We've tried the Jeffersonville restaurant, and with a coupon it was time to try this location. In Jeff, I commented on lousy salsa. Here in NA, the salsa was thick, chunky and darn tasty. The chips were fresh, and not too thick. We were off to a good start. My wife ordered shrimp tacos. Three well packed tacos with a side of rice & guac. The shrimp were decent sized, perfectly grilled, and completely flavorless. Now, the fajitas. Just like in Jeff, Puerto Vallarta dices the chicken & beef rather than serving strips. A generous portion, perhaps lacking in onions & peppers, served sizzling hot. Again, only refried beans were offered. No black or boracho beans were available. And again, not a lot of seasoning for any special flavor. Puerto Vallarta offers lots of options on the menu. But, based on my two visits, the recipes need some serious tweaking to bring flavors forward. But if you like bland Mexican food, you'll love it here. read more

Visited Puerto Vallarta for the first time in many, many years to find they've refreshed their restaurant. Gone are the garish colors, replaced with more subtle earth tones and traditional Mexican design work. It's also MUCH larger than it used to be. Stopped in on a Friday evening, was seated immediately despite the restaurant being packed and were immediately presented with a HUGE basket of warm, crispy tortilla chips and salsa. A definite improvement over their previous chips and salsa which were only fair to middling. Ordered food, a grilled steak quesadilla for my wife and a grilled chicken quesadilla for me and Mexican rice along with the requisite con queso. I also got a frozen peach margarita, which, while not terribly peachy, was still ice cold, fruity and delicious! The food arrived about 2 minutes after we ordered and everything was genuinely excellent. We will definitely be back (and I'm going to try a frozen blackberry margarita!). Overall, zero complaints. Love going to Puerto Vallarta for lunch. The staff is fast, attentive and food is good. Decided to go on a Tuesday for Margarita Day. After getting seated, had to wave down the staff to get water after sitting for 20 minutes. Told the staff we saw on Facebook that they had a special on tacos and margaritas. Unfortunately, the post did not have a location just Southern Indiana. The staff said it was not there location and they could not honor it. Decided we would go ahead and order anyway. Again had to wave them down after getting water to order. Ordered a pitcher of margaritas, a fajita quesadilla, a number 7 and number 11 combination. After we got the food, never saw the waitress again until I waived her down for the check. Food was ok but service was not. May have to look for another Mexican restaurant for dinners. read more

Absolutely loved this restaurant! Very fast service, friendly waiter, and nice spaced-out restaurant. I ordered the IS Special (arroz con pollo) and thought it was very good. My boyfriend had enchiladas and opted for grilled chicken instead of shredded. We were both pleased with their grilled chicken and would definitely order the same dishes again. I wasn't a huge fan of their cheese dip (queso) but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and the service we received. There's nothing like a PV marg! We went on a Saturday around 6:00pm. Most of the parking on one side of the parking lot was full (it is most of the time) so we had to park a little further down, which was completely fine. Very cordial staff and a welcoming dining experience . Service was lightening quick and the food was well prepared with portions that satisfies the appetite without requiring a take home container that you very well know will never be reheated. I wouldn't define P V as "upscale" but it's absolutely not low-end. It's a terrific family venue. Low on the noise scale allowing conversation with a fellow diner without shouting across the table. I definitely Intend to explore other menu options, which BTW are rather numerous. So... it appears I'll have to make multiple return trips. Gladly!! I love this spot. We've been here a few times just so I can eat their salsa. It's not the runny kind. It's chunky with pieces of cilantro and onion in it. Last time I came I had the chipotle burrito. It's a huge burrito with chicken, onions and a creamy chipotle sauce on it. Today I had the guacamole burrito. Not as good - but still pretty okay. The beans are super runny but the queso makes up for it. Their kids menu is big and cheap! Got my daughter the ham and cheese quesadilla with fries and she demolished it! I'll be back :) read more

We come here a lot, we used to love their margaritas, back pre 2022 they've gone through some changes but it seems to have leveled out a bit. The margaritas are ok not great but omg I tried the Fajitas Ranchero with pineapple, peppers, chicken, steak & chorizo.... Absolutely amazing! I requested for the cold salad to be in a different box from the warm dinner for an to go order and I ended up with beans and rice and salad in the same container. There's no common sense. The place is always busy so I was interested to check them out. First off their sweet tea had a funny taste and was not very good. The chips seemed overly greasy and the cheese dip was too runny. We used to love this place. I fell in love with El Burrito De La Roqueta. I have gotten this dish many times. We were there in April '23 and it tasted off. OK, my bad luck maybe, off night, sure that's it. August '23 I wanted it for my birthday dinner. Bad luck for me. It tasted off and sour for some reason. I tasted everything individual to narrow it down. The pork tasted freezer burned. After only a few bites thinking the meat could possibly be soured I couldn't continue eating it. Before I said anything to my wife, she asked me to taste the ground beef in her Chimichanga as she thought it was bad. It just tasted flavorless to me. The server asked if I wanted a box, I told him "no, the meat is freezer burned". He walked away without a word. He brought the bill and graciously knocked a couple bucks off my dish. Well, all good things must come to an end. Something has caused this place to go down hill on a slippery slope. The food just keeps getting worse. Arrivederci Puerta Vallarta. I'm no stranger to the Americanized Mexican food scene. When it was suggested to try out Puerto Vallarta, I was all in! The entire experience was expectantly pretty average. This definitely wasn't my best experience with Mexican food, but it also certainly wasn't my worst. I was looking for a quick, cheap meal, so I got the chicken quesadilla. It was pretty tasty, but I probably could have whipped up the same thing in my own kitchen without too much effort. It wasn't necessarily worth it to be frank. The queso was very good though. It was delightfully creamy and rich. I drowned that quesadilla in queso like it was going out of style and you bet I had no shame. I was going to get a margarita, per usual, but for some reason a little alcoholic voice called out to me telling me to get the mango daiquiri. That voice was no friend of mine. The mango daiquiri wasn't great. It tasted really strange and had huge chunks of ice throughout. Another trip through the blender would have done it some good. I regret not getting a margarita, word on the street is they are very delicious. Overall, I guess the experience was okay. My food was meh, and my drink was blah. I would be very surprised if I ever came back (mainly because I live so far away), but if you're in the area, it was cheap and quick. If that's what your stomach is hollering for, Puerto Vallarta will answer. read more

