I've utilized this pharmacy 3 times now. This last time was a big order since I needed many fertility meds. Marina was so helpful right from the start with explaining the process, associated costs and timeline. I was very overwhelmed with my order and she took the time to research if each med was covered by my primary and secondary insurance and delivered each update to me in a friendly and caring manner. She tried multiple times to get my meds approved for coverage from all angles and worked together with her team to provide exceptional individual service. It's wonderful they carry meds that most regular pharmacies don't BUT be prepared for the most frustrating experience of waiting. I called at 9:30 and asked if my Rx was ready for pick up. She said no but would have it filled before I arrived in an hour. I arrived and was met by a lady whose personality was that of a mop and was told she needed my address and phone number; I told her it's on file, I've filled several Rx's this past year. She then said they need to still fill it "less than 10 minutes." It's frustrating since I called to have it ready since I was driving to pick the up on my lunch break and didn't really have the time to wait. I chose La Jolla Discount Pharmacy as it was recommended by my fertility specialist. They carry specialty drugs in house and are one of the few local pharmacies that do. LJ Pharmacy made it very easy for me to pick up my drugs. I was able to call ahead so they could gather them and then upon arrival to pick them up there was minimal wait time. The first time I went in to get my drugs the pharmacist pulled me aside and spent some time going over them, what to expect, how long they would stay in my system and then answered some questions I had. They are very willing to help. Unfortunately, one of the vials I had picked up and needed for an injection had a leak. La Jolla Discount Pharmacy was gracious enough to call the manufacturer to inquire and ended up getting me a refund. They went above and beyond for me. This pharmacy is a nightmare to get to and pick up prescriptions from. It takes forever to find parking and you have to pay for parking on top of it. I've been to this pharmacy at least 4 times in the past year and every time I go in I'm blown away by how rude the staff is. David the pharmacist is excellent, especially when it comes to customer service. I went in to pick up a prescription 30 minutes after they closed, not realizing they have adjusted hours due to covid. There was a note on the door with a phone #, to please call that number if you came to pick up a prescription after hours. I called the number, and David came right over within 10 minutes of my call. Next thing, my insurance wouldn't cover the prescription, so David provided a discount for me which took off about half the cost. I paid $53.00 instead of over $100. Thank you so much for accommodating me. I would rather support a small pharmacy vs a big corporate chain pharmacy. I will be back! read more

I would avoid this pharmacy at all costs. I'm surprised they are still open. First their customer service is very poor, the wait is long and they do not follow proper pharmacy practices. They have a long history of getting in trouble for not properly storing medicines at the correct temperature, sold generic drugs even though customer requested and paid for brand-name drugs, they don't properly mix drugs as directed by manufacturer, they have been caught watering down drugs, they do not follow proper sterile procedures when mixing drugs. Poor and incompetent customer service. I called in my prescription (i am a physician). First of all, it was a student intern who took my prescription, and I needed to talk her through how to take a prescription in the first place and what to ask for. That was ridiculous and incompetent. So she told me 10-15 minutes. I gave them an hour. I walked there from my clinic (10 min walk) and they said they still needed all my information, which I gave to them while there and they said it'd be another 20 minutes. I told them that I am a physician and left my clinic to walk over there myself to pick up the script, but there was a line of patients waiting to be seen and they should have asked for that information on the phone in the first place or at least called me for the additional information an hour ago rather than having me walk all the way over there while i have other patients in my clinic waiting to be seen. They just stared at my blankly (two of the attendants). No apology, no reassurance this would not happen again. Just a blank stare. I told her i have to run back to clinic, so please call me when the script was ready. She said she would. No call. I had to call them myself an hour later to find out my script was ready. I have never in my life seen this level of incompetence at any pharmacy. For a simple antibiotic. The place was also a mess with boxes on the counters. The cashiers were doing absolutely nothing to help anyone. I will not be returning here, and I'll be sure not to send any of my patients there. read more

