It was a costly trip but hey, you get what you pay for. Meh. This page claims La Jolie as capable of handling East Asian hair... I don't think they excelled at it. At the prices they're charging, they really need to be terrific, but they weren't. I had a male hairstylist whose name I've forgotten... very nice person who was friendly and helpful with suggesting products that La Jolie sells (of course!). UPDATE: I received a message from the President of the salon, as follows: "Dear Meh, I am truly sorry about your experience at La Jolie Salon & Spa. Each stylist here at La Jolie is required to pass an extensive training program. Our strong education program consists of all hair types, styles, textures. We have a very diverse clientele that comes to us from all different walks of life. The stylist you visited has a large East Asian following and has always been able to exceed his client's expectations. Our dedication to our guests is to assure that each one leaves happy. I do hope you give us another try, and perhaps try one of our other stylists. We will make your next visit a great one. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss your visit further." My thoughts? a) I'm a little confused about how this person could have guessed from my review who my stylist was, since the only fact I disclosed was that the stylist is male. I think there's more than one male there? b) "The stylist you visited has a large East Asian following and has always been able to exceed his client's expectations." Um, well, no since I just said in my review that I'm East Asian and that I wasn't satisfied=did not exceed my expectations. So, this person's claim is just not true, or is s/he trying to tell me what I really think about my haircut? If so, that would be an odd way to respond to a mild complaint. c) I'm no longer living in Princeton and in either case would not go back for a haircut at this salon (free or not), but I find it interesting that other, earlier dissatisfied customers on Yelp were offered a free haircut and I was not. (I genuinely believe that the earlier posters were not posting bad reviews just to get a free haircut BTW. Please don't do that if you read this!) d) anyway, sticking to my original review, my stylist was very pleasant and friendly and helpful. I just didn't think the price of the haircut was commensurate to the quality of the cut itself. I've had too many haircuts in too many cities to know this (after all, the unpleasant truth about a haircut one pays a lot for is that it grows out too quickly!). DO NOT GO HERE for color. I repeat DO NOT GO HERE for color. Particularly if you have or want blond hair or blond highlights. HORRIFIC!!! They are not trained in color perhaps they are in cutting simple women's cuts but color experts they are NOT (unless you need a simple easy brown root touch up - but you can do that with materials from your local Sally's). This salon makes you sign a waiver if you go there for any color. RED FLAG on the play right there. Have you ever, ever, EVER been to a salon that makes you sign a waiver so they are not responsible??? Never right? Maybe bc it is the JOB of the professional to ensure "quality of work for the pay for the quality of work done" (and they do make you pay - a single process is over $300+ - it's absolute insanity - you'd think they would know wtf they were doing for their prices) AND they have you sign a WAIVER that they're not responsible for anything. Plzzzzzz . Have you ever, ever, EVER been to ANY salon in the US that makes you sign a waiver? I guess they need to make their clients sign waivers bc they have had so many issues with horrific hair colors and cuts in the past. Net/Net - after spending over $1200 in 4mths for color and highlights. My hair is completely ruined. Breaking everywhere and every place. All my friends tell me I should shave it all off bc there is nothing left but a few strands. And every other hair stylists I've been to (6 in past 2 months) all say the same thing "HOLY SHIT! I've gotten my hair cut at this salon for a few years but recently I've stopped going back. I used to get my hair cut by Angie before she moved back to Memphis and she was amazing! Miss her. After she left, I bounced around between apprentices and regular Level 1's but it's not the same. Getting a hair cut should be wonderful and uplifting but it hasn't been the case here during my last few. One of the stylists during a visit last year cut herself while cutting my hair. I asked her if she's okay and she told me it happens all the time because she works with scissors. The whole experience was strange and she kept trying to convince me to come get my hair colored at the salon. I felt really insulted by her comments because even though I dye my hair at home, I don't feel that I should have been treated that way. I hinted that I don't have the money to do that but she kept mentioning that she would do such a great job with it. Weird way to try to build up clientele if you ask me. Even though it's been quite a while since that cut I still have a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. The cut I got from her was great but her attitude just killed it for me. A Level 1 hair cut is approx $50 and for someone in college it's an indulgence not a regular thing. I am looking for a new salon where I won't be talked down to. read more

I had an appointment today, the place looked nice and everyone was pleasant. I picked the highest level stylist (level III) , so i can get styling ideas and a stylish look, instead I was the one giving the suggestions and ended with short unmanageable bangs, not much of a style and an expensive tab. I would maybe go again, and try level I or II stylists they might be more eager to give you the look you wanted. Disappointed read more
