    Lox Bagel

Best bagel sandwiches in town if you are willing to spend. I get the lox sandwich which is perfect proportioned with each ingredient. Great place to stop on the way down to capitola beach. There is a few small tables inside for seating and a bench outside. There is a coffee stand that serves drinks inside as well. I haven't tried the pizza but the bagels are super yummy. I dream of that lox sandwich.

A tiny little coffee shop in the heart of Capitola, serving inventive lattes and homemade bagels. Coming from the East Coast, these were not the big chewy bagels I'm used to, but they were nevertheless delicious. I ordered the farmers market bagel, which was a wonderful combination of herbed cream cheese, pickled onions, radishes, cucumbers, and pea shoots - Delicious! I also had a latte that was outstanding. Service was friendly and efficient, despite the place being very busy. Street parking.

I ordered a Sunday morning breakfast bagel from La Marea. Always appreciate when a restaurant is on DoorDash so it can be delivered to my lazy ass. Bagel connoisseur here. I've got my bona fides. These bagels are outstanding! Good bite to the texture, tang from the sourdough, delicate air bubbles, great flavor. Egg and cheese sandwich was nicely toasted with cheese crisped at the edges, soft egg frittata, yum. Everything that came in the order was of super quality, even matcha latte tasted very refined. Bravo!!

    Breakfast bagel on everything

Excellent little cafe with bagel sandwiches and coffee tucked away from the main downtown Capitola strip. They have Syllable Coffee on sight with coffee and espresso drinks- I thought my cappuccino was excellent, and definitely on par with all the other great coffee in this are (Cat & Cloud, Verve , 11th hour etc). My husband enjoyed his drip as well, but does prefer Cat & Cloud for his coffee. So let me just preface this with I am not a bagel person. I'm one of those people that avoids carbs unless it's truly worth it, and this was worth it! The bagels here are not only super fresh, but they are just different. I'd describe the interior like a denser foccacia bread, but the exterior is thick and crisp. We got one cinnamon raisin with cream cheese, and also a breakfast bagel with everything bagel. Both were amazing. The breakfast bagel comes with a frittata egg, and thin layer of avocado. they serve pizza for lunch as well, and I'd bet the dough is amazing if the bagels were that amazing. Interior is super super narrow and small, able to seat maybe 2-3 small groups.

Such a cute place! I came here on a Saturday morning with my family when visiting Capitola. We tried the Persian Scone, Breakfast Bagel with Ham, Scandi, as well as a regular bagel with herbed cream cheese. My personal favorite was the scone and the breakfast bagel. Definitely a great place to to start the morning!

What a quaint little cafe. I'd been meaning to stop in and finally did on a Sunday morning. To my surprise, they offered gluten-free bagels, and I ordered a breakfast sandwich with one. The sweet woman at the register said they also offer gluten-free pizza, too! I'll look forward to trying that one day. The breakfast sandwich was loaded with goodness (I added ham and avocado smash) and SO delectable. It was also quite filling. I would absolutely recommend stopping by.

When we walked in I told my wife, "What a cute little place." The lady from the couple who came in a few minutes after us said exactly the same thing, "What a cute little place." We had caraway, everything and plain bagels - 2 with smoked salmon - and these were no ordinary bagels-by-the-dozen from a big chain bakery. These bagels were charmingly misshapen, each unique and made-with-love presumably in a small-batch artisanal kitchen by people who care, and I'm guessing they may have been house-made on the premises (speculation on my part - at least they tasted like they were). So good. The cream cheese was fabulous too - definitely multiple steps up from a Philadelphia tub. My wife also enjoyed her matcha drink. The cost for the food, drink, tax and tip was a lot for bagels. But so worth it. Cute little place.

    Full pie - Special

Great food and kind people working the shop. It's small inside but definitely has a nice atmosphere.

Amazing bagels! Crisp and flavorful...seek out this adorable little spot! I highly recommend you visit.

I don't get bagels locally because, well, just because. I happily ordered us coffee and bagels. Now, bear in mind, we roast our own coffee, so to us, the coffee was on the "good" side of Ok. The bagels, on the other hand, were delicious! And boy, do they pack on the cream cheese (maybe enough for 3 bagels depending on one's preference)! Service was friendly and fast. And all the people coming and going were very pleasant - there were plenty of them. The sitting area outside next to the road is pretty small (next to a dumpster, I think), and my guy was having some mobility challenges (on crutches, etc.). Folks in the neighboring table were so kind and accommodating, voluntarily standing up so that he could maneuver into a seat. We went back the following week (yes, another medical appt), and this time they were out of the bagels we wanted, so note to self... get there early if you want a favorite bagel. We will definitely be back to Firefly for the bagels! Have I said "bagels" enough times already?

Sandwiches are made in a timely manner. And everything is good! This time I tried the Big Dipper and loved it. I probably could've split it with someone if I got a side, it had some size to it and was well portioned with meat, cheese and fresh veggies. Food: 5 stars. Service: 3 stars…read more The food was excellent and made the visit worthwhile. The staff, however, came across as a bit cold and unfriendly. I get that it's beach time and things move at a different pace, but being a little nicer to customers and visitors would make a big difference. Hopefully next time the service will be as good as the food. EDITED - Saturday, June 20, 2026 I'm updating my review after reading the owner's response. First, I want to clarify that the response appears to be a copy-and-paste message aimed at people leaving negative reviews. If you had actually read my original review, you would have noticed that I never complained about the food, the wait time, prices, staffing, or anything related to the quality of the business itself. In fact, I enjoyed the food and had no issue waiting. I visited on a Thursday, and the café wasn't packed. The owner was clearly working hard, and I respect that. However, when I walked in and said hello, I was completely ignored. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no sense that my business was appreciated. That was the only reason I left a 3-star review in the first place. The response talks about staffing shortages, minimum wage, food costs, and the challenges of running a small business. I understand all of that. Running a business is difficult. But those challenges don't really address the point I was making. A simple "Hi," "Welcome," or even a quick smile costs nothing and goes a long way. I also don't think customers should be made to feel responsible for business challenges such as labor costs or rent. Those are realities of ownership that every business owner has to navigate. That said, after thinking about it, I'm changing my review from 3 stars to 5 stars because the food was genuinely good, and I do support small businesses. My hope is simply that future customers are greeted with a little more warmth and appreciation when they walk through the door. One final thought: when someone leaves a critical review, it may be worth responding directly to their experience rather than posting a generic response. Sometimes there's valuable feedback hidden inside reviews that aren't really about the food at all. I wish you and your business success, and I genuinely hope you continue serving great food for years to come.
