El Tarasco is a Mexican establishment in the south end of Lousiville Kentucky off of new cut road. Me and the whole family stopped in here for lunch the other day. The inside is very colorful and vibrantly decorated. A bit on the smaller side but it has a nice vibe. We were able to sit down immediately and received pretty good service. Food came out hot and fast so no complaints there. You do get complimentary chips and salsa which is always a much appreciated expectation I have when eating Mexican. There chips and salsa has a real nice flavor to them too. Very good. For our orders i personally got the Burritos Gigante. It was as the name suggests a giant burrito smothered in queso. The queso was very thin and didn't have much flavor. Wish it was a bit thicker and prominent. But it was more like a brown gravy type texture. The burrito was solid. Had a lot of beef in it and not much else. The beef actually overwhelmed the very thin queso and made it a bit overpowering. My wife got the Burrito Deluxe and said it was Really good and had solid flavor and filled her appetite. My two middle daughters got the kids pizza and said they was just ok. But you don't really expect much from a kids pizza at a Mexican establishment. My oldest got the steak street tacos and said they was just average. She ate about 2/3rds of them before throwing in the towel. Said they were slightly bland but overall she enjoyed them. Overall a nice little establishment with a nice sized menu, good vibes and good service based off our visit. I would be willing to return. I'd probably try the enchiladas supremas or quesadilla next time if so. read more

It's a really good Mexican establishment that my father and I went to over the weekend while we were in the area. We really enjoyed it got the free chips and salsa can't go wrong with that got the beefy burrito with the cheese on top which is solid as can be. Don't let the sign out front full you. Even though this is a chain, this is one of the best mexican restaurants in South Louisville. Their queso fundido with Chorizo was PHENOMINAL. The wait staff was beyond courteous and even went out of their way to engage in a conversation. I would highly recommend. read more

I had never been here before Sunday which is weird since it's practically in my backyard. The place is tiny but that's OK since it's definitely better than the larger places like El Nopal. Typical Mexican restaurant, like many others. This one is very small and located across the street from an El Nopal so it's not very busy. But great daily and lunch specials on food and drinks! Today was 2 for 1 margaritas. Chips and salsa are great! Lunch menu is unbeatable for an inexpensive meal. They also have a lunch reward card, ask for one! They are usually in the Val PAC coupons mailed to your home. The service is SUPER fast! Waiter was not super friendly, but order was correct and fast! Was craving Mexican food so I stopped in, I left still craving Mexican food :( I ordered the 5 enchiladas, the food came out quick but I felt like the enchiladas were super tiny and I was skimped out on the meat. The mole like sauce they poured on top was runny and watery. The salsa was really runny as well, you couldn't even scoop salsa it was so watery. Might've as well have dipped the chips into water! On top of that, the $2 margaritas had hardly any alcohol. I mean, at least I didn't taste any. read more

I only visited this place once before like 5 years ago and it was something to remember cause i learned what a hot plate was burning the memory of that place into my head but what i remembered was that one of the things i had from there was amazing but it was like a faded memory so when me and buddies decided to go out to eat i pitched going here and we all ordered the same thing Gigante Burrito with the power punching cheese drenched over it and it was just absolutely amazing it was literally Gigante weird eating a burrito with a knife and fork but it was worth it in the end cause i left wanting more. read more

Fantastic Mexican food. Went right after lunch rush time and the place still had a few people! As soon as we came in they had chips and salsa for us. We we're serve super quickly, within 8 minutes of ordering! The food was delicious. I ordered the Carnitas and they where very moist and tender. I have been here several times and I have always received the best service. In fact, I rate this restaurant # 1 when it comes to service. While I may have had service elsewhere that was a better (over-the-top, sugary-good service), I rank this one so high because the service is consistently, sincerely, good. They have a large menu of affordable combinations, entrees, etc. I spend, on average, $10-$15, including tip. UPDATE: As a recent-turned-vegetarian, I am pleased to see a good handful of meatless items on the menu. I've loved this place for so long and I was afraid that would change with the new diet.... but it has not. While a several items will cheese and bean you to death, they still have a few options beyond that. I love the Vegetarian Fajita. The restaurant has mostly booth seating, which I love. This restaurant, which is in an old Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, is just the right size. It is well lit and decorated with flag streamers, neon, and other Mexican decor. Though the place appears to have been around the block a few times, it is clean (again, it's a "hole-in-the-wall"). The exterior was completely repainted in the summer of 2008. I can't rate the restrooms because, I have somehow managed to never use them. UPDATE: The interior has been updated as well (2011). The dining area has been repainted and expanded (the side of the kitchen must've been reduced a little). It looks good and it's nice to see the owner's investing in their restaurant. This place will not make you say "Wow!!," but I think anyone (who likes Mexican food) will enjoy his/her visit... and want to return). We were headed to Iroquois, for a concert. We had just learned our first choice, for food, was closed for the evening. We decided to go for Mexican. The staff was very friendly. The beers were cold. The food was good. And, it was inexpensive. They have a mild and spicy salsa. The spicy salsa was very good, and there are hot sauces on the tables, so you can make it even hotter, if you like. They are not stingy, with the chips and salsa. I had the chicken fajita salad and I really liked it. It wasn't huge, so I was able to almost finish it. One of my friends had the taco salad and she liked it a lot. I am not sure what everyone else had, but they were all pleased. My husband had the tamales. I am a little picky, about tamales. I tasted his and the tamale was good; not dry. But, I didn't care for the Brown sauce they had on top. Maybe it was mole, but I usually like mole. If I got them, I'd ask for salsa and queso, on the side, and no sauce. read more

