This is a great place for a casual breakfast. Somehow, I find myself craving their double cappuccino served in oversized, big blue cups. I stopped by la Madeleine on a Saturday afternoon. I have been to many locations over the years but this was my first time checking out this restaurant in El Paso. They have a large lot which was busy but I found a spot. Ambiance (3/5): la Madeleine is a semi-casual French restaurant. The decor is rustic. And like most chains, it's pretty big. While I've dined in before, this was grab-and-go this time around. Service (2.5/5): Rather than dining in, I ordered a pastry from the counter. Many of their pastries were incorrectly labeled. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she didn't say anything. You would expect she would apologize or say they would fix it soon. Nada. It also took her around five minutes to take my order which is super slow for counter service. Drinks (N/A): None for me on this visit. Food (3/5): One of the nice things about la Madeleine is that they have complimentary bread, butter, and jam. Since I was in a hurry, I just ordered a slice of King Cake. With Mardi Gras recently happened, they were selling this colorful, seasonal item. It was done well though some cream cheese icing inside would have taken things to the next level. However, I can't complain because it was free. If you're part of their rewards program, you get a free pastry or dessert of your choice every year for your birthday. They forgot the baguette that was supposed to come with it. Barely enough for four people. Price is way too high for what you get. The Caesar salad had a bunch of bad romaine lettuce - green molding and browning lettuce. I'd be embarrassed to serve a salad like that. How do these places stay in business? Food was good, but service was lacking. In the age of Covid, takeout service and how it is handled is a big deal. We ordered seven items for takeout and the process was smooth initially. I sent my husband to pick up and he simply had to call when he arrived and they brought the food out. Well, some of the food. My husband arrived home and they had forgotten to give us four of the seven items we ordered. We called and let them know the mistake and they were completely unapologetic and said we could come by and pick up the rest. My husband had to go all the way back and when they brought out the food, they again did not apologize or offer any kind of compensation or explanation for the extreme inconvenience. Rant over. That being said, I really enjoyed the pesto pasta and the croque monsieur. The tarts were also particularly good. I wasn't a huge fan of the creme brule because I prefer it with the glassy, crunchy top, which their version is lacking. The French toast was also extremely overcooked and crunchy. Lovely scenery, but when i walked in, i was not unwelcome into the restaurant. I waited for a menu for about 5 minutes to be given to me. After going over the menu, the cashier was not really friendly to me but she was super nice my guy friend. There were no suggestions given after we told the cashier it was our first time eating there. We order an omelettes with side of bacon and sausage, which the sides of pork were really good and the only best part of the meal but the omelette i received was cold and the cheese was not melted, cold cheese with a warm omelette really did not go well together. I must have died and gone to dessert heaven when my little pudgie toes stepped in to this gem of a place, one cold sunday morning. Ordering was easy you step into the line to order and you pick where you want to sit. Easy peasy. I quickly warmed up with a delicious caramel macchiato and ordered the croquet madame and waffle and strawberries for my little one. And a side of fruit tart that was indeed heaven on earth. The only downside that I can mention was that my son's waffle was cold. The staff in the front register were not particularly friendly, nor rude either. The gentleman that brought in our food was super awesome. I appreciated his help by offering to bring me some utensils because it was all the way in the back of the restaurant and I was having some difficulty with my son. So I appreciate him! Visiting from Denver. We passed by and decided to treat ourselves to some French patisseries and coffee. The expectation was high. The restaurant is in an upscale area surrendered by other upscale business. The inside of the place is clean and elegant. But the downside was the customer service. None smiling, they didn't have "the joie de vivre". The irony is that there are two signed posted at the door entrance that says "Bonjour" Was that the only greeting we were supposed to receive as we entered the place? We stopped by the sing that say "line starts here" and the hostess, Monserrat, just yelled "the menus are over there". No welcome, no good afternoon, no nothing. As first time guests we awaited for instructions until I decided to stop by the patisseries display and told the hostess that we wanted some food and drinks and to dine in. She asked "are you ready?" So moved on to order our food. She gave us some cups, told me the total of the order and got the payment. And gave us a wooden piece that indicated the letter G for our order. Nothing else was said. So we figured it's time to take a seat, let's wait and we are seated. She brought my cappuccino and left. So I came back to her post and asked where to get the other drinks and then she pointed to the back of the store. We went then to the back and waited for 15 mins for the decaf coffee to be brought out. Food is good, as expected in any other French cafeteria. L'hôtesse grossière a gâché le moment. One thing to notice is that, when you ordered you're asked for a tip. How you're gonna put a tip when you don't know how the service is going to be? No reason for asking for a tip when the rude personnel just do the bare minimum and no hospitality was provided at all. They get paid to do the bare minimum. And that's all they do. The pastries are presented in a very appetizing way so we ordered three: the lemon tart, the mini fruit tart, and the eclair. I must say, all were extremely disappointing. I came here because I was craving a good dessert, and instead got bland flavors with too much sugar that wasn't worth the calories. Very tasteless, just too sweet without anything to balance it out. Even on my ticket it says "NoChz". And the pesto side salad was absolutely disgusting. I took one bite and spit it out. Not worth the $9 at all. The restaurant looked very clean. I stood in front of the take-out register for 3 mins before the manager on duty was called by another manager who was off duty to turn around because he had customers (there was someone behind me as well). Even tho the