I had a great experience at Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream in Dedham! The ice cream was delicious, but what really stood out was the customer service. The employee who helped me, I believe his name was Chris, was incredibly kind and welcoming. He was patient, friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure customers had a good experience. I stumbled upon Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream after a wine tasting and it did not disappoint! I went with the Brookie (brownie + cookie dough). It was both sweet and perfectly indulgent, exactly what you want from a late-night ice cream run. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. My only regret is that I had already snacked way too much before arriving, otherwise I definitely would've gone for a larger cup with more scoops. I'd just like to start off that if I was writing this review years ago I'd be giving Rons Gourmet Ice cream 5 stars. Sadly, our recent visit was underwhelming. To start, cleanliness is something they truly need to have their employees focus on. For a food establishment this was sad to see. While the flavor of my brownie sundae was enjoyable, I was disappointed to see that my portion was noticeably smaller from what I've received in the past. Additionally, the brownie appeared to have been taken out of the freezer and reheated in the microwave, which affected the overall quality. As far as the rest of my groups ice cream, it was good. If you read my investigative piece on the Dutch Udder Craft Ice Cream in Troy NY (and I highly recommend you do) you know they claim this title, despite having won the title in 2017. Also, not sure if Ron's serves Philly vanilla. Also, did not try the vanilla. Ron's ice- cream. Contrary to what a previous review from 2 years ago claims, I saw no signs of dead rats on the tables and a large icecream was not $30.99. I think that person might be schizophrenic. Rons Ice Cream is a lovely mom and pop shop with reasonable prices and a warm welcoming vibe. I had a mix soft serve with extra chocolate jimmies and it was so yummy and refreshing. No strange aftertaste just smooth creamy goodness. My husband had the cookie dough ice cream and really enjoyed it too. The shop was clean and inviting and the young ladies behind the counter were kind patient and very efficient even with a steady flow of customers. It is rare to find soft serve that tastes this good without that artificial flavor or texture so this was a real treat. We will definitely be back. I came on a hot weekday afternoon and got a regular frozen pudding and strawberry in a cup. I'm not sure what I expected from the frozen pudding, but I wasn't a fan of it. It was kind of a custard with different pieces of fruit in it. On the other hand, the strawberry was pretty good, creamy, and flavorful. It's a small place, but it was bustling with orders online and a few other walk-ins while we sat to eat our ice cream. The workers are young, kind, and hard-working picking up each tub to scoop your ice cream. Ron's is a family friendly homemade ice cream shop located in a downtown area of Dedham located minutes away from Legacy Place. The service was solid and ice cream was even better. They had over 20 flavors of ice cream to chose from as well as soft serve, milk shakes, and sundaes. I would highly recommend the Oreo cake batter as it is a fan favorite. The prices are close to pricey, with a kiddie being 4.50 and regular being 5.50. With that being said the portions are very generous. There is a large parking lot across the street which makes it very convenient and accessible to get to the store and out as well as be other shops in the area. Ron's has creamy ice cream and an easily accessible water cooler by the chocolate counter. I had 2 scoops for $3.50, and we relaxed amongst the five tables and chairs they have along the wall. When you revisit one of your favorite childhood places, you always walk in hoping that it will be as good as you remembered, and usually walk out disappointed. Luckily, Ron's was just as good, if not better, than my childhood memories of it. The inside has been redone since those ddays, but the ice cream is just as delicious as it was back then. Ron's ice cream was smooth and creamy, and the flavors of both the coffee madness and rum raisin were delicious. The rum raisin had a beautiful sweet cream base with a smooth rum taste. The coffee madness was a conglomerate of coffee ice cream, chocolate cookies, almonds, and everything blended together perfectly into a delicious bite. I got a regular size (2 scoops), and the scoops were bigger than average, so overall a good deal on price for the size and quality. One additional thing that I loved about Ron's is that they are very allergy conscious. Not only do they have signs reminding you to tell them if you have an allergy, the sign has all the flavors with nuts in them in a different color, to make it easier to tell if something has nuts in it or not. As someone whose partner has a nut allergy, I can tell you this saved us time in determining what was and wasn't safe for him (and me) to eat. I would highly recommend stopping by Ron's to anyone who is a fan of good quality ice cream, and I plan to stop back in again if I can before I head back home!! read more

