As a born and raised Houston Texan, I've ate at countless "Authentic Mexican" restaurants. I'll start off by saying the peanut hot sauce is great, and goes with all the menu items, the Birra quesadilla was better than most. However, my positives end there. This one, just like many others are a scam, the water is terrible, has been the 6 months I keep giving them a chance. The chips are stale and to thick. The fajitas were lacking meat. And worse of all, the tacos are 5 dollars and the size of my palm. This is 100% a scam, you can get far better and bigger tacos in majority of Louisville's Latino restaurants. "Just because it is a whole in the wall, doesn't always make it good" I will say the service was good, but so is the Jamaican in the cruse port. They all like your money. They have a social media influenced taco wall "Feed me tacos and call me pretty" Yet the tacos are the most disappointing item on the menu. This review covers two recent dining experiences. One previous dinner and lunch today. Dinner with a grandson early this week was delicious. So good I told my wife I wanted her to give them another try. Lunch today was average at best. The dinner included tamales that were delicious. However, today's lunch the tamales today were dry and tough. This restaurant has a real problem with consistent quality. Another problem, you have no idea how much you're going to be charged for an item. Yes, they do have menus with prices, but you may be charged a higher price. When I questioned one of my charges because it was higher than the menu, I was told yes, they raised the price. Here's a novel idea, use a pen or marker to change the menu price! I have a problem finding out an item's price is higher than I thought I was paying, AFTER I consumed it! Chips and salsa are $2.50, and if they bring you just a few chips and you ask for more, they charge another $2.50. I really, really want to love this place, but they make it difficult at times. read more

Great fresh ingredients and they really care if you are pleased with you order. I like to talk to business owners from time to time (looking for catering for work or just to learn about them). They were friendly but knew when to leave me alone and let me enjoy the meal too. There are a few places in Lousiville that I would say equal the authentic quality but some are over priced or do not feel as authentic as I would like. I knew I found a good place when I walked in the second time and it was filled with Latino workers on their lunch breaks and lots of spanish conversations that I mostly could not understand. :-) The woman working the counter jumped from spanish to english but was kind enough not to assume that I was a gringo that would just come in for a burrito. She took the time to ask me a few questions and realized I knew what I liked and was accustomed to Mexican food from Mexico and the Southwest US. She asked me where I had lived and then made some suggestions. This visit I had the deluxe tacos and the recommended pork tamales they made that morning. Both were very good and plentiful. Don't confuse a deluxe taco from a place like this to say Taco Bell. They are worlds apart and two along with the rice and beans make a full lunch with all the toppings correct Mexican cheese and fresh salsa on the side. This is not fancy fusion Mexican you'll find at Wild Rita's or Taco Punk. This authentic home cooking, well prepared and generously served. If you like to buy fresh tortillas for home, sauces or Mexican spices pick them up here for fresher and better quality than the grocery stores carry. Many of these same items are available at Taqueria's like La Rosita's in New Albany but if your out in this area this is the best place to go. The only negative might be that rustic and rural setting can feel like a whole in the wall and may intimidate some people. the Grocery area could use some fixing up, but it made me feel more like I'm in a familiar local small town taqueria you might find in Arizona or New Mexico. read more

This place is very good and delicious. I gave it 3 stars though and let me tell you why. I called ahead and ordered pick up and they told me it would take 10 minutes. So I actually drove and arrived when they said it would be done and waited in a line, so by this time they were destined to be finished and ready. But, they weren't. I had to order again because it was like they didn't even tell the cook to start the order, I waited another 15 minutes for my food to come out and be done. Overall, the food was amazing. It's not really a restaurant, it's just like a taco truck that's a building. There's a cute little farm place next to it, and they sell ice cream and milkshakes :) So I gave this place 3 stars for the timing. But 5 stars for the quality of the food! read more

Usually for the lunch specials, either the two steak tacos with rice and beans or sometimes they have the Chili Renello or the Pork Rinds and Steak lunch. Food is simple but very tasty and filling. Have gotten take out couple of times from the dinner menu and the steak was really tender and tasty. The place is not very welcoming but on the main drag in Charlestown and convenient to where I live so thats good. Charlestown has just a few restaurants so this is a good option to go to when one is in the mood for cheap but tasty Mexican food. read more

My wife and I had dinner here last Saturday night. While camping nearby, and with heavy rain coming down, dinner out seemed the more reasonable choice. With two Mexican restaurant choices in Charlestown, IN we opted for this one even though it looked a little 'iffy' due to its location. Once inside the lighting was bright and the tables seemed to be just randomly scattered throughout. We chose a four top table sort of to the rear. It was not readily clear if there would be a server or if the large window leading into the kitchen was an ordering window. Soon, though, a server appeared through a door in the corner of the room with menus and we were in business. She appeared young and probably new to the serving profession due to her lack of 'table-side' manner. She returned in a few minutes to take our order. I ordered the 'Guisado de Puerco', a spicy pork stew in green sauce with rice, pinto beans and tortillas. My wife opted for the Flautas, a plate of four, with rice, beans and tortillas. While beers were on the menu they did not have beer for whatever reason so we both ordered a Fresca. The server came by with our chips and salsa. The chips were warm and salty, and the salsa, clearly a local recipe, had a real nice flavor. As we waited for our food we took off the hunger edge with the chips and salsa and were able to look around to see the many genres of decor making this Mexican Restaurant the most eclectic one that I have ever been in. It ranged from Elvis music to the Beatles, to Firefighter memorabilia, to old Indiana license plates lining the walls to a female manikin dressed to the nines which greeted customers on the way in the door. So, finally the food arrived. We hoped that the longer than usual wait would produce authentic food made to order. They did not disappoint! Both dishes were plated beautifully and the food was excellent. The flavors were rich and the spice level was just right. We typically are not members of the 'Clean Plate Club' because there is usually so much food on the plate, but in the end both plates were empty. We had to refrain from indulging in the 'Pan de Tres Leches' but I know that that too would have been delicious. The cost was fair and I hit the tip jar with an appropriate amount. As we will be back in that area to camp again, we will likely eat dinner there after church on Saturday evening again, too. read more

The young male Mexican waiter was such a smart ass regarding me complaining about the food and initially refused to adjust the bill, since no food was eaten, but eventually he did with several smart remarks. Recently my son made a special trip to try the Mexican food here. I decided on the chile rellenos which were prepared just as I expected and were fresh and delicious. My son shared some of his meal with me and the meat was tender and delicious. The amount of food on both meals was ample with plenty of corn tortillas served on the side. The service was friendly and efficient. There were many other menu items I would love to try.