The mushroom quesadilla is so tasty I would honestly order it as my last meal before death. No joke. The food amount is obscene, like, to the point I feel almost naughty eating as much as I do. El Tarasco's is a typical Mexican restaurant. The restaurant is small and clean. You walk past the doors to the bathrooms to enter the restaurant which is a weird set up but is fine. My food has always been hot and correct. It may be a little bland depending on what you order. I usually stick with Vegetarian E, which comes with a bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and cheese quesadilla. It's hearty, filling, and mild. The chips and salsa are good but a bit bland. My one complaint is that in the summer it is often very warm inside. read more

Had dinner a couple of nights ago with a group of 7. We arrived late in the afternoon so had the whole place to ourselves and undivided attention from the server, who my the way was fantastic. We ate lots of chips and very good salsa, both mild and hot. I don't eat hot so the mild was great. Chips are not my favorite. They are a bit dense but still ok. I had what I always have the vegetarian dinner. It comes with a bean burrito, a cheese quesadilla and a cheese enchilada. All excellent. Rather bland but that is what I like. The cheese sauce on the enchilada is warm and oh so good. I use that sauce to dip my plain cheese quesadilla in. Margarita's were flowing/ On Thursday the original 12 oz.(either frozen or on the rocks) are two for $4.25. Others had individual tacos and the special which was a chicken burrito on Thursday. Very big plate of food and tasty. It is a small restaurant space but the servers are friendly and efficient. Prices good and food very good as well. read more

My Husband and I LOVE El Tarasco! We first started out going to the one on New Cut, but after moving to the East End of the city, we started going to the one in St. Matthews. Both are DELICIOUS! The chips are always warm and we can never get enough of the salsa. The food is always correct and doesn't take that long to come out to you. The servers are always very nice to us and make sure we have everything we need. Also, My husband usually orders a beer when we eat there, and I usually get a Peach daiquiri. When I order the smaller size, they always bring me the extra left over from making it as well, so you actually get more than what you order/pay for. If you order the larger size IT IS HUGE!!! We recommend any couple stopping for a nice dinner together to try the fajitas for two. We order it often, you get A LOT of food, more than enough for 2 people, and the price can not be beat! read more

I would visit this restaurant again. The staff were beyond friendly and excellent with refills. The food cake out very quickly once ordered. Their margaritas are very reasonably priced and delicious! Especially the frozen strawberry. Our food was excellent. My oldest daughter said "this is the best taco ever mom". And she is extremely picky. My husband and I both opted for the vegetarian combo. Not one complaint from either of us. The cheese they use is full of flavor. Their sauces compliment their dishes very well. The only thing I didn't quite love was their chips. They weren't the typical hot freshly fried chips with salsa would you normally recieve. They were a little thicker and not warm at all. But it's chips and salsa, so still delish. read more

Clean, friendly, edible yes. Good? No. I got the veggie fajita with literally only bell peppers, mushrooms and onions in it?? I was amazed the lack of other veggies and taste. The mushrooms were 100% canned. The veggies were under cooked and cut crazy. The food was literally just ok and the service was slow. The only reason I came here is because my dad wanted Mexican and I live off newcut. The el nopal across the street I've found a hair in my food 3 times in a row so don't go there either. read more

I'm not sure when all these people giving rave reviews went here but our service and food was some of the worst I've had to date. Their strawberry and raspberry margaritas taste like cough syrup. The only good thing about the dinner we had was the chorizo cheese dip. Which had to be re-ordered because he brought out the wrong thing the first time. Downfalls were the wait staff's failure to listen when ordering, runny burritos, in recognizable meat, and in attentiveness. Yep, I think that about sums it up. read more

Everything on our combination platter looked & tasted the same. Soooo bland & yuck, to include a long, white unidentified object in the chicken enchilada. Greetings. Last nite I ate supper here. I ordered Quesidilla Verde. It was in an open shell just barely grilled with shredded chicken inside that also had peppers and something else. No sauce or cheese covering. Talk about bland! It came with guacamole that maybe had sawdust added. Did not taste like real fresh guacamole. The meal deserved to be returned but I said nothing. $7.95. So then my friend and I go to the register to settle up and a six or seven year old girl checked us out my friend with credit card and I with cash.