I haven't been to Ron's in quite a while and stopped in recently for some ice cream. It's summertime, the best time of year for ice cream. This small spot in Dedham Square along High Street has always had great ice cream and great service in the past. I guess I haven't frequented it since there is never easy and efficient parking and it seems frequently busy with sometimes lines out the door (sort of like everything in Dedham.... it's just a busy, busy place!). I hadn't known about the full renovation they did.... this place is so much more inviting now with all new furniture and new tables. It's not dull and exhausting like it was in the years past. Employees are efficient and while the menu has grown the speed of service has stayed the same. Unfortunately, parking has not gotten any better and can really be a pain at certain times of the day. Overall, it's a great little shop that I hope to visit more frequently since it has so many more amenities than previously. Went there last night at 9:45 and ordered ice cream for the three of us. The store's closing time was 10 pm, but they were already flipping stools onto tables. At 10 pm, on the dot, someone came over and said "We're closed. You need to leave." Wow. Most food shops that close at a given time don't let people in after that time, but they give people already eating time to finish. What did we need - a whole 5 more minutes? Terrible customer service. (At least they didn't drag us out of the shop, so they're better than United.) Can't tell if the business only pays employees until closing time (no time allotment for clean-up and closing) or if the staff just wanted out quickly, customers be damned. read more

There were so many different flavors to choose from and all of it is made in house. I had a small and the portion was still big! You definitely get a good value for your dollar. I've got to admit something. I've never eaten ice cream here, but I have been to this Dedham Ice Cream Shop. The ice cream could be the nectar of the angels, but to follow up with what TinoX T. wrote, the line is just not worth it. I've gone here two or three times, trying to sample the local guy's gourmet selection, and, each time, I've found myself in a long immovable line reminiscent of a TV nightclub line. The line is frustrating as it's not out the door. It's no more than 7 or 8 people long, but it just doesn't move. Each time, I witnessed two workers, without any sense of urgency to speed up their service, and have left without ordering. There maybe some validity to these other Yelp reviews about the quality of the ice cream. I believe it must have a great local following who are willing to spend fifteen to thirty minutes in line, but I'm not. The owners and management must be satisfied by their receipts, although I've never seen managers in there, just a couple of high school kids. Dedham is kind of a weird town, given that when someone mentions it, all i can think of is the nasty stretches along the big roads and the chain restaurants and big-box stores. At the same time, every year i run the James Joyce Ramble 10k, and find there is a nice little town center and shaded, hilly, quiet streets removed from that. Mind you, the town center is neatly bisected by the potholed swath of Route 1, but nestled in there is Ron's Ice Cream. Which is an ice cream place and is thus inherently good. It's decent enough ice cream, even if what I had was a little bit on the gooey side, and had good sprinkles, liberally applied. It was packed and busy when i was there, which is probably also a good sign. And there's a nice bench outside to watch the bustle of the main streets (this is an important factor in choosing an ice cream purveyor, albeit one that maybe isn't always in their control). read more

If you ask anyone from the area where to get good ice cream they will most likely tell you Ron's. The ice cream here is probably some of the best I've ever had. A popular flavor seems to be the peanut butter explosion or their Oreo cake batter, which comes with chunks upon chunks of Oreo. My personal go-to is their ginger flavored ice cream that features pieces of crystalized ginger mixed into the ice cream (while I know that it isn't a popular flavor since ginger can be quite strong, I highly recommend it as it is a perfect combination of the strong, slightly spicy ginger taste with the sweet cream of the ice cream batter). The only downside to Ron's is that they seem to only be open during late spring and the summer months. My friends and I have sadly had to go to JP Licks instead (located in Legacy place) to get overpriced, sub-par ice cream during the fall and winter. Ron's is reasonably priced for the amount of ice cream that you get: a kiddie at JP Licks is around $3, which ends up being like a shot of ice cream, while the kiddie at Ron's is the size of a standard small cup and around the same price. Ron's is family friendly and also has a second location in Hyde Park that is attached to a small bowling alley. The Hyde Park venue is open during the winter months so you can get the family out of the house to grab some quality ice cream and play a round of bowling too! read more