My fiancé were running some errands across the river in New Albany and needed a bite to eat. We opted for Puerto Vallarta and I'm glad we did! I ordered the Burrito Guacamole and he ordered the Burrito Alcarbon! We both really enjoyed our meals! I would recommend Puerto Vallarta over the Louisville staple of El Nopal. I felt the ingredients used here were much fresher and the food had more flavor! The salsa served before we received our food was wonderful! Used to eat at the Muncie location 20+ years ago when I was at Ball State and was thrilled when I moved back to the area and found this location. What you need to know about Mexican food is that mexican't live without it - and PV is our go-to favorite restaurant for Mexican food. Service is super fast and always friendly. The food is consistently great. Their salsa is a nice departure from your typical Mexican restaurant salsa - chucks of tomato and cilantro, also seasoned with black pepper? I've found a Mexican restaurant to replace La Rosita! The service is impeccable. My glass was never empty and the food arrived extremely quickly. It has been quite some time since i've seen such attentive servers. Speaking of food, it was very tasty and the portions were generous. The chicken could use a bit of spice, but the sauces made up for it on my meal (the chimichangas), but the enchiladas lacked a little something. The chips and salsa were fine. The chips were not as fresh as some other restaurants, but the salsa was delicious. The margaritas were excellent and the drinks were very reasonably priced. This is one of my go to places in New Albany. It's pretty much a classic Mexican Restaurant in many ways and probably Americanized for most of our tastes, but they do a really good job. The restaurant itself is massive. They have incorporated shops next to where they are located and keep expanding the physical facility. When they are busy on weekend nights, the amount of people in the restaurant is incredible. What makes them very unique is that they can usually accommodate the large number of people. They have a large enough staff to handle the volume. Their fajitas are really good. They also have a dish with rice and either chicken or shrimp covered by an excellent queso. The chips are warm and delicious. The salsa is good but not special. They do have a mild salsa but you have to ask for it and it's mostly just tomato. I actually like it better but they don't, in my opinion, have salsas up to the quality of the chips----and unlike many places they only deliver one to the table. One of my favorite dishes there are the carnitas, chunks of pork nicely seasoned and deep fried. They bring soft tortillas with these and this, to me, is one of their best dishes. Frozen margaritas are available and quite good. Usually the service and the value of this restaurant are excellent. This is a place that I really wanted to give a fifth star and the fourth star is when they are at their best----which is most of the time. When they get overly busy the service is fast and the food comes surprisingly fast, but the quality and suffer. Chicken and pork become overcooked and a delicious carnita dinner or chicken with queso or a fajita becomes sub par. To me, their food is usually really good and their service is on point and this remains one of my favorite places. read more

Reason for the lower rating, food okay, but parking is terrible. I spent 15 minutes just trying to find a place to park. Since the food is okay and not awesome, I wasn't willing to walk all the way from the Meijer parking lot. I feel sorry for the other businesses in this strip. My friends and I have gone to this restaurant for years to meet for dinner or lunch because the food is pretty good and it's close for all of us. But, we have finally had enough! If two people order the same item and one says they don't want the sour cream, but the other one says they do seems simple enough. One friend got the toppings on their food minus the sour cream and one came out with nothing on it. My friend requested the sour cream, wasn't concerned about the lettuce, they brought her a bowl of sour cream then charged her $1.25 for it. We questioned the waiter and he started to fight it. Admitted it came with the meal, but because she requested it, they charge extra. He would not do anything and neither would the manager. We are done, this is not the first time they have charged us extra. read more

I forgot to take a picture when I ate there today. However this is one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants. I love the food, they give you a lot of food, and it comes out very quickly. They also give you real big cups so a refill is rarely needed. Their salsa has a lot of flavor and the "hot" isn't too hot for me like a lot of other places. Today I had the taco salad fajita with chicken. I ask for ranch on the side and put salsa on it for the dressings. It is so good and very filling. I can never finish it. For very FAST and good enough Mexican cuisine, Puerto Vallarta is a solid pick in the area. It is very clear that the waiters main focus is to turn tables, not necessarily to be friendly or go above and beyond for their customers but the food is hot and flavorful. Puerto Vallarta's review are pretty good and it was highly recommended. So I visited during lunch. The size of the restaurant is large and has plenty of seating. The decor is with vibrant colors as you'd expect for a Mexican restaurant. It was great. I got seated promptly, the chips and salsa came fast, my order was taken quickly, and last but not least the staff was very friendly. The chips and salsa were very good. The chips appeared to be made in house and the salsa had a lot of chunky, flavorful ingredients. Again, I expect this from Mexican restaurants. So, excellent! I ordered the beef and chicken enchiladas. Overall I thought the food was a bit salty. And..a lot of salt doesn't agree with me...at all. The noticeable salt content might be OK with someone else, but it was a turn off for me. I've been to many other Mexican restaurants and I normally don't taste this much salt, so maybe it was a one-off situation. Otherwise, I think this place is nice and worth visiting for someone wanting Mexican food, marguerites, etc. read more