manager had his back turned to the register, a lot of other employees saw me standing there and didn't acknowledge my existence or let the manager know that I was there. Received a flyer in the mail and was excited to try a new place. I also received flyers for Burger King, Popeyes, KFC, Albertsons. I should have gone to the grocery store. The goat cheese strawberry chicken salad didn't have any goat cheese. The onion soup in the picture was the second one. There were 3 pieces of grated cheese unmelted on the first soup. The waiter was clueless when we asked what it was and why the cheese wasn't melted. The second soup had about 6 pieces of cheese and they were barely put under the salamander (broiler for non cooking people.) If you're looking for food prepared like Mexican food you'll be thrilled, otherwise you'll be disappointed. I spoke with the manager and he said he would talk to the like cook and the wait staff. In my opinion if a cook can't make French onion soup in a French restaurant and a waiter can't understand what is wrong the place should close or fire all of their employees. This is a chain restaurant so it's not rocket science it's just laziness and not caring. Letting this food leave the kitchen speaks volumes about quality, caring, and having the wrong focus. When they brought the right one it was not correctly cooked, see picture it was pretty much raw. I've been to other La Madeleine's before and they've always been reliable as a great study place and this one is no exception. I do however wish that they would turn down the heat sometimes when the fireplace is running. Ambiance - Fireplace, pictures on the wall, plenty of seating and French influence everywhere. It's nice and bright with lots of natural sunlight. Service - You order at the counter, but the workers have been nothing but courteous and quick with picking up dishes. Food: I've had a variety of things here and I've never been particularly impressed. I'm here more for the study spot more than anything. Pricing - I think the food and pastries here are a bit overpriced, but the pastries are delicious. With the app though, you are able to get discounts and newsletters if any future events such as free food. Overall, this is just another La Madeleine chain and I've never been really drawn to their food. But it is a great study spot that I've frequented many times. La Madeline, you did it again. So happy there's now a location on the Westside. I see many more breakfasts here in my future. I was surprised to find that their menu differs slightly... I like it though. This location feels a tad smaller than the other one, but it could still easily accommodate quite a few people. Same rustic, French country feel. I ordered the Potato Galette with bacon on the side and then I threw in a croissant... at that point I think there was actually a menu item that included all of that with some other things, but I'd already gone too far. All of it was delicious and of course I carb-o-loaded with some of their complimentary breads with jams. Service was good. The pricing was fine. Absolutely will be back again! read more

When the manager is not present most of the staff here is unfriendly and make it a point to let you know they could care less. THIS Location receives 3 stars simply for poor customer service on the managers part. I asked for my son's Turkey sandwich meal to have strawberries with the romanoff sauce and apparently just giving a tsp of it and or charging a small up-charge was unmanageable. Instead I was charged $2 for us to give 5 sliced strawberries swimming in a bowl of it. A meal that was small and petite was $10 simply because the manager couldn't just be reasonable on the request. Usually, this not the case and the staff previous are more customer service comparable. 3/28/209 I am updating my review to acknowledge the manager personally reaching out to me to apologize as she was new and still learning. Whatever happened to La Madeleine of yesteryear? I think it is gone for good; in reviewing most of the restaurants ratings in general throughout the big hubs in Texas you see ratings barely hitting 3 stars; the only exception I will note is the Mockingbird Ln. location in Dallas, which is the original location and to which I have been to multiple times since 1995; I have not been to El Paso in over two decades and back then places like this did not exist; a few months ago was delighted to see this location and with no further due I visited the establishment. At the ordering site there was a new employee, a trainee, and she was kind and helpful; can't say the same about her trainer as she showed a very arrogant persona. Down to the details...the Sacher Torte was a bit raw for my palate and when I complained, the staff just looked at me like if I was an alien; just to clarify, the body of the torte is not supposed to be "fudgy" and tasting as raw flour; once the cake is baked, thoroughly it is sliced in half and filled with apricot preserves, not raspberry as at this place. If you are borrowing a recipe keep it as original as possible and of course to say the least, don't serve it "raw" Furthermore, Sacher Torte is originally from Wien, Austria, not France, and the original torte can still be savored and purchased from the Sacher Hotel in Vienna. Ordered some croissants and pain au chocolat, a full dozen to go and a couple to eat there; when served both pieces where "cold"; for the most part croissants are warmed up a little so if you choose to add something say butter it gets to melt a little. Wrapping up the visit bought some sourdough bread to go and tipped the staff handsomely and departed the place; on arriving to my destination discovered that my sourdough loaf was missing :( and decided to make the trip back to the establishment to retrieve my loaf. At no point in time during my stay at the establishment and complains did the manager or staff offer an apology or a substitute product, etc. And no, guest services at La Madeleine I am not contacting lamadeleinecomments.com, so please don't waste your time; what I had to say was already said and there's no going back. I am visiting my boyfriend's family and we decided to go here because they said it was good. I am sad to say that I am very disappointed at the service here. My boyfriend and his brother went to pick up our order and we ordered 2 iced coffees with almond milk and 7 croissants. What we received was 6 croissants only and no coffees. The staff had informed us that they had no almond milk to make our coffee they actually didn't have anything needed to make our coffees. Service is mostly good, there is one server/cashier that is slow and either ignores what you are saying/asking or does not understand, not sure which it is or which is worse.