Poor customer service. Advice: call before you arrive to ensure your prescription is ready otherwise chances are you will be waiting and be charged parking fees. On several occasions I have had my prescription called in/faxed early morning (7a) and arrive in the late afternoon to find out that they had not began getting it ready. There are a few front desk clerks that need additional customer service skills. When I arrived I was told they did not receive my order. When I told her what time it was faxed and by whom, she rolled her eyes at another employee. read more

Avoid this pharmacy unless you have nothing better to do than to wait around for HOURS to get your prescription. Know that they NEVER have your prescription ready when you get there and you'd be lucky if their systems are working to check on your insurance. Whoever runs this place has a very big challenge with the whole process. Not one person that I saw waiting in line was happy with their circumstance. At first I chalked it off to people just having a bad day and over-reacting. Only after having to wait myself for 20 minutes to then be told I'll need to wait another hour or two because they were having problems processing the insurance, did I understand why the people before me looked like they wanted to punch the wall. How this place still stays in business is beyond me. I just requested for my doctor to call my prescription into another pharmacy. This is the worst pharmacy I have ever been to. My 65 year old mom was having back injections and came here to get anxiety medicine prior to her procedure. The women at the counter were incompetent and rude. Two women discussed another patient in front of my mom for 3 mins before helping her. Very unprofessional. My mom's dr called in the prescription yesterday and the 2 pills were still not ready today. We waited for 30 mins for this pill to be ready. My mom has to take one pill 1 hour prior to the procedure and we received the medication with only 3 mins to spare. Still sucks! I subjected my husband to the madness this time. My Dr. called my prescription in the day before letting them know it would be picked up the following day. My husband arrives and #1-they asked him several times if i already picked it up yesteryday, #2-they never even had it made, #3-waited over an hour again. He was furious because once again we are taking time out of work thinking we are saving time by having these things called in a day before! While conveniently located within the Ximed building, the loooong wait, and the poor customer service makes it a really frustrating process. Like many other, I go here because of fertility medications- which they really conveniently carry. My doctor will call in a large set of medications at one time for an upcoming round, I will then process get a minimum 2-5 phone calls and emails from discount pharmacy hounding me about when I will come in to pick them up. I will always tell them a date and time, but then everytime I go to pick them up they are never ready, and minimum 30 minute wait. The other issue is the staff. One of the front counter girls is very competent, efficient, and mostly nice, while the two others I have most recently encountered made it very clear they were having bad days and helping me was the last thing they wanted to be doing. When you are paying thousands of dollars cash, I do expect to at least be helped by a courteous employee. We have used a pharmacy in Rancho Santa Fe and an online speciality pharmacy which were great experiences....just not as conveniently located. read more

Don't go here. After I spent nearly $4,000 on drugs - they can't even pay for your parking validation. You always have to wait a super long time to get your prescription filled even if it was called in several hours prior to your arrival. I always ask if they run my insurance and they have to check and they say yes but that my insurance didn't cover it -TOTAL LIARS. I call my insurance they verify that they did not run my insurance and yes it is covered. The "Girls" that work here are super rude and not the brightest. The man that works there is super nice. I have been to this pharmacy three times and have had a bad experience all the three times. First of all, they got my first and last name interchanged so they couldn't verify my benefits and finally after an hour of waiting they got it right and I could get the medications. The second time I went, they still had my name wrong in the computer system, so they couldn't find me and they had to verify my benefits and call my insurance again, that was another hour wait. This time I double checked to make sure that they had my first and last name right. The third time I went there, they couldn't find the Rx I ordered, so I could not get a refill, after looking into it, they found that I had 2 accounts, one with my first and last name inputted correctly that had no information on me and a second account, where my names were interchanged but had all my information and with a refill Rx. I had to give all my information again and waited for another hour before they got my medications. In addition they never offered me counseling on my medications, the labels have no instructions as to how to take the medicine. Wouldn't want to go there again. read more

