El Taco Loco has solidified its place in my rotation of good eats thanks to their very solid pupusas. In fact, over my last couple of visits, I haven't ordered anything else -- and I'm not sure what it might take for me to do so. Definitely worth the indignity of having to navigate the inhuman conditions of Preston Highway to emerge with those babies. Worth noting that the restaurant itself is also perfectly nice as a sit-down place, although it's also clearly a popular spot to grab and go. They are always careful to separate the pupusas and curtido, and they offer several sauces as well. (I should start asking for extra curtido.) Really good experience here. I was up in the area for work with my boss who came down from Michigan. I know how abysmal the Mexican food in Michigan is and I wanted to show him how we do it here. I was impressed and he was blown away. We each got some tacos, him getting chicken and me getting lengua (my favorite! That I know I can't cook at home). I placed an order online. Got in my car to go pick it up. The restaurant received the order, 2 tacos de tinga, 1 taco de carne, and 1 torta. I know because they had it written down and showed me. When I arrived I received a text saying the order had been cancelled. I have to pay in store, I'll get a refund in 3-5 days. No big deal. I can wait a few minutes. I collect my food and go home. When I get home my order was wrong. They got the tacos right but gave me a tostada instead of a torta. I'm pretty mad at this point, so I call the restaurant to complain. The guy that answered didn't speak much English, which is fine. I was about to switch to Spanish and he hung up on me. One of the best little hole in the wall restaurants I've been . I went for the tacos as that's what I always decide to go for. But I am a huge fan of Menudo. Let me tell you that is is delicious! Made like mom makes it. It made me feel right at home. Menudo is just one of those comfort foods that I grew up as a little boy. It's one of those items you don't find on all Mexican restaurants and it's also an acquired taste. If you have never had menudo and are looking to get something delicious in your mouth hole. Then this is your place. Try it you won't be disappointed. Make sure to add the lemons and cilantro along with the onions it just makes it that much more delicious in your mouth hole. Ever since 2020 me and my bf have been coming here nonstop. After trying multiple taco locations around Louisville this is our favorite by a mile. Always amazing flavor and taste. We love their green sauce they give and their fresh guacamole is great too. Service is fast and fresh. I'll be perfectly honest here: I can't seem to find a favorite Mexican place here in Louisville. Living in California has really spoiled me. That being said, El Taco Loco is good, just not great. There were some things I liked and some things I could do without. It is a small place located in a strip mall off of Preston and they take both cash and cards. They have tacos, burritos, tortas, esquite, and even Mexican candy/snacks (ex. Durritos). My friend and I got an al Pastor burrito, add beans, esquite, carne Asana tacos, two drinks, flan, and tres leches cake. My burrito was huge and it was also pretty good. Adding beans was definitely a good idea. The burrito wasn't the best one I've ever had, but it was pretty decent and I would eat one again. The esquite was decent as well but the corn was dark and looked as though it had been sitting in water all day. The desserts were honestly some of the WORST desserts I've ever had. I'm not even sure how a dessert can be bad...but the flan wasn't sweet at all. The tres leches cake was DRY, which is the opposite of what it is supposed to be. I was honestly baffled. I probably won't be back to El Taco Loco. My search for great Mexican food continues. Onward! read more

Great food and even better value! My husband and I both ordered one sope and one gordita for lunch. They are around $3 each. The portions are generous and are served with two house salsas. Amazing tacos. Husband loved his chorizo burrito. The downside is I'm craving their tacos every day and that's just not sustainable. The pollo taco is really good and my favorite was the asada. I also had the pastor taco but the other two were better. It was still good though. I ordered over the phone for pickup and there was little bit of a language barrier (that's my fault. Alright... we have found it. I will now be comparing all other taquerias in Louisville to this place!! These are the most authentic tacos in Louisville. Next closest thing to the tacos you get from the mom and pop vendors in L.A. We got the asada, lengua, pastor, chicharron and one that was a combination of three meats (this was the best one!!). The tacos were freshly prepared with the standard toppings of cilantro, onion and lime wedges on the side. The salsa verde really kicks the asada tacos up a notch and the red salsa has a great smoky flavor. I cannot wait to come back here. This place will keep me sane until I can return to L.A.... YUM!!!