The worst pharmacy one can think of and the staff is so dumb. You ask them one thing, they say something, when you go to the pharmacy, they change completely. Not one..the complete staff is dumb. I asked a simple question to one of the staff members for a prenatal I was buying from them, :what is the brand name of this Prenatal and she says, I dont know. I am here to mention about Mitra and her manager. This is my second time to order 0ver $3000 meds from this pharmacy, even though I have to get from another pharmacy this time due to the delivery time, I can feel how much efforts Mitra did put on her job, to make my meds delivered from san diego to los angles the next morning, Mitra tried her best to arrange the driver till 7:30 pm, and she even called me through her own cell phone after work, only to apologize that the drivers were not able to make it. I feel so bad that I did not have the business with her this time, but she still send me her best wishes, said she would prey for my best. I had an excellent experience in dealing with this pharmacy. I came here because the specialist I am seeing is in this building. My doctor called the medication in and when I got a call from the pharmacy I got a price quote. I had researched pricing for the medication on different mail order websites prior to ordering and am so happy to say that La Jolla Discount Pharmacy's pricing was much lower than those websites. After reading the reviews on here I was a little bit nervous to see what would happen once I actually got there. No one was in line when I showed up and most of my medications were ready to go. There were a couple medications that were refrigerated and needed to be filled on site so Michelle told me to hang on for about 10 minutes while they took care of that. I took a seat in the very lovely lobby area and came back after 10 minutes. Michelle went over everything I was getting and David popped over to just see if I had questions and advise me on storing the refrigerated medication. They validated my parking pass so I didn't have to pay anything for that. The original price quote over the phone was accurate, actually even a little bit less because Michelle took the initative and asked for my insurance card, even though I was under the impression none of the medications would be covered. Most likely wouldn't use the pharmacy again simply because I am not generally in this area, but if your local pharmacy doesn't carry something and you need to come here don't be concerned about it. read more

Location is only slightly inconvenient as it is located right in the middle of the scripps la jolla hospital campus, but it is SO worth it! I was undergoing some expensive treatment and they literally saved me $900 on one of the medications alone!! In fact, it was cheaper to pay out-of-pocket there than it was to pay the insurance price elsewhere! No joke! Don't assume that the insurance price is always cheaper. I was a little nervous about sending my prescription to La Jolla Discount Pharmacy after reading the reviews on Yelp. I was purchasing a medication that was not covered by my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket. When calling around, the medication at La Jolla Discount Pharmacy was almost half the price of what the pharmacy at UCSD quoted me. So, I sent my prescription to La Jolla Discount. I did not realize that this pharmacy is in the Scripps facility in La Jolla. I parked in one of the parking lots for the hospital and hoped it was okay. The people working there were really nice and helpful. However, it was a little strange to see a little mini mart in the pharmacy. My prescription did take a little longer than I anticipated, but the savings was worth it. They validate too, so my parking was free! Overall a good experience. read more

Absolutely Awful! I have a controlled substance prescription, as I have ADHD. I called to check on if they carried the generic I needed, since Walgreens ran out. So, rather than drive all the way out there from Mira Mesa, I called to check on if they had it in stock or could order it. The man asked "What kind is it?" I asked what he meant and he clarified regular or extended release.. I replied Instant. He then raised his voice at me and asked again "What KIND IS IT?". I again stated instant release and the dosage. He then asked me who my DOCTOR was. This is a strange question to ask, as NO OTHER PHARMACY I have EVER been to has asked me that. I said I'm a new patient and have never been there before and before I could tell him who it was (my MD is actually a block away from them) he rudely interrupted me and stated "No, we don't sell that kind of medication here and answer those kinds of questions" and HUNG UP ON ME. Wow. The first and last time i'll call them. And the ONLY pharmacy I've every called that asked who my doctor was and didn't carry my meds. He could have at least checked to order it. Though they are generally nice to customers, I believe some of the staff need diversity training. I was carrying my 4-year old son who has autism. The younger pharmacy tech who was helping me waved her hand in front of his face and said "helloooo" (or something like that). It would have seemed inappropriate to me even if I'd been holding my child who does not have autism, but the fact that he DOES made it even more inappropriate. read more
